Chapter 130: Chapter 90.3: Aizen's Invitation
Unperturbed, Chu Yang edged closer to Yamamoto. With the trio gone, the chaos in Soul Society ceased, but all members of Central 46 were dead, foreshadowing a political shift in the Court Guard Squads.
Most pressing now was the Hōgyoku.
Yamamoto spoke to Chu Yang, asking him to relinquish it. Chu Yang explained it had been consumed by his soul palace. Unable to retrieve it with any method, he could only say it was fused with his soul.
Fearing Aizen's schemes, Yamamoto suggested removing the Hōgyoku and proposed that either Kisuke Urahara return to help, or Mayuri Kurotsuchi devise a method.
"I want to become a Shinigami," Chu Yang said abruptly.
A living human wants to become a Soul Reaper?
For Yamamoto, it was the first time facing such a request.
In the past, intrusions into the Soul Society by humans weren't uncommon. However, intruders would soon be expelled by the Soul Reapers, and some couldn't even make it past the Four Great Gates. No one had ever survived long enough to reach Yamamoto, let alone request to join the ranks of the Soul Reapers.
To become a Soul Reaper?
Yamamoto fell into deep thought. A person who had forced Aizen to retreat multiple times must have extraordinary potential. Moreover, if Chu Yang stayed in the Soul Society, it would ensure Aizen couldn't attack him in the human world, thus securing the Hōgyoku.
The flickering light in the room cast an eerie glow between the two, intensifying the atmosphere.
After a pause, Yamamoto finally spoke slowly, "Do you know what becoming a Soul Reaper means?"
Chu Yang replied, "It means I must abandon everything in the human world."
"And you can let go of family, friends, fame, and wealth? With your current abilities, everything in the human world is within reach," Yamamoto pressed.
Chu Yang shrugged with a helpless smile. "Those things mean nothing. Sooner or later, I'll die, and after death, I'll end up here anyway. This world is the real end. I despise meaningless cycles."
Life is fleeting, gone in the blink of an eye, with only a few short decades. In contrast, a Soul Reaper at the pinnacle could live thousands of years. The difference was clear.
Understanding Chu Yang's resolve, Yamamoto slowly nodded. "In that case, I can grant your request."
Chu Yang's eyes brightened.
"But I'll still find a way to extract the Hōgyoku from your body; you can't protect it," Yamamoto said, as though he had seen through Chu Yang's intentions.
Chu Yang nodded indifferently. If Yamamoto could actually retrieve it, that would indeed be something.
Two days later.
Ichigo and the others, having recovered from their injuries, prepared to return to the human world. It was only then that they learned of Chu Yang's decision to remain.
Rukia was also staying in the Soul Society, but since it was her home, they understood her choice. However, Chu Yang's decision was different, which deeply unsettled Ichigo.
Anxious, Ichigo brought his friends to convince Chu Yang to return with them. Reluctantly, Chu Yang explained that if he brought the Hōgyoku back, he'd only bring danger along with it. Aizen wasn't someone to be compared with ordinary Hollows. Returning irresponsibly would endanger the human world.
Considering Ichigo's sense of responsibility, Chu Yang knew that simply expressing his desire to become a Soul Reaper wouldn't suffice. Appealing to his sense of duty was necessary for Ichigo to understand.
After hearing his explanation, their expressions softened slightly, though they were still quietly sorrowful. Even though they had witnessed the cycles of reincarnation in the Soul Society, they still found it difficult to face separation.
Originally planning to depart in the morning, they delayed until the following evening before bidding farewell to Chu Yang and Rukia.
Thus, Chu Yang's new chapter in the Soul Reaper world began.
…
"Why can't you retrieve it?"
"I didn't say that. I said I can't sense the Hōgyoku's presence at all!" Kisuke Urahara replied, as Yamamoto stared at him, hoping to catch a lie.
Yamamoto's voice grew cold. "This kid isn't another one of your contingency plans, is he?"
Annoyed, Urahara rolled his eyes, "You accused me the same way a century ago. Aizen was the one responsible back then…"
Recalling the past, Yamamoto's face showed a rare hint of embarrassment.
"So, this truly has nothing to do with you?"
"Nothing at all!"
"Then where is the Hōgyoku?"
"How would I know?!"
Both turned to Chu Yang simultaneously.
Chu Yang smirked, "If even the Captain-Commander and the former head of the Technology Development Bureau don't understand, how should I know?"
Yamamoto frowned, "Did you really seize the Hōgyoku from Aizen? Could you have been hypnotized by him?"
Chu Yang feigned ignorance, replying, "Who knows? It's possible."
Yamamoto struck the ground forcefully with his staff, exclaiming, "Aizen's tricks again! Damned Aizen; his performance was convincing!"
Kisuke Urahara shot Chu Yang a covert glance. Unlike Yamamoto, he suspected the Hōgyoku was indeed within Chu Yang. Watching Chu Yang pretend to be clueless, Urahara decided not to expose him. In fact, he was relieved; if even he couldn't extract the Hōgyoku, Aizen likely couldn't either.
"Captain-Commander, if that's all, I'll take my leave…" Urahara's voice carried a hint of sarcasm, but Yamamoto ignored it, somewhat surprised.
"You don't plan to stay?"
"My current life suits me better, and Kurotsuchi Mayuri is a decent head of the Technology Development Bureau. There's no place for me here."
