Chapter 41: Elmyra (PART 1)
Kai and Mei sat on the cold, dusty floor of the now-empty room. "Do you feel a little better now?" Mei asked, turning her head toward her brother.
Kai didn't answer right away. His gaze was fixed on the floor. At last, he mumbled, barely audible: "We're alone… completely alone…"
Mei lowered her eyes, feeling the weight of every word. Silence stretched between them until Kai continued, his voice trembling between bitterness and resignation: "Betrayed. Abandoned. Squandered. Forsaken…"
"I never really considered them friends," Mei admitted softly, though her voice carried traces of pain. "But still… I feel bad."
"Deserted, cut off, left behind, neglected…"
Mei stood up and, without wasting time on words of comfort, began dragging her brother across the floor. Kai's body was limp, lifeless, though half-whispered murmurs still spilled from his lips.
She laid him down on the damp grass. Kai stared at the sky, his eyes empty, and his words grew darker and deeper: "Ignored… overlooked… discarded…"
Mei shivered, but she didn't listen to him anymore. She no longer had the strength to react to his confessions. Instead, her gaze drifted into the distance. "It looks like the world is going to die…" she whispered.
And then — she noticed something. A silhouette. A small figure moving among the ruins of the city. The body was thin, fragile. Mei narrowed her eyes. "Is that… a little girl?" she whispered, and then a smile crept onto her lips. "Well… I am hungry."
She turned to her brother, who still didn't react, trapped in his mantra. She leaned close to his ear. "Stay here… I'm going to get us dinner," she whispered.
Mei walked toward the girl. "Hey!" she called out, but the girl didn't turn. "I've got free candy!" she shouted again, but still, the girl didn't react.
Mei ran and caught up with her, but the figure ahead didn't move. She didn't even flinch. When Mei reached her, she stopped right behind her, breath short, eyes scanning the frail little body with suspicion.
"I'm talking to you… Are you deaf?" Mei asked, staring at the little girl.
Mei clenched her jaw and raised her hand. SMACK! — red flames flared through her palm, lighting up the girl. She meant to slap her across the face.
But before Mei could complete the swing, the girl moved her hand — slowly, almost lazily — and stopped it midair. She didn't even look at her. She just held her there.
Mei's eyes widened. "What…?"
She tried to pull her hand back. She tried with strength, then with magic, but the red flames sputtered and reignited in vain, while the girl's grip remained cold and unyielding.
"Let go of me!" Mei shouted, her voice breaking between panic and rage.
"If you leave me al—" the girl began, but then she lifted her head. Her eyes met Mei's. The gaze was so direct that Mei froze on the spot.
The girl paused, then whispered, almost inaudibly: "Kagami…"
Mei's heart skipped a beat. "Huh? How do you know my last name?" she asked sharply, finally yanking her hand free, her breathing a little uneven.
The girl slowly stretched out her small hand toward her. A smile spread across her face — far too wide for such a small child. "I'm Elmyra… nice to meet you."
Mei hesitated for a moment, but instinct prevailed. She shook her hand. "Looks like… no dinner for me," she muttered under her breath, hiding the thought behind a half-smile.

Yuki and Vorenhart were in an old room. The walls were full of cracks, gray dust crumbling down, and the floor was covered with worn-out planks that creaked at every step. Candles were scattered across the ground, their flames flickering. At the very center, a strange symbol had been drawn in blood, the metallic scent still lingering in the air.
Vorenhart stood by the circle, eyes shining with excitement as he raised his hands.
"Yuki, are you ready? Tonight, at the stroke of midnight… I shall summon the Calamities!" he declared, his voice echoing against the walls.
Yuki watched the scene coldly, without much emotion. A faint smile appeared at the corner of his lips, more mocking than friendly. He gave a slight nod. "Sorry… but I won't be here to see it happen. At that time, I need to be with the organization," he said quietly.
Vorenhart turned to him, momentarily stunned by the reply, then twisted his face into a self-assured grin.
"You know… I can give you far more than they ever could. Gold, power, freedom… anything you desire."
