Chapter 138 - Successor (4)
Chapter 138
Successor (4)
“Rodwell sent you, didn’t he? Nice to see you.”
Redin waved and smiled, and the man in the knight’s armor mouth twitched.
He could fully understand the look on his face.
His mind must be reeling, like he’d been hit hard in the back of the head.
“What? This isn’t the picture you had in mind?”
“……Funny. Was it all an act?”
The way he forced Rebecca to stay with the troops while she was injured, the way he feigned fainting after taking out a boss-level demon.
It was all done to draw him in.
“Yep.”
“..Are you confident in your skills?”
The grimacing assassin licked his lips with his tongue, rolled his eyes, and then, with a surge of killing intent, drew the sword at his waist.
The entire atmosphere changed.
Gone was the panic, replaced by an intense determination to kill him and Rebecca.
‘Hoh.’
Redin thought that since Rodwell handpicked him and sent him here, he couldn’t be any ordinary bastard.
Pushing Rebecca back, he stepped forward.
Redin pulled out his sword, Moonlight, and took a stance to confront the man.
Their eyes met.
For a brief moment, silence hung in the air as they sized each other up, each attempting to discern the thoughts reflected in the other’s eyes.
His thoughts were clear in his eyes.”
*Whoosh*
The assassin swiftly leaped and fled out of the tent. Redin summoned a shadow minion to follow the assassin’s trail.
Turning to Rebecca with his shadow alter ego tailing behind in pursuit, Redin spoke.
“I’ll take him, you take the field and command the troops. Any moment now, the Sinister will make a move.”
“Got it.”
He watched Rebecca move towards the cliff, using Shadow Shift. The landscape around him changed, revealing an assassin up ahead.
He swung his sword at the man.
The aura blade shot out, sending a half-moon shape of blue mana flying.
*Swooosh!*
Sensing danger, the assassin turned and brandished his sword. His sword produced a crimson aura blade.
*Skkrrr!*
The man blocked the aura blade he sent out. Grinding his teeth, he sliced it in half and launched himself backwards.
A crimson aura blade unfolded before Redin. He wielded his sword to fend off the attack. As the auras clashed, they created a shockwave.
*Booom*!
*Baaaaaaam!!*
They exchanged blows, assessing each other’s skill.
*Clang!*
*Skkkrrrr!!*
His opponent’s level was definitely high.
He was definitely good because Rodwell had entrusted him with the job.
It felt like neither of them had exerted all their full power.
Redin sensed that his opponent was also assessing the situation.
He wondered who it was.
In the game, I had never seen this face before. There was nothing distinctive about their swordsmanship either.
*Clang!*
With a final exchange of swords, he closed the distance. The assassin retreated into the forest and disappeared from sight.
“You’re wasting your time.”
He pushed his senses to the extreme to locate his opponent. At the same time, Redin used Ghost Walk to cover his tracks and advance on his opponent.
The assassin realized that he had disappeared.
Panicked, the assassin looked around, trying to locate Redin. Slowly, he moved behind the man and raised his sword.
*Swish*
Redin slashed at his opponent.
The assassin is cut in half.
It felt different than a kill.
Redin could feel the assassin behind him.
A short distance away.
When Redin turned around to look behind him, the assassin was smirking. As he looked at Redin, he grinned widely, then let out a hollow laugh.
“Were you a Special 7th Division member?”
“What?”
“That’s the ghost walk, the one Harris uses.”
Someone who knew Burning Hell.
He even knew Harris’s name, the man who had personally taught him the [Ghost Walk] when he was a member of the Special Task Force 7th Division.
The odds were good that it was a traitor.
There were many who had betrayed Burning Hell, so it was hard to pinpoint a specific one, but since he had mentioned the Special 7th Division.
There was one name that came to mind.
A traitor to the Special 7th Division that Harris had mentioned during their training.
Han.
A former member of the Arrest Squad, Han was promoted to Special Task Force 7th Division and sold his senior to a criminal organization while on a mission.
The woman Harris loved.
After that, Harris no longer trusted the Special Unit members coming from the Arrest Unit and worked to create a new recruit training program to fill the manpower shortage.
‘I really want to catch that guy.’
Recalling Harris’s words, which held so much emotion, Redin straightened up.
“So you’re that guy? The scumbag who sold out his colleagues, Han.”
“Hoo. You even know my name?”
“Harris told me.”
Han grinned, then suddenly furrowed his brow. He seemed to ponder something intently, his eyes quivering slightly.
“You…”
Han’s pupils widened.
He looked at him and pointed a finger.
“Are you Redin?”
It wasn’t hard for him to figure out the truth of his identity. With his open relationship with Harris, it was only natural that he’d be able to figure it out.
There were three new members of the Special Task Force 7th Division.
One was Rebecca, the other was Heather, who had learned magic. And the other was him, so unless he was an idiot, he was bound to know.
“I’m honored. You know my name.”
“How are you alive? I thought you were dead…….”
“We’ll talk about that when we get to Burning Hell.”
Originally, Redin was going to kill him.
But for the sake of the seniors who helped him fit into this world and survive as a prison guard.
It was right to capture the man.
*Whoosh!*
He lunged at the wretch, mana rising. The hapless Han, unable to withstand the force of the blow, was thrown backwards.
