Saving The Six Realms By Starting A Romance

Chapter 2 - The Sheep That Got Fleeced Twice

Jiang Ran sighed softly, resting her head on her hand, which was propped up on the stone table. She looked up at the sky, filled with glowing clouds, and felt a deep, vast presence, one that was harmonious, ethereal, and seemed steadfast and eternal. This was the presence of the Heavenly Dao.

“Hey, aren’t you going to explain yourself?” she asked, her eyes narrowing. What happened to a peaceful retirement? Why had she been pulled back?

That’s right—she was back!

Although this Immortal Realm seemed unfamiliar, Jiang Ran was certain it was the same world she had once traversed. Back then, she had transmigrated as “Ranzheng” through a soul transfer, and now she had physically traveled here.

In that previous era, this place was far from the tranquil and harmonious land it appeared to be now. It had been a realm where demons ran rampant, and the Heavenly Dao was collapsing, on the verge of complete destruction.

At that time, not only the human world but the entire Six Realms were nearly hellish. Helpless mortals were almost extinct, and so-called righteous immortals were akin to street rats. There was nothing of the splendid scene before her now.

Back then, she had been inexplicably dragged into this world, encountering the nearly dissipating Heavenly Dao first. It had uttered a single sentence: “Rebuild the Heavenly Dao, and you can go home,” and then disappeared completely.

The body she had then transmigrated into was that of an ordinary person, so weak that any demon could easily crush her. She had no choice but to hide and avoid the demons’ harm while growing stronger. During that time, she dreamed every night of going home. She had transformed from a delicate girl who would cry for half a day over a scratch into a warrior who could take seven or eight slashes and still fight back!

After gaining some self-defense capabilities, it took her thousands of years to gradually rise to power. She never expected that she would eventually cleanse the Six Realms of demons and pull this chaotic world back from the brink. She couldn’t even count the hardships she had endured during that time.

So, when she sensed the Heavenly Dao was whole again, she unhesitatingly chose to return home, prepared to forget everything about this world and live a peaceful, retired life.

Who knew that just five years later, only five years, she would be dragged back again.

What the hell?

“Don’t pretend you can’t hear me—speak!” Jiang Ran continued to glare at the sky. She didn’t buy the cross-realm array explanation at all. If traveling between worlds was this easy, she would have gone back long ago and wouldn’t have needed to painstakingly restore the Heavenly Dao for so many years. Even her return back then had required a desperate measure.

Now, being casually pulled over by an array—who would believe that the Heavenly Dao wasn’t involved?

The fact that she hadn’t immediately exposed the Heavenly Dao’s deceit was already a sign of respect.

Sensing her genuine anger, a serene yet emotionless voice echoed in her mind.

“Reward.”

Two simple words, as concise as ever.

Jiang Ran’s face darkened. She felt an urge to punch the Heavenly Dao. “Are you sure this is a reward and not a punishment?”

She had just settled back into a peaceful life, and now she was being dragged back into this nightmare. How was that a reward?

Was this because of what she did before leaving this world? That last desperate act?

But she had no choice back then.

The Heavenly Dao couldn’t be that petty, right?

Jiang Ran tried to reason with it, hoping to be sent back. But no matter how she pleaded, all she got in response was a few more beams of light from the sky, stinging her eyes. The Heavenly Dao remained silent, as if that brief response had been her imagination.

She had no choice but to give up. After all, she was just an ordinary person now, no longer the warrior who had fought demons and deities alike.

Forget it!

Since the Heavenly Dao had decided to play dead, there was no point in pressing further. Instead, she thought about checking out the so-called cross-realm array later to see if there was any way to reverse it.

As she was pondering this, Qingjue returned, looking delighted. She informed Jiang Ran that the Heavenly Emperor wanted to see her immediately and was ready to take her to the Shangqing Hall.

Jiang Ran was lifted on clouds, flying towards the Immortal Palace. Just as they were about to leave the palace, the Heavenly Dao, which had been playing dead, spoke again in her mind. The voice, though emotionless, carried a hint of concern.

“Your world—was it good?”

Jiang Ran froze for a moment, her mind blank. A sense of confusion washed over her, and she didn’t know how to respond.

Good or not…

Perhaps it wasn’t good. After surviving thousands of years of struggle in this world, though the time flow was different, a decade had passed when she returned. She had spent ten years in a coma, and when she woke up, her cherished friends were gone, and her beloved family had passed away two years prior. She felt abandoned by the world, a place she had longed for but found so unfamiliar upon her return. She had to undergo daily rehabilitation and saw a therapist for a long time to adjust.

Sometimes she even joked bitterly that she was lucky to have only had her grandparents as close relatives, and after they passed, they left everything to her. Otherwise, she might not have survived until she woke up.

But despite all that, she still longed for her world—a peaceful, stable world where everyone was equal, without so many conflicts and wars.

If she could live a good life, who would want to face constant battles?

So, she really didn’t want to transmigrate again!

Last time, the Heavenly Dao had tricked her miserably, and who knew what traps awaited her this time?

“Your Highness, the Shangqing Hall is just ahead!” Qingjue pointed to the largest palace in front of them. “This is the only upper hall in the Immortal Realm, the place where all the Immortal Lords meet. Normally, we little immortals aren’t allowed here. It shows how much the Emperor values you.”

Jiang Ran snapped out of her thoughts and looked up. She saw a grand golden hall standing atop layers of white jade steps. The hall was surrounded by dazzling light, like a blazing sun turning everything golden. The hall was majestic and solemn, with a faint hint of the world’s authority.

However, suspended above the hall was a gigantic white sword. The sword, as large as a mountain, was even bigger than the Shangqing Hall itself. Its tip pointed downwards, as if it could pierce through the hall at any moment, adding a touch of solemnity to the already imposing Immortal Hall.

Jiang Ran stared at the sword, stunned.

“That is…”
