Single Wish: Rise Of The Omniscient Paragon

Chapter 982: 979: So Wrong? [Bonus]

Knock Knock Knock

Hearing the sound of the knocks on his door, he did not know why, but it felt like he had experienced such a thing before.

He shifted his attention from the healing of his mental space to the door. His eyes flashed with a pure white light for a fraction of a second, and he frowned when he saw Jeremy standing behind his door with an extremely solemn and also wary expression.

'What's going on? First, he had a worried and lost expression when he appeared in the throne room. Now, he seems anxious and wary?'

'If that isn't suspicious, I don't know what is.'

'Let's see what he wants.'

A part of him wished he could use his Eyes of Omniscience for long to know what was actually going on, but he couldn't risk using his eyes since they had been gravely injured after overusing them.

Despite his eyes showing no injuries but just dullness, only he knew the sort of pain he was experiencing just by keeping his eyes opened.

He stood, and then he opened the door, standing face to face before Jeremy.

"What's wrong?" He asked, but he received no answer from Jeremy.

Instead, Jeremy turned his back to him and began looking to his right and left hand side with a cold but anxious expression.

His posture was primed to defend at any moments notice, and Corey was absolutely baffled by Jeremy's behaviour.

He frowned deeply, and then he looked to his right and left. Just as he expected, he saw no one or sensed nothing unusual.

"What the hell is your problem?"

He asked, and Jeremy frowned while relaxing his stance.

"I thought I sensed something, maybe I was mistaken."

Corey frowned and looked at Jeremy like he was a mad man.

He was not one to brag, but if there was one thing he was certain of, it was that there was no way Jeremy's perception was greater than his.

In fact, he knew that Jeremy's perception was not up to one percent of his perceptive capabilities. Not to mention the fact that he was not a talented individual.

Corey shook his head. "You're definitely paranoid for no reason. Why are you here exactly?"

Jeremy inhaled and then exhaled deeply before speaking. "The Queen invited us to have dinner with her, and since I was-"

"Move!"

Corey shouted as he saw a masked individual wearing completely black clothes appear behind Jeremy with a blood red spear in his hands.

Before Corey or Jeremy could react, the masked individual already pierced Jeremy's heart with the spear, and pierced Corey's right lung.

Both of them staggered and fell backward, with their blood painting the ground.

'This!'

Corey's eyes widened in disbelief as he gazed at the masked individual with suspicion. It felt like there was something at the tip of his tongue. A feeling, a truth that his instincts were trying to tell him and remove the veil from his eyes.

But for some reason, he couldn't just grasp and understand what his instincts were telling him.

He looked at Jeremy, and when he saw that the King of Miracles, the Hero of New Earth was no longer, he growled.

He held the blood red spear and attempted to pull it from both his chest and that of Jeremy's.

But just as he about to do that, the world froze and time stopped.

----

"Mother, may I speak?"

Queen Nerith looked at her daughter and nodded. "You may."

Syrelle shifted her gaze to Corey. "You make all these promises but it seems you're forgetting that you're just one man. You don't seem to be a king, and you're definitely not the Progenitor of your world so you don't have the right to give our people a place to stay."

"As for your promise in siding with us in the eventual war against major powers of the universe, it has no value."

"Sure you might be special. A Tier 3 being able to fight Tier 6s is definitely unheard of, and I'm sure you're going to be an extremely powerful figure in the future. But that's that... In the future."

"For all we know, you might die today, tomorrow, or whenever. The point is that you might die before you're able to become an extremely powerful figure that can actually help us to win against our enemies."

"And if you die, and our knowledge is passed on to the powers supporting you. We'll be at a severe loss."

"So, you telling us that you'll support us in the war is us taking a massive risk."

Corey tilted his head slightly, and then he shifted his gaze to Queen Nerith, and then back to Syrelle.

He knew that what the Crown Princess was saying was completely reasonable and he couldn't blame her for her words.

Despite how frustrating it may be to him.

Choosing to give him their knowledge in exchange for a promise that was based on him being alive, him being able to advance to the level where he could help them in the war, and most importantly, him choosing not to renege on his promise.

His lips parted open, and just as he was about to speak, Syrelle spoke.

"Also, you're not the first... New Earthling to make us a similar offer."

"Hmm?" Corey tilted his head slightly with a baffled expression.

"Jeremy Draker and his companions. They offered us a similar offer."

The moment Corey heard these words, a deep frown along with a strong feeling of wrongness hit him like a gust of wind.

His brain throbbed, and he staggered and nearly fell to one knee because he could feel his already depleted Sea of Consciousness being depleted once again at an alarming rate.

His Sea of Consciousness was heavily injured and he had reduced its activities to the bare minimum so as to accelerate its rate of healing.

But for some strange reason, his Sea of Consciousness was acting up on its own and giving him a terrible headache.

'What the hell is going on? And why does everything feel so... wrong?'
