Single Wish: Rise Of The Omniscient Paragon

Chapter 888: 885: Tricked

A strange but not tense silence filled the atmosphere within the unique space that was hidden in a completely insignificant well that was at the center of the Dying City that was once known as Virendell.

"Would you like a cup of coffee?"

This question lingered in the air for seconds, and the corpse which was hanging upside down from the tree had a truly stunned and confused expression on its rotten face. An expression it could not recall having for at least a million years.

Its gaze shifted from the cup of coffee to the young and completely strange boy that was sitting at the edge of the space.

Despite the fact that the boy had offered him this strange and unknown cup of coffee with a smile, the distance between both of them was at least hundred meters.

In the next second, an expression of realization dawned on Corey, and then he slapped his forehead.

"Foolish me. I completely forgot that you're bound and you can't get the cup of coffee from where you are. Or can you?"

Corey asked with a slight tilt of his head, but without waiting for the corpse to answer, he shook his head vigorously and tapped the table.

"Of course you can't. I'm so foolish once again to be asking such questions."

He waved his hand, and a gentle wind blew beneath the cup of coffee.

"Here. Let me help you with that."

The cup of coffee floated toward the corpse till it appeared directly in front of his face.

"Uhm... So, do you still need help drinking it?"

Corey asked with an unsure tone, and the corpse looked at him for three straight seconds, and Corey tilted his head and blinked in confusion.

"What?"

The corpse looked back at the cup of coffee that was still hot despite the wind hovering beneath it.

The corpse stared at the wind for a second, and then Corey felt an unknown power surround the cup of coffee, and without hesitation, he dispersed the wind he was manipulating.

"Your control of runes and formations is... not bad."

Corey raised a brow.

"There are some slight changes you can make to make your control much better, but for your level... It's not bad."

Corey tilted his head slightly, and then he smiled. "Coming from a respected Archmage, I feel honored."

"Hmm." The corpse nodded its head slightly, and then the cup of coffee was brought to its lips.

To Corey's slight surprise, the corpse drank the coffee upside down and not a single drop of coffee fell to the ground.

'I guess I should not be surprised since an Archmage should have a lot of control over their powers.'

Just as Corey had this thought, the Archmage removed the cup from his lips and smacked them with bright eyes.

"This is truly delicious."

Corey smiled. "Thank you."

The corpse drank from the cup again, and Corey asked.

"By the way. I never got to know your name."

The corpse glanced at him, and for a fraction of a second, Corey thought he noticed a flash of irritation in the eyes of the corpse, and he was taken aback for a moment.

'Don't tell me that he was angry because I interrupted him from drinking his cup of coffee?'

His lips almost twitched, and then the corpse replied.

"Archmage Kael Yurein."

The corpse replied nonchalantly, and Corey nodded slightly.

'Just as I said.'

The Archmage glanced at Corey, expecting a reaction of shock, disbelief, and awe. But when he saw none of that from Corey, he just shook his head in anger and disappointment.

Corey looked around once again with his pure white eyes scanning whatever it was that he could scan.

"What happened to you by the way? Why are you in this position and... situation?"

Corey asked without looking directly at Archmage Kael, and the Archmage replied with his eyes closed. He was enjoying his coffee.

"What are you doing?"

This time around, Corey looked at the Archmage with raised brows, and without opening his eyes, the Archmage continued speaking.

"Why are you so calm? Why are you not worried? Why are you not in fear? Why are you speaking to me like you're not in a dangerous situation? Shouldn't you be fighting me? Attacking me? Running away? Thinking of ways to save your life?"

Corey looked at Archmage Kael for a second, and then he shifted his gaze to his steaming cup of coffee.

He took a sip, and then he asked.

"Am I in danger?"

This time around, the Archmage looked at Corey with an expression that said- 'Are you an idiot?'

"Isn't that obvious?"

Corey smiled lightly, and then he took another sip.

"How did you get into this situation? What happened to you? And who put a great Archmage as yourself into this situation?"

Archmage Kael frowned, and then he looked at his cup of coffee before taking a sip from it.

"It's a long story."

"Make it short."

Archmage Kael was taken aback, and then he looked at Corey with a perplexed expression.

"You're a strange one."

"Well. You said I was in danger, and I believe I don't have that much time to be listening to long stories."

Corey shifted his gaze to the crown of bones beneath that was on the throne.

Archmage Kael also looked at the crown of bones, and a light smile appeared on his lips.

"So you already know the true source of danger."

Corey tilted his head slightly as he drank from his cup of coffee.

"Maybe." He smiled.

Archmage Kael stared at him, and then he shook his head with a soft chuckle.

"I wonder what supreme world you came from. Because only a supreme world can create somebody as talented as you... A supreme world that's like my home planet."

Corey's expression was calm as he listened to the words of the Archmage while sipping his hot cup of coffee.

Archmage Kael sighed softly, and then he looked at Corey straight in the eye.

"As for your question... I was tricked."
