Single Wish: Rise Of The Omniscient Paragon

Chapter 889: 886: Baffling

"As for your question... I was tricked."

Corey narrowed his eyes, and then he gently placed his cup of coffee on the table.

"What do you mean? Who or what tricked you?"

Archmage Kael tilted his head slightly while raising his brows. "And why do you want that information? What are you going to do with it? It's not like you're from my planet, so how would you know anything about my current and past situation?"

Corey smiled. "You can just say that I'm curious."

"Curiosity killed the cat, boy." Archmage Kael warned.

"And I'm a lion with fangs and claws... Not a cat." Corey's smile remained, and the Archmage could not help but laugh out loud.

"Boy o boy. When last did I get a good laugh like this. I can give you that at least. You're funny. Very funny."

Corey shrugged with the same smile. "Thank you. I don't get that very often."

The Archmage chuckled with a soft shake of his head. "You know... you're a strange one, boy. First of all, you're way too calm for my liking... Way too calm."

The Archmage looked at Corey with a smile, and then he drank from his cup of coffee.

"Secondly, the questions you've asked are... quite strange."

Corey raised a brow.

"You didn't ask about why my kingdom is currently in this state. You didn't ask what the name of my kingdom was. You didn't ask about the history of my world or my kingdom. You didn't ask me anything about cultivation, magic, martial arts, or anything of sort."

"Most individuals, both young and old, would choose to ask me questions about magic, mana, cultivation, martial arts... absolutely anything that would make them stronger... As long as they're in your situation where they feel safe."

The corner of Corey's lips curled up slightly.

'Why would I ask you any of that when you can literally lie and ruin my path to the peak of power.'

'Besides... I literally have most of the cultivation manuals and martial arts texts of Virendell.'

Archmage Kael noticed the twitch in Corey's lips, but he said nothing to address it. He continued talking.

"When I told you my identity, your expression was calm, and didn't even flinch or change in the slightest. Which must mean you have no idea about the man I used to be, or you do, but you just don't care because of the power backing you."

Archmage Kael took another sip of his coffee, but his expression changed when he realized that his coffee had finished with that sip.

"Do you want more?"

Corey asked, and the Archmage flicked his fingers. The cup flew toward Corey at a speed that was faster than what an average Tier 3 would be able to react to.

However, Corey calmly caught the cup and made another cup of coffee for the Archmage.

"Hmm... Quite a unique body you have."

Corey glanced at the Archmage as he poured the last spoon of coffee into his cup.

"Thank you."

That was his only response, and the Archmage smiled.

"Another reason why I said you're quite strange. Your body. It's... truly baffling."

Corey did not look at the Archmage. Instead, he focused on the making of the Archmage's cup of coffee. He poured four teaspoons of sugar.

"I've been watching you ever since you defeated Eidolon, the calamity."

This time around, Corey glanced at the Archmage. But he did so for not more than two seconds.

"To be honest, I was quite surprised that you not only survived Eidolon, but that you killed it."

"You see. You guys were. No. You were not meant to be able to kill Eidolon. It was meant to be far stronger than every single one of you combined, but you not only won... You completely dominated it."

"You killing Eidolon woke me up, so I could not see how you defeated it. But with my powers, I knew that only you defeated it. You had no help from your weak teammates."

"From then, I kept on watching you."

Corey finished making the cup of coffee, and without interrupting Archmage Kael, he manipulated the wind to bring it closer to the Archmage.

When it was about a meter away from the Archmage, Corey felt the same familiar power engulf the cup, and he left the cup for the Archmage to control.

'One meter huh.' Corey's eyes subtly flashed.

"Hmm. So good." Archmage Kael commented as he drank from the cup of coffee. He took three sips before he chose to continue his words.

"As I was saying, I've been watching you ever since you killed Eidolon."

"I saw how you avoided the hands of death, a feat which should not be possible by somebody of your level."

"I also saw how you defeated the Thirteenth Calamity. Although it was a fraction of its peak, it was still the Thirteenth Calamity."

"I saw all of that, and I was immensely surprised and intrigued by a lot of things. So many things."

"Your eyes. Your weapon. Your ability to manipulate both space and time. Your ability to weave runes for somebody of your cultivation realm. Your healing capabilities, and so much more."

"But the thing that truly caught my attention was your body and mana."

Archmage Kael paused, and took a big gulp of his cup of coffee. He exhaled softly afterwards.

Meanwhile, Corey calmly drank his second cup of coffee with an utterly calm expression.

"The physical capabilities of your body is unlike anything I've ever heard of before. Your physical capabilities can even put the Titans to shame."

"But that is not what I'm truly interested in. I'm interested in it, but it's not my main point of interest."

"What truly fascinates and baffles me even till now, is the fact that your body does not absorb a single iota of mana from the world. Even now, as you're standing before me. Your body is not absorbing a single mana of the world, which is why you've not been corrupted by the blood of Death."

Corey calmly glanced at the drop of blood that fell from the Archmage's hollow eye, and then he shifted his gaze to the Archmage's only good eye.

He calmly took another sip of his coffee while staring into the eyes of the Archmage.
