Siblings with No Life Get Summoned to Another World as Detectives

Chapter 52: Kitsuna (Part 1)

There, standing before Kai among the shattered columns and broken walls, was someone he had thought he'd never see again. The sunlight glinted off her hair, and her eyes locked onto his. Right there, in the flesh, was Kitsuna.

"Hi…" she whispered, her voice trembling slightly. Her brows furrowed just a little, caught between surprise and confusion.

Kai hesitated for a moment, his eyes fixed on her as though he were making sure she was real. Slowly, almost awkwardly, he lifted his hand. "Hi…" he echoed, forcing a small wave.

Kitsuna blinked a few times. "Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked.

"We… we didn't think we'd ever see you again," Mei admitted, looking her in the eyes.

Kitsuna tilted her head slightly, her expression caught somewhere between suspicion and genuine confusion. "Why?" she asked.

Brother and sister exchanged a silent glance, an entire conversation flashing between them in that single moment — hesitation, fear, hope.

Finally, Kai drew in a breath. "Kitsuna… do you remember anything that happened before… today?"

"Yes… Yesterday we were at school… and today we're supposed to go to the library…" Kitsuna murmured, her voice wavering as if she were clinging to a dream that didn't quite make sense.

Kai raised a hand to the back of his head, fingers ruffling his hair in relief. "Looks like she doesn't remember anything… not even me kicking her into that strange blue liquid…"

Mei folded her arms, one hand drifting up to her chin as her eyes narrowed in thought. "But how did she survive?" she wondered.

"So… where are you headed?" Kitsuna asked, pulling them out of their thoughts. Her eyes, still clouded with confusion, now held a spark of interest.

Kai let out a small sigh and lowered his hand from the back of his head. "To the ruins of the White House… That's where we found the secret room…"

Kitsuna's gaze sharpened slightly, her lips parting with quiet determination. "Can I come with you?" she asked.

Mei pulled her hand back for a moment, a sly smirk playing on her lips. "Of course… if… you let me pet those ears of yours!" she teased, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

Kitsuna blinked, then gave a small, almost shy nod. "Of course," she replied, her voice soft.

Without wasting a second, Mei reached out and gently cupped Kitsuna's fluffy orange fox ears, running her fingers through the soft fur.

The moment her touch landed, Kitsuna's body relaxed, a low, contented sound bubbling up from her throat.

"Prrrrrrrrrrrrrr…" Kitsuna purred, her eyes closing in bliss as the gentle strokes sent tiny shivers down her spine.

Brother, sister, and Kitsuna headed into the White House. They walked only on the steps that looked safe. They climbed to the floor where half the ground was missing and entered Vorenhart's office.

But there was one problem.

"The candlesticks are completely destroyed, what do we do now?" Kai asked, looking at his sister.

"Should we… break down the door…?" Kitsuna asked, her voice hesitant.

Kai tilted his head, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Well… that would work," he said slowly, "but… with what?"

Mei's eyes narrowed, a fiery grin spreading across her face. "With fists!" she shouted, her voice ringing with excitement.

In an instant, her hands ignited in bright red flames, the heat radiating around her and casting flickering shadows on the walls.

"I don't want you to get hurt…" Kai said, his voice calm but concerned, eyes flicking to Mei's fists ignited in red flames.

Mei spun her head away, cheeks flaring a bright pink as she muttered, voice sharp but defensive, "I-It's just wood… I will be fine!" Her hands clenched tighter.

Kitsuna tilted her head, innocently curious. "We could use a Power Ball!" she suggested, hopeful.

"Power Ball?" Kai asked, his brow furrowing in confusion.

Mei held her hands out in front of her, shaping an invisible sphere. "You know… those balls that were all over Yuki's room," she explained.

Kai's eyes lit up with realization, and he leaned slightly closer. "Ah… okay. But… where do we get one of those?" he asked.

"I have one," Kitsuna said, reaching into her pocket and carefully pulling out a small, smooth Power Ball. She held it up for them to see, her voice rising slightly with pride. "Here!"

Kai's eyes widened a little as he leaned closer, inspecting the mysterious object. "What… what does it do?" he asked.

Kitsuna met his gaze directly, her expression steady and confident. "It explodes," she said.

The three of them quickly stepped back, eyes wide as Kitsuna clenched the small Power Ball in her hand.

With a swift, determined motion, she swung her arm and hurled it toward the bookshelf. The moment it struck, a bright flash erupted, followed by a deafening boom.

The Power Ball detonated instantly, shattering the wood into splinters and sending papers and fragments flying in every direction. The force rattled the floor beneath their feet, and the room was filled with a cloud of smoke and dust.

