Chapter 117: Welcome To Waifuria! (Part 2)
"Welcome to the Land of Waifuria!"
"..."
"..."
"..."
Complete silence descended over the square.
Not the respectful kind of silence that follows a profound announcement.
The confused, "what did he just say" kind of silence.
"W-Waifuria?" one of the warriors repeated hesitantly, her cat ears twitching with confusion. "What does that mean?"
"Is that a word from Earth?" another asked, genuinely puzzled.
"It sounds... nice?" a third offered uncertainly. "But what does it signify?"
Multiple people exchanged bewildered glances, clearly trying to parse the unfamiliar term.
"..."
Meanwhile, Luna's eyes narrowed suspiciously as she looked at Nero's proud grin…
Somehow, she could sense a foreboding feeling about something.
And that grin from this "master" of hers did not help at all.
On the other side, the six former wives whispered among themselves:
"Do you know what that means?"
"No idea..."
"I think I kinda heard it…? Wasn't it like a term from anime of some sort?"
"I guess…?"
"Yeah, I think I've heard it too…"
"... Aurelia?"
All eyes gradually turned to Aurelia, who had gone completely still.
The First Star Valkyrie's face had taken on a distinct red tint, her golden eyes widening slightly as realization dawned.
"Aurelia?" Nero called out with a grin, clearly enjoying this. "Care to explain to everyone what 'Waifuria' means?"
"..."
The angel's wings twitched involuntarily, a rare sign of her composure cracking.
"I... that is…!"
"Come on, Aury," Nero encouraged with obvious amusement. "You've been with me long enough. You know what a 'waifu' is."
And indeed, throughout their journey, she has heard him interact with the trio before saying things that were considered "wisdom" (cultured) according to her Lord Nero.
"..."
Every single person in the square immediately focused on Aurelia with laser-like intensity.
The divine warrior looked like she desperately wanted the ground to swallow her whole, but her sense of duty wouldn't let her stay silent when directly asked.
"A... a waifu," she began slowly, her voice barely above a whisper, "is a term Lord Nero has used occasionally. From what I understand, it refers to... a woman one holds romantic affection for. A beloved. A... a wife, essentially."
"A WIFE?!"
The explosion of reactions was instantaneous.
"W-W-WIFE?!"
"He just named the land after WIVES?!"
"Waifuria... Land of Wives?!"
"MASTER NERO?!"
Faces turned various shades of red across the entire assembly.
Some warriors dropped their cups entirely.
A few craftswomen covered their faces with their hands.
One particularly shy summoned literally squeaked and hid behind a nearby pillar.
It was a truly comical scene for anyone witnessing it.
… But it could only emphasize how shocked they were at the meaning of such a foreign word.
"So when he says Waifuria..." a scholar said slowly, processing the implications, "he's declaring that this land is..."
"The Land of his Wives," another finished, her face crimson.
"THAT'S SO BOLD!" someone shouted from the back.
"H-He just proclaimed all of us as his...?!"
"I can't believe he said that with a straight face!"
"Master Nero is so shameless!"
Luna's face had progressed through several colors, finally settling on a bright red that clashed terribly with her pink hair.
"YOU–!" She shot to her feet, pointing an accusatory finger at Nero with trembling indignation. "You just–you can't just– WIVES?! You're proclaiming everyone here as your WIVES?!"
Her voice reached a pitch that probably shouldn't have been possible.
"That's the most shameless, audacious, completely inappropriate–! How can you just stand there and declare an entire LAND after the concept of wives?! Have you no shame?! No–!"
"Well," Nero interrupted calmly, completely unfazed by Luna's meltdown or the scrutiny of 30+ flustered women, "technically speaking, you're all categorized as 'waifus' in my summoning system. That's literally what the system calls you."
He shrugged with perfect nonchalance.
"I'm just being honest about what this place represents. A land where my summoned waifus live. Waifuria. It's logical when you think about it."
"LOGICAL?!" It is the first time Nero heard her shrieking. "There's nothing logical about–!"
"BWAHAHAHA!"
Helya's booming laugh cut through her voice amidst the chaos brought by such an outrageous naming from Nero.
The white tiger beastwoman slapped her knee with such force it probably left a bruise, her amber eyes gleaming with absolute delight.
"THAT'S OUR MASTER NERO! So bold! So shameless! So completely honest!" She raised her cup high, grinning from ear to ear. "I love it! No pretense, no dancing around the truth! Just pure, unfiltered declaration!"
