Saving A Mermaid to Become My Love

Chapter 6: Spending the Night with Humans

“What kind of food is this?” Carla started to ask Henry, she turned her gaze to the man next to her.

“Food, of course. I made lemon grilled tuna for dinner for the two of us. I'm sure you like it, but if it doesn't taste good then just forgive me,” Henry said, he told Carla the name of the food he had made.

Carla nodded, understanding. Even though she doubted how the food Henry made would taste, she tried to understand Henry's words.

“So, instead of just looking at it, it's better if we eat together,” Henry said, he quickly sat next to Carla.

Carla smiled awkwardly after hearing Henry's words. Not long after, she nodded and lowered her gaze to the food in front of her.

Henry decided to immediately eat the cooked food in front of him. Without waiting for Carla, Henry ate it with great pleasure. He was used to cooking his own food to eat. But not Carla, she doubted Henry's cooking.

Carla's attention was focused on Henry who was goging eating the food he cooked himself. Carla could only shake her head, to be patient. Carla finally felt that the food given to her should just be eaten. Until she started moving her hands to put a mouthful of food into her mouth and chew the food.

Tuna fish meat that is cooked by grilling makes it a little different. Especially with lemon juice which makes the taste of the tuna meat even more sour and sweet. But before Carla had swallowed the food that Henry had cooked, she had already stood up and ran to the sink to vomit it out.

Henry realized Carla's actions, and suddenly he frowned. Henry was a little surprised by Carla's actions. His forehead furrowed quite deeply, his gaze looked suspiciously at Carla.

Henry was worried about Carla's condition, he decided to stand up and follow Carla behind her. Henry stood watching Carla who was wiping her mouth with water flowing from the faucet.

“What's wrong with you? Is the food so bad that you spit it out,” Henry said, he asked Carla.

With her stomach churning, Carla tried to calm herself. She took a deep breath before finally turning to look at Henry.

“What do you say? You cooked fish meat to give me,” said Carla, she suppressed her voice because her throat felt so sore.

“Yes, tuna meat. What is wrong with it? Are you allergic, this is ordinary fish meat. Tuna is usually cooked, have you never eaten seafood?” Henry said, he was confused by what Carla said.

Carla could only exhale in resignation. She leaned her body against the kitchen table. Carla never thought that Henry would have the heart to give her sea fish as food.

“I will never eat seafood in my diet. Even if I eat fish meat like tuna, I won't do it,” said Carla, her eyes filled with tears when she said that to Henry.

“What made you become like this? What's with food from the sea, I thought you liked it too. I didn't know that even this small amount of food could put us in a situation like this,” Henry said, he didn't understand what Carla meant.

“The fish are my friends in the ocean. Where I live, we always swim and play together. I didn't think that humans could eat food made from the flesh of our friends,” Carla said, she tried to explain what she meant to Henry.

“Are they your friends? I can't believe that a mermaid like you would be friends with sea animals like that. It's just a fish, not a mermaid like you,” Henry said, he didn't understand the complexity of Carla's life before with him.

“I can't eat them. This is the same as me eating the flesh of what has become my friend. In the sea, we live side by side, we can't eat each other,” said Carla, she swallowed hard and wiped the tears that were already filling her eyes.

Henry could only let out a long sigh. He never thought it would be this complicated to live with a young mermaid like Carla. Henry never imagined that living in the same house with creature from the sea would be this strange.

In the end, Henry could only look at Carla patiently. He tried to understand Carla's situation. Henry tried to understand what Carla had said to him, until he decided to just give in.

“Okay, okay. My mistake. I didn't know that you couldn't eat food from sea creatures. So now, what can I cook for you? So that you can eat with me,” Henry said, he approached Carla so she could calm down a little.

“If I ask for something, will it be there? Can you cook it for me?” Carla said, she questioned Henry's abilities.

“I'll try. If you want it, I'll make sure it's there. That way, you won't be hungry tonight,” Henry said, he was still patient to deal with Carla's behavior.

“You just cook me seaweed. I don't think there's anything wrong with just eating seaweed and seagrass. I will eat dishes with lemon like that,” said Carla, she answered Henry's words simply.

“That is it? If it's just seaweed and seagrass, I have it. In a place near the beach like this, anyone would have plenty of seafood to spare,” Henry said, he frowned.

Even though he was a little hesitant, Henry finally turned around. He took out the ingredients and cooking utensils. Henry returned to cooking food for Carla. He hoped that this time the young mermaid would not vomit out the food he had cooked.

Three minutes later, Henry's cooking was finally cooked. He served it to Carla. Suddenly Carla accepted it happily. Henry looked at Carla with a doubtful gaze. He was worried that Carla would refuse to eat the food he had cooked.

“Thank You. I think I will like this dish. I didn't expect that you could still have the patience to treat me well,” said Carla, she curved her lips slightly to form a smile.

“Does not matter. Don't thank me, I'm happy if I can make you like the food I make,” said Henry, he spread a smile on his lips.
