Chapter 981: 978: Déjà vu (Bonus Chapter)
"Since I don't have a treasure of that grade. I'll make you a promise instead."
"A promise?" Queen Nerith raised her brows, and Corey nodded.
"I promise that I'll give you and your people a place to stay on New Earth. Not just any place, a place where your people would not be treated like slaves or be taken advantage of. A place where your people would thrive. And after that, I promise to assist you and your people if your ever have to go to war against the powers that reduced you to this state in the past."
Queen Nerith furrowed her brows in deep contemplation, and Syrelle raised her hand.
"Mother, may I speak?"
Queen Nerith looked at her daughter and nodded. "You may."
Syrelle shifted her gaze to Corey. "You make all these promises but it seems you're forgetting that you're just one man. You don't seem to be a king, and you're definitely not the Progenitor of your world so you don't have the right to give our people a place to stay."
"As for your promise in siding with us in the eventual war against major powers of the universe, it has no value."
"Sure you might be special. A Tier 3 being able to fight Tier 6s is definitely unheard of, and I'm sure you're going to be an extremely powerful figure in the future. But that's that... In the future."
"For all we know, you might die today, tomorrow, or whenever. The point is that you might die before you're able to become an extremely powerful figure that can actually help us to win against our enemies."
"And if you die, and our knowledge is passed on to the powers supporting you. We'll be at a severe loss."
"So, you telling us that you'll support us in the war is us taking a massive risk."
Corey tilted his head slightly, and then he shifted his gaze to Queen Nerith. But when he saw that she was not saying anything, he knew that she was in support of her daughter's words, and he couldn't blame her since it was completely reasonable.
Choosing to give him their knowledge in exchange for a promise that was based on him being alive, him being able to advance to the level where he could help them in the war, and most importantly, him choosing not to renege on his promise.
His lips parted open, and just as he was about to speak, Syrelle spoke.
"Also, you're not the first... New Earthling to make us a similar offer."
"Hmm?" Corey tilted his head slightly with a baffled expression.
"Jeremy Draker and his companions. They offered us a similar offer."
Corey frowned deeply, and then his Ears of Omniscience picked up on a sound at the doors of the throne room.
He turned and looked at the doors, and Syrelle's eyes lit up for a brief moment.
"Seems they're back."
As the doors to the throne room opened, Corey instantly landed on the familiar face of Jeremy Draker, and then he shifted his gaze to the King's companions.
For some strange reason, his attention shifted back to Jeremy, and he could see the worry and confusion that was hidden in his eyes.
Elizabeth Keen was trying to talk to him, trying to engage him in a conversation, but he seemed oddly out of it.
'Strange.' Corey thought.
"Ryan."
Jeremy called out, and his companions also took note of his presence. They were all taken aback seeing him, Pamela, Kiefer, and Selene. And for a moment, they didn't know how to react.
Jeremy approached him, and then he opened his arms wide and smiled.
"It's been a long time."
Corey frowned slightly because he could see with his extremely high perception that Jeremy's frown was fake and forced.
'What's wrong with him?'
Although was curious, he did not refuse Jeremy's attempt to hug him. He hugged him back.
"What are you doing here?"
Jeremy looked at him for a second, and then he shifted his gaze to Queen Nerith and her children.
Caesar took a step forward and was about to speak, but Jeremy spoke before he could.
"Syrelle found us and saved us from the army of the Outsiders. If not for her, some of us would be dead by now."
Corey furrowed his brows slightly, and then he looked in the direction of Syrelle.
Something about everything just felt odd to him.
"I guess... you're one lucky bastard."
Jeremy looked at him with a light smile. "I guess so too." He paused, then continued. "What about you? What are you doing here?"
Corey looked at Queen Nerith. "Well, I ended up saving the Princess of the Silver Elves, and she led me here." He shifted his gaze back to Jeremy. "Funny enough, it's because of two Princesses we're both here."
Jeremy's lips curled up slightly, and for the first time since he entered this throne room, he saw a genuine smile on the face of the King of Miracles.
However, his words made the smile on Corey's face to freeze.
"If you put it that way, people would think you're a pedophile since it was clearly an underage that brought you here."
Corey's lips twitched, and although he had the urge to give Jeremy a good beating or two, he decided not to.
He went back to bargaining with the Queen so that she could accept his request to obtain their knowledge on craftsmanship.
After a rather grueling long minutes of persuasion and theatrics, and the likes. All of which were extremely exhausting to Corey, he was rejected by the Queen.
Much to his frustration.
----
Some minutes later, he went to the room that was given to him by Queen Nerith, and then a deep frown appeared on his face as he sat on the chair in the room.
"Something... feels wrong... Very wrong."
Although Corey could not put his hand on it, he had a feeling that something was very wrong about the whole situation.
Knock Knock Knock
Corey looked at the door.
Everything felt like déjà vu.