Redin immediately closed in on Han.
Han swung his sword at him.
“Damn it!”
A crimson aura blade appeared, but Redin’s aura blade was more powerful. Slicing the red aura blade in half, he cut off one of Han’s arms.
“Arrrgghhh!”
He didn’t show anything during the combat, so Redin thought he might be hiding something. Turns out, Han was just relying on his existing skills.
Clenching his fist, he punched Han in the face.
*Smack!*
Knocking him out cold in an instant.
Redin pulled a pair of handcuffs from his subspace pouch and cuffed him to his legs.
Using Shadow Lord mode, he created a dragon made of shadows and took to the skies, carrying the bastard with him.
Heading toward Burning Hell.
He briefly surveyed the battlefield.
The first line of defense had been broken by a boss-level demon, and an army of demons was closing in.
Rebecca was in the center of it all.
As her sword felled the boss-level demon, once again the forces of the Adrian Kingdom were driving back the demon horde.
“Good work.”
There won’t be any more battles for the rest of the day.
An order he gave the Sinister.
Once the first line of defense is broken, Redin instructed him to take a day to rest and reorganize the demonic legions before pushing back into the first line of defense.
Nevertheless, he left one of his shadow alter egos behind, just in case, and turned his attention towards Burning Hell.

The Shadow Dragon was fast.
After what felt like an acceptable amount of time.
In the distance, Redin could see the island where Cerberus’s main camp was located. He deactivated the Shadow Lord mode and the Shadow Dragon disappeared.
He felt buoyant and used his [Fairy Wings].
Grabbing Han by the scruff of his neck, he descended to the island and landed on the roof of the building that housed Daylon’s office.
With a light landing, he heightened his senses.
Redin heard familiar voices from the room directly below.
The captain and vice-captain of the Special Task Force.
Daylon and Riena.
They were discussing the training of the new recruits. Listening to their conversation for a moment, Redin made sure no one was approaching nearby before making his move.
Walking down to the window.
He could see Daylon and Riena.
*Knock* *Knock*
Knocking on the window, their eyes turned to him. When they saw his face, they jumped up in surprise and opened the window for him.
“Redin?”
Though he had met Daylon before.
Vice-Captain Riena, on the other hand, it had been a long time since I last saw her.
Judging by the fact that she wasn’t crying, she must have heard the story from Daylon.
“It’s been a long time, Vice-Captain.”
“How are you?”
“Good.”
He stepped inside the window and tossed Han to one side. Their gazes locked on Han’s for a moment, and as they recognized him, they both said nothing, as if time had stopped.
And simultaneously they expressed their anger.
“Haan?”
“Han?”
“I stumbled across him during this mission, and I remembered something Harris told me about him before, so I brought him in myself.”
Both of them appeared angry, but they were trying to suppress their anger. The one who first managed to control his emotions was Daylon.
“Thanks.”
“No need.”
“But how did you catch this guy?”
“I got lucky.”
Daylon knew what he had been planning, so Redin gave a brief explanation. That it was Han who had come to assassinate Rebecca.
“Ha… I never imagined we would catch him like this. Still, now that we have him, there’s a sense of relief in a corner of my heart.”
“There’s one more thing I need to tell you.”
“What is it?”
“This guy is part of the Darkness Seven, and I’m pretty sure he was acting directly under orders from Rodwell, the leader of the Darkness Seven. He’s probably going to spit out quite a bit of information, if we can get him to talk.”
Daylon put a hand on Riena’s shoulder.
Riena, go to Burning Hello and summon the chief interrogator. Let’s conduct the interrogation right here, in front of everyone.
“Okay.”
Riena looked up at Redin, thanked him profusely, and left the room to go to Burning Hell.
“You should stay and listen.”
“I’d love to, but I have some things I need to go back and finish up.”
“Rebecca?”
“That too.”
Redin glanced at Han, then used some mana to block the sound from traveling out.
“I’m thinking of hitting Rodwell.”
“Rodwell?”
“During this mission, I found out that Rodwell has been in contact with the Demon God Church.”
“Demon Church….”
“Do you know Henry Baskervan, who is being held in the underground prison?”
“He’s the Head of Brassel.”
“I’ve uncovered information that Rodwell and the Demon Church were connected to his arrest.”
“Rodwell and the Demon Church are in league?”
Daylon asked, furrowing his brow, then looking at him.
“If they’re in this together, does that mean…… the establishment of the Oberg Empire was also the work of the Demon Church?”
“I don’t have any solid evidence, but that’s what I’m inclined to think.”
“The Oberg Empire may have been created by a collection of criminal organizations, but they were technically still part of the Empire.”
“……”
“So, while it was plausible that they started war against the six kingdoms, it appears that the Demon Church created the Oberg Empire to further their cause?”
“Exactly, using a criminal organization.”
“Fuck.”
Daylon ran a hand through his hair.
“I need proof of all this, or no one will be convinced.”
“That’s why I’m going to hit Rodwell myself and get some hard evidence.”
“By yourself?”
“If we do it together, Rodwell might notice and escape.”
“Do you think you can do it?”
“Yes.”
Daylon nodded, giving Redin a trusting gaze.
“When do you plan to make your move?”
“As soon as I catch the spy within the Adrian kingdom, I’m going to go straight to where Rodwell is.”
