Chapter 887: 884: Coffee?
"Interesting... Would you like to listen?" The corpse suddenly spoke.
The moment Corey heard these words, he calmly shifted his gaze to the corpse. There was no hint of shock, disbelief, or fear in his gaze when he heard those words.
He had expected the 'corpse' to still be alive despite the lack of aura, life force, and anything that indicated that it was alive being absent.
The only change that appeared in his gaze was a flicker of curiosity at the words of the corpse.
'Would you like to listen?... Isn't that what was recorded in one of the books of Virendell?'
----
' And when the last monarch of Virendell asked them about their purpose, they offered a crown made of broken ribs and asked, "Would you like to listen?"
----
Corey recalled a part of the book he read, and he shifted his gaze to the crown of bones.
He increased the input of his Ears of Omniscience slightly, but he still could not hear anything.
He frowned slightly.
"Oh, boy. You can't listen just by trying to focus."
The corpse interrupted his actions with a soft chuckle of amusement, and Corey looked at him.
To his slight surprise, the corpse's voice was normal. Absolutely normal.
Its voice was deep like that of a normal man, and it was not disgusting, horrifying, or anything out of the ordinary.
Which was a little bit to Corey, but he chose not to focus on that. Instead, he looked into the only good eye of the corpse and remained silent.
Ten seconds passed, and when Corey still remained silent, the corpse tilted its head slightly.
"I'm guessing you're not much of a talker, boy."
Corey raised a brow, and then he took a brief glance at the black blood that fell from its hollow eye, before shifting his gaze back to the only good eye of the corpse.
He looked at it from up to down with his pure white eyes glowing slightly, and then he asked a completely unexpected question.
"What's your Tier?"
The corpse blinked its eyes with a baffled expression, and it tilted its head slightly with a truly perplexed expression.
"Tier? Are you trying to toy with me? Do you take me for a fool just because of my current position?"
A flicker of anger flashed in the corpse's eyes, and the fleshy branches and vines binding it trembled slightly.
"I'm an Archmage boy. An Archmage. Do not for once believe that you can fathom the depths of my powers."
"Toy with me one more time, and I'll incinerate your very soul."
Corey's expression remained calm and indifferent despite hearing the threatening words of the corpse.
He looked to this right, and then he opened his palm. A wooden chair appeared out of thin air, and Corey sat on it with his legs crossed and his arms folded.
He snapped his finger, and then a wooden table appeared in front of him along with two mugs.
One was black, while the other was plain white with the name Corey under it.
Corey looked at the corpse with a calm and unbothered expression, and then he asked.
"Have you ever heard of coffee?"
The corpse had a truly stunned and baffled expression, and it could not give a response.
Corey shook his head. "What about milk? Sugar? Honey? Cookies? Do you know any of these?"
With every word Corey spoke, he brought the items from thin air and placed them on the table in front of him.
In less than a minute, the table was filled with coffee, sugar, honey, milk, and cookies.
The corpse had an extremely baffled expression, and even when Corey stared at him, he could not react.
Snap
Snap
"Hey. I was asking you if you truly have no idea of what these delicacies are. Cause I'm sure that you must be starving and dying of thirst."
"Hell, I'm even sure that you must have even forgotten what the taste of water, talk less of food, tastes like. Am I right? Or am I right?"
The corpse remained silent once again, and Corey shook his head in disappointment.
He looked at the table once again, and then he tilted his head with a perplexed expression for a second before snapping his fingers in realization.
A spoon appeared in his hand.
"I knew that I was forgetting something."
With a light smile, he took five spoons of coffee and poured it into his cup, and then he took three spoons of coffee and poured it into the cup that was facing the corpse.
"Since you don't know what coffee, milk, sugar, or cookies are. Which I must say is very sad, I'm just going to try out an experiment on you."
Corey looked at the corpse with a light smile, and then he grabbed the sugar.
"You see... I like my coffee black. Just plain black without any sugar or milk. It makes the coffee too sweet for my liking, and although it's not bad and I also like sweet things. But it doesn't feel right."
"I just have this feeling that coffee should be taken bitter, you know."
Corey looked at the corpse with a smile as he poured five spoons of sugar into the cup facing the corpse.
He then moved to the milk, and began pouring the liquid milk into his cup. After three seconds, he stopped.
He dropped the milk, and then he tapped the table.
A formation appeared beneath the two cups, and water suddenly began to appear above the cups. The water fell into the cups, and a second later, steam began to rise from the cups.
Corey took a teaspoon and mixed the two hot cups of coffee with a smile.
Tak
He dropped the teaspoons on the table, and then he smiled at the corpse.
"And here you have it. Two hot cups of perfectly made coffee."
Corey grabbed his cup of coffee and took a sip of it.
He exhaled softly with a euphoric expression, and he could not help but mumble softly.
"My goodness, that felt good. I should be taking coffee more often. Feels like old times."
Corey shook his head slightly with a smile, and then he dropped his cup of coffee.
He looked at the corpse, and then he smiled.
"Would you like a cup of coffee?"