When the haze finally began to settle, their eyes fell on the space where the shelf had once stood.

They stepped closer to the darkened passage. As they drew near, Kai and Mei exchanged a glance, both immediately recognizing the structure before them. It wasn't just a passage — it was an elevator. Kitsuna, however, stared at it curiously, the word 'elevator' meaningless to her.

"Let's go down…" Kai said, his eyes scanning the edges of the platform. He assumed that this was the path they needed to take.

Kitsuna tilted her head, still trying to understand. "How?" she asked.

The siblings stepped into the elevator first, the faint hum of the machinery greeting them as Mei waved a hand. "Just step in," she said, her tone calm but encouraging.

Kitsuna hesitated for a moment, eyes wide as she surveyed the small space, then slowly obeyed. Now all three of them were enclosed within the metallic box.

Kai reached out and pressed a button, and with a soft mechanical whir, the elevator began to descend.

"What is this?" Kitsuna asked, her voice trembling slightly. She looked from Kai to Mei, seeking answers, but the siblings exchanged a silent glance and ignored her question.

After about a minute, the elevator landed with a soft thud. The doors opened, revealing a vast chamber, its lights flickering on all at once.

The air smelled of dust, and cobwebs covered every corner.

Kai stepped forward carefully, scanning the room. The floor was littered with papers, scraps of clothing, even odd bits of metal.

They looked around, then unconsciously split up, each searching their own side of the room for anything of interest.

Kitsuna went all the way to the wall and started checking the floor. She moved a few things aside and then noticed something black. After shifting a few more items, she pulled out a talisman. It was black, and a strange energy swirled around it.

She picked it up and smiled. "You're done for now," she said, then put the talisman around her neck. A powerful energy surged through her.

⬛ ⬛ ⬛

Far away, deep within the twisted expanse of the Dream Realm, a colossal black castle loomed. Thick, choking smoke poured from its jagged spires. Shadows slithered along the walls, shifting unnaturally.

At the very center, on a throne carved sat a Shadow far taller and more terrifying than any other. Her black crown jutted sharply from her head, jagged and cruel, and her presence radiated an icy malice that made the air itself tremble.

"Yes…" she hissed, her voice like grinding steel, echoing through the halls. "My child has finally taken what she deserves!" A chilling, hollow laugh followed, reverberating through the darkness, as though it were coming from everywhere and nowhere at once.

Suddenly, she clenched her fists, dark energy coiling around her. The shadows writhed and screamed in silence, drawn to her fury. "I'll give you just a fragment of my power!" she growled.

⬛ ⬛ ⬛

The talisman hanging around Kitsuna's neck darkened suddenly, filling with energy. Sparks of shadowy light arced across her skin, and her body convulsed as power surged through her.

Her eyes blazed, wide and wild, and she let out a roar that echoed through the chamber. "Yes… Yes… Give me everything!" she shouted, her voice raw with both fear and exhilaration, as if trying to contain a force far greater than herself.

Meanwhile, the siblings regrouped a few steps away. Kai's gaze swept over the debris. "Did you find anything?" he asked, voice laced with hope.

Mei, shaking her head slowly, let out a small sigh. "No…" she admitted softly, the words carrying the weight of disappointment.

Suddenly, a deafening flap of wings echoed through the chamber, reverberating off the walls and sending loose papers and dust skittering across the floor. Kai and Mei whipped their heads around, startled, hearts pounding.

Above them, suspended in the air and nearly brushing the ceiling, Kitsuna hovered.

Her body was enveloped in a cascade of golden wings, each feather glowing with a radiant, almost blinding light, completely opposite of the dark, sinister powers of the talisman.

Her wings unfurled fully, each feather catching the light and casting a warm yet unnerving glow that danced across the chamber walls. The illumination was almost alive, flickering in tandem with the power radiating from her.

Crimson markings snaked outward from her eyes, streaking across her cheeks like molten veins, giving her a fearsome, almost predatory appearance.

When she opened her mouth, her teeth had sharpened into glinting points, lending her the visage of a majestic, dangerous beast.

Even her attire had transformed. The ordinary school uniform she had worn moments before had melted away, replaced by a flowing ceremonial gown of radiant gold.

It shimmered with every movement, intricate patterns glowing faintly along the fabric, enhancing her ethereal, commanding presence.

The change made her look both divine and terrifying, a force to be reckoned with in the very air around her.

Above her head, a glowing golden halo floated gracefully, spinning slowly and casting additional light onto her already radiant form.

It gave her an almost celestial aura, as if the power she now wielded was not only immense but sacred, completing the transformation into something both awe-inspiring and utterly formidable.

"…Fuck," Mei muttered.