She stood on her chair, projecting her voice across the entire square.
"TO THE BIRTH OF WAIFURIA! THE LAND WHERE WE'RE ALL MASTER NERO'S WAIFUS!"
"TO WAIFURIA!" several of the bolder warriors immediately echoed, raising their own cups despite their red faces.
"TO WAIFURIA!" more voices joined in, the infectious energy spreading.
"If we're his waifus, then so be it!" one warrior declared with surprising boldness. "Better to be honest about it!"
"At least he's straightforward!" another added with a laugh.
"TO WAIFURIA! TO MASTER NERO!"
The chant began building momentum, alcohol and enthusiasm combining into a crescendo of acceptance.
"TO WAIFURIA!"
"TO WAIFURIA!"
"TO WAIFURIA!"
Cups were raised throughout the square, the name that had seemed so shocking moments ago now being shouted with genuine enthusiasm.
Even some of the shy waifus found themselves caught up in the moment, their embarrassment giving way to something like proud acceptance.
"... I can't believe this!"
Luna stood frozen in the center of the chaos, her pointing finger still extended toward Nero, her face still red, her expression was pure of disbelief at these people.
The chanting continued around her, getting louder with each repetition.
"TO WAIFURIA! TO WAIFURIA! TO WAIFURIA!"
"This... this is…!" she stammered, her refined composure completely shattered as her body trembled.
"Haaahhh…"
… Finally, she let her arm drop with a defeated sigh, bringing her other hand up to pinch the bridge of her nose as if suffering from an intense headache.
"... I'm surrounded by shameless people," she muttered powerlessly… it's as if she was faced with the most troublesome and tiresome bunch ever.
"Completely shameless. All of you. This is MY island, MY research facility, and now it's called... Waifuria..."
The last word came out as almost a whimper.
… It almost looks pitiful.
Felt approached hesitantly, placing a gentle hand on Luna's shoulder in silent consolation.
"There, there, Ms. Luna..."
"My elegant, sophisticated sanctuary... named Waifuria... I'll never live this down…"
Luna grumbled something as if she still cannot process what just happened and how did it end up here…
Meanwhile, the celebration had evolved into something even more enthusiastic than before.
"WAIFURIA! WAIFURIA! WAIFURIA!"
The chant became a rhythm that people started clapping along to.
Aurelia had buried her face in her hands, her wings wrapped around herself like she wanted to disappear.
"I explained it," she murmured to herself. "They asked and I explained it. This is not my fault. This is not my fault..."
"Heh."
It's a bunch of rare comical reactions that Nero could only grin at them.
But hey, he was feeling mighty proud of it.
Celis silently walked over to Nero, her expression serene despite the chaos.
"'Tis quite the bold declaration, Savior. Though I suppose it suits thee well."
"Thanks, Celis," Nero replied with a grin.
Near the food tables, Mira and the other chefs had already started discussing logistics.
"We'll need to design a banner for Waifuria!" one said enthusiastically. "Something that represents all of us!"
"Should we create signature dishes for the Land of Waifuria…?" Another enthusiastic human girl added.
The practical minded people were already moving past the initial shock and into planning mode.
Near the center of the square, Nero surveyed the entire scenery with lots of satisfaction at the progress so far.
They were starting small, but it's definitely a start… and a solid one at that.
As Nero gazed beyond the horizon, the artificial stars twinkled overhead in Luna's carefully maintained sky.
The village – no, the capital of Waifuria – glowed with warm magical light.
His summons celebrated together, their initial shock having given way to acceptance and even pride in their absurdly named homeland.
Aurelia finally emerged from behind her hands, moving to stand beside him.
"You're completely impossible," she said quietly.
"But you love me anyway," he replied with a grin.
"... Unfortunately, yes." A pause. "Though I still can't believe you actually did that."
"Would you have preferred something boring?"
"I would have greatly appreciated it if it was something that didn't make me explain what 'waifu' means to everyone."
"But it was funny."
"..."
Her Lord Nero was really shameless.
The celebration showed no signs of stopping anytime soon.
The chant echoed across the floating island, carrying into the night sky.
A ridiculous name for a place built by ridiculous circumstances.
But it was honest.
It was memorable.
And most importantly, it was theirs.
The artificial stars twinkled overhead.
Laughter and music filled the night air.
And somewhere in the chaos, Luna's despairing voice could still be heard:
"Waifuria... I'll never hear the end of this from the other mages..."
Welcome to Waifuria!
