Chapter 983: 980: What's Wrong?
Corey could not understand why in the world his Stars of Consciousness and even his Cosmic Soul were behaving on their own without his instructions.
His Sea of Consciousness was heavily injured, and his Stars of Consciousness and Cosmic Soul were making it worse instead of healing it.
'Something is wrong. Very wrong.'
Just as Corey had this thought, the doors to the throne room opened and Corey looked in the direction of the doors.
His eyes immediately landed on Jeremy who walked in front of his companions with an extremely solemn and also sharp gaze.
When Corey saw that, he immediately knew that something was wrong.
He had been training Jeremy for some time and he knew the king to a certain extent. The sort of expression he was having was an expression he would only have when there was a dire matter at hand. His current expression was not his normal expression.
Jeremy looked around, and his gaze first landed on Syrelle, the Queen, Orynthia, and then Thalos for just a mere second, before he then looked at Corey.
A frown of confusion appeared on his face when he saw Corey seemingly in pain and nearly falling to his knees.
"What's wrong, Jeremy?" Elizabeth Keen asked, but Jeremy ignored her and approached Corey with confusion and concern in his eyes.
Corey pushed through the headache his mind was giving him, and he stood as he watched Jeremy approach him.
"Long time no see, Ryan."
Jeremy smiled, and Corey immediately knew that his smile was fake. It was forced, and he had no idea.
He did not refuse Jeremy's attempt to hug him, and he hugged the King of Miracles back.
"Yeah. Long time no see. What are you doing here? I'm surprised to see you here."
He asked, and Jeremy looked at Syrelle with the same fake smile he gave Corey.
"Well, we encountered Princess Syrelle when we were fighting a pack of wolves. If not for her, we would have died at the hands of the border army of the Outsiders."
Corey raised a brow while pushing through his terrible headache.
"You're very lucky then."
Jeremy smiled, and then he shifted his gaze to Pamela, Kiefer, Selene, and Willow.
"It seems you have business with the Queen. Care to share?"
Corey shrugged. "Nothing much. I'm trying to negotiate with the Queen for something, but it seems she's not ready to accept my offer."
He glanced at Queen Nerith who merely raised her brows as she stroked Ecles' hair with a slightly amused expression.
Corey's eyes flashed with a pondering light as he thought of ways to convince the Queen to accept his offer, but when his head throbbed once again and a brutal headache slammed into him, almost making him groan out loud. He decided to take his leave, rest, and figure out what the hell was going on.
"Your Majesty, for some reason, I'm not feeling too well. Can you please give me and my friends a place to stay for the time being?... Preferably not a cell or a room with cold metals."
Queen Nerith smiled when she heard Corey's words. Even if Corey did not specifically request for a room that was not a cell, she would not have put him and his people in one.
Maybe...
"Alright. The guards outside will guide you to your rooms."
Corey bowed slightly, and then he patted Jeremy on the shoulder.
"I have a terrible headache. I'm going to rest. We'll talk when I get better."
Without waiting for Jeremy's response, he walked away, and Pamela, Kiefer, Selene, and Willow followed.
A confused and also worried expression appeared on Jeremy's face as he looked at Corey who walked out of the throne room.
'This is... different.'
His eyes flashed with a complicated light.
----
Time went by after Corey left the throne room and went to his room.
He sat on the chair with his right leg crossed over his left leg, and his eyes closed.
He was currently going through his Sea of Consciousness to find out the reason why his Stars of Consciousness and been misbehaving, but he found nothing despite searching for over an hour.
"I can't seem to find the source of the problem no matter how much I search. Is my mind being secretly manipulated? Or am I in an illusion."
Corey had thought of so many reasons as to why his Stars of Consciousness and Cosmic Soul were acting up, and each thought he came up with, he did not like.
"Let me just focus on healing. I'm sure I'll figure out the reason for everything with time."
Just as he had this thought, he heard the sound of a knock on his door and he frowned. He opened his eyes in the real world, and his eyes flashed as he briefly used his Eyes of Omniscience to see who was at the door.
'Jeremy?'
He frowned as a sense of wrongness hit him once again when he saw Jeremy standing in front of his door.
He shook his head to relieve himself of the nausea, and then he approached the door and opened it.
"Yes?"
He asked with raised brows and a calm expression, however, his body and mana were primed to act at a moment's notice.
With how strange Jeremy had been acting, he was beginning to suspect him.
'If only I could use my Eyes of Omniscience to see through him and know if he was being controlled or manipulated.'
'Even my Eyes of Truth and Judgement would be very useful in this instance to know if he has evil intentions toward me.'
"The Queen has invited us for dinner." Jeremy said with a calm expression.
However, Corey could see the wariness and alertness in the eyes of the King of Miracles.
He frowned, and thought for a fraction of a second. "Alright."
Jeremy nodded, and then he looked to his left and right while standing in the same spot without moving for a whole five seconds.
Corey raised his brows, and looked at Jeremy strangely while taking brief glances at his right and left too.
"What's wrong?"
Jeremy frowned deeply, and once again, his eyes flashed with confusion and wariness.
"Everything..." He shook his head. "No. Nothing is wrong. Let's go."
Corey frowned, but he didn't object or say anything. He followed behind the King of Miracles in the narrow corridor.