But Yuki shook his head. There was no hesitation in his eyes. "I wouldn't sell them out for anything."
At those words, Vorenhart's expression shifted. His lips curled into a grimace, his brows furrowed slightly, and his gaze darkened for an instant. Yet, he said nothing.

Elmyra and Mei returned to where Kai was lying. His body was still sprawled on the grass, eyes fixed on the void.
"This is my brother!" Mei said proudly. She crouched beside him and gently nudged him with her elbow. "Isn't he cute? He is mine... Don't even try to steal him!"
Kai didn't move. His gaze remained glued to the ground.
Elmyra tilted her head to the side, studying him. "What… is wrong with him?"
Mei shrugged, her voice calm but icy. "Yeah... he died half an hour ago."
Elmyra blinked once, twice. "Uh huh…" she nodded, accepting the explanation. But then she paused and thought for a moment. Her face stiffened, eyes widening. "Wait… what?!"
"Bro… bro…" Mei began shaking him, but Kai didn't wake from his trance. His body was there, but his eyes were far away, trapped in his own thoughts.
Mei leaned close to his ear. Her lips barely moved as she whispered, "…Loli."
Kai's eyes suddenly cleared. As if someone had flipped a switch. He lifted his head and desperately scanned the surroundings, his gaze darting in every direction. When his eyes landed on Elmyra, instinct took over — he lunged at her without thinking.
But Elmyra just rolled her eyes, lifted her staff, and smacked him right on the head. Kai flew to the side and collapsed onto the grass.
"Owww…" he muttered, clutching his head.
Elmyra lowered the staff and stepped toward them. Her face was calm, but her gaze was serious.
"Here's the thing…" she began slowly. "I need your help."
The brother and sister looked at her simultaneously — Kai still holding his head, and Mei with a half-smile. Their eyes sparkled with curiosity.
"I want to stop Vorenhart from summoning the Calamities…" Elmyra said firmly, gripping her staff with both hands. There wasn't a hint of doubt in her voice.
Kai pushed himself up from the grass, still rubbing his head. He looked her over from head to toe and raised an eyebrow. "How do you plan to do that…? Look at how small you are!" he said mockingly, stretching his smile.
Elmyra didn't even blink. Without changing her expression, she raised her staff above her head, stepped forward, and proudly declared:
"I am the mighty Elmyra, the unrivaled Goddess of the Elves, whose power and glory surpass all who dare to stand in my presence!"
A brief silence followed. Kai and Mei exchanged glances, and in that moment, they couldn't hold it in any longer.
First, a short "pfff—" escaped Mei, then Kai burst into loud laughter. Within seconds, both were laughing uncontrollably, clutching their stomachs.
"Goddess… you're smaller than an average kid!" Kai shouted, laughter erupting from his belly as he held his stomach, trying to contain his convulsing giggles.
"You are just a kid!" Mei shouted, her voice echoing, slightly trembling from laughter.
Elmyra groaned and turned her back on them, clearly offended, lips pressed into a thin line. "Just you wait!" she yelled, her voice now piercing and full of anger. "I'll cook up such a brilliant plan that you'll be kissing the ground I walk on."
She strutted forward, every step dripping with confidence, as if the ground itself should bow beneath her. But fate, with a wicked sense of humor, had other plans. Her long, silky hair — her pride and glory — snaked around her leg. In an instant, Elmyra felt the cruel tug of gravity betray her. She stumbled, arms flailing, and then the world tilted violently.
She crashed onto the grass with a dramatic thud, her staff clattering far away as if mocking her. Her cheeks burned, not just from the sting of the fall, but from the sharp bite of humiliation.
The brother and sister froze for a moment, eyes wide. Then… boom! Laughter erupted again.
"Hahaha! Look at her!" Kai shouted, clutching his stomach and rolling on the grass.
"Oh god… I can't breathe!" Mei cried with laughter, hands trying to wipe away tears.
Elmyra slowly lifted her head, her face red, hair flying in all directions. She looked at the brother and sister and muttered through gritted teeth: "Just wait… one day you'll regret this… and by then it'll be too late…"