Urahara scratched his head. He knew Yamamoto would likely reassign Mayuri to another squad if he returned, given the vacant captain positions left by Aizen's betrayal.
"Suit yourself," Yamamoto replied, turning to leave.
"Have you considered that you might regret abandoning the human world to become a Soul Reaper?" Urahara asked Chu Yang, his expression complicated.
"Then I'll regret it. Choices always bring regret," Chu Yang chuckled.
"With that outlook, you probably won't," Urahara replied, smiling as well.
"Keep the Hōgyoku safe, and don't let Aizen get it," he said, leaving Chu Yang no time to feign ignorance.
The next day.
Under Yamamoto's guidance, Chu Yang entered the Shin'o Spiritual Arts Academy, receiving an Asauchi, like any other student.
The Asauchi would gradually transform into his Zanpakutō, influenced by his soul.
…
Naruto World
With the lineage factor technology from the One Piece world, Chu Yang prepared to collect the bloodline of the Otsutsuki clan.
In the Leaf Village, the Senju, Uchiha, and Hyuga clans all traced their origins to the Otsutsuki. Beyond the village, identifiable sources included the Uzumaki clan, Kinkaku and Ginkaku, and the Taketori clan, to which Kimimaro belonged—six groups in total.
Regarding the people on the moon, they were beyond his capabilities for now.
To legitimize his bloodline collection, Chu Yang planned to promote the development of the Leaf Village's medical system as a cover.
"I reviewed the proposal you sent; the healthcare system mentioned is intriguing…" Tobirama Senju looked up at Chu Yang from behind his desk, a trace of admiration in his eyes. "It's good to see you taking on official duties, but don't overburden yourself. You're still young."
Chu Yang scratched his head, smiling. "I just thought of it randomly and found it interesting…"
Tobirama nodded. "Though we can't implement all aspects immediately, there's an urgent need for departments like emergency care, disease control, and a blood bank."
"Since school is on break, you'll have plenty of time. Consider this a learning experience."
With medical reform ideas from his past life, Chu Yang quickly earned Tobirama's trust. The departments themselves were secondary; the blood bank was the true objective.
War had just ended, and medical standards were in their infancy worldwide. Even the concept of medical ninjas was new, let alone nurses or doctors for civilians. Ninja clans viewed bodily organs as valuable for maintaining kekkei genkai, but blood and genes were largely overlooked. Consequently, Chu Yang's establishment of a blood bank garnered widespread support, particularly since the project was endorsed by Tobirama and marked Chu Yang's debut as a young clan leader.
Within a week, Chu Yang amassed the blood samples he needed and advanced his research.
Creating equipment for lineage factor technology would be time-consuming but feasible with his technical knowledge.
Lacking assistants, Chu Yang was struggling with the workload when Tobirama developed a new jutsu—Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu. Unlike other clones, shadow clones had independent consciousness, and their experiences transferred to the original upon dispelling. Ideal for training and research, this S-rank jutsu was the only one of its level with a near-unlimited application.
The only limitation was chakra depletion, as each shadow clone required substantial chakra. But for Chu Yang, with his vast reserves, this wasn't an issue.
Chu Yang immediately sought out Tobirama to learn both the Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu and the Flying Thunder God Jutsu. Shadow clones solved his manpower problem, while Flying Thunder God allowed him to return to the Leaf Village instantly, wherever he ventured to gather blood samples from other Otsutsuki descendants.
Deep in the Forest of Death, Chu Yang carved out a hidden underground lab, protected by barriers and Confusion Spells. His shadow clones toiled day and night, assembling the necessary equipment.
Finally, he set out for his first target: the Hidden Mist Village, home to the Taketori clan (Kimimaro's clan). The Taketori were prominent but isolated, which made Chu Yang's task easier.
No one could have predicted that such a powerful clan would be completely destroyed within just a few decades.
Like Konoha Village, Kirigakure was also newly established, and the entire village was undergoing massive construction. Given the current era of peace and the recent conclusion of the Five Kage Summit, the village's defenses were incomplete, and vigilance was at a historic low.
Chu Yang easily slipped in.
The Kaguya clan's position in Kirigakure was somewhat akin to that of the Uchiha clan in Konoha—strong, revered, but also deeply feared. As a result, their clan's settlement was located far from the village center, and their interactions with the villagers of Kirigakure were minimal, making them quite isolated. This situation, however, played well into Chu Yang's plans.
So, on a dark and windy night, Chu Yang quietly used a sleep-inducing curse to knock out several members of the Kaguya clan and transported them to the outskirts of Kirigakure. There, he drew blood from each of them.
By the next day, when the Kaguya members awoke, their faces were deathly pale, and they were physically weakened. Upon examination, they were diagnosed with a deficiency of vital energy and blood.
Disappearing from their homes without explanation, then mysteriously suffering from blood loss—such strange occurrences led to rumors of vampires spreading through Kirigakure like wildfire. Amid the ensuing panic, Chu Yang had already departed.
His next stop was Kumogakure.
The two brothers, Kinkaku and Ginkaku, were still children at this time, only slightly older than Hiruzen Sarutobi and his peers. When the brothers were out playing, Chu Yang knocked them unconscious with a club and drew their blood, one by one.
The thought that these two would one day be responsible for the death of Tobirama Senju made Chu Yang lose his restraint, extracting several more liters of blood than necessary.
