Chapter 5: The Attention from A Man
Carla's blue eyes looked at Henry's face. All Carla could see was the innocence shining in Henry's eyes. It seemed like the human in front of her didn't have any desires for her. Carla doubted, even though in her mind she was hesitant to believe there was a man as good as Henry in the human world.
Even though Carla's eyes met Henry's, still not a word came out from either of them. Until Henry spread a smile across his lips and lowered his head. Carla frowned, especially when Henry straightened his gaze again to look at Carla.
“What's matter? I care about you because I think you need help. Is there something wrong if I care about you?” Henry said, he curled his lips into a smile.
Carla quickly shook her head. Her gaze was stunned at Henry's determination to help her. Carla had never seen how sincere the feelings radiated in the twinkling of human eyes. Especially strangers he had just met, like Henry.
“There's nothing wrong with you caring. I'm really impressed that you want to help me. But unfortunately, I have never found a sincere human figure like you, this is what makes me surprised,” Carla said, she expressed what was on her mind.
Henry grinned, a moment later he laughed a little. Henry didn't expect Carla's innocent words to make him laugh. But it didn't last long, Henry ended his laughter. Now his gaze was focused straight on Carla.
“Not all humans are heartless. Some of them also have sincere feelings, they could help people they meet,” Henry said, he gave Carla an explanation.
Carla was silent, she was stunned for a while. Her blue eyes were fixed on Henry who was now showing a smile on his lips. Even though she looked impressed, Carla didn't want to take Henry too seriously.
“So, don't be prejudiced against people. Maybe it's true that not everyone you just meet can be good to you. But I could be different, I care about you,” Henry said, he continued his words just to give Carla advice.
“Honestly, I don't really trust humans. Moreover, the underwater world agrees that humans are the most heartless creatures among all creatures on this earth,” Carla said, she showed honestly what she had gained so far.
“Who said that? Not all humans are the same. But if you don't believe me, then that's up to you,” Henry said, he spoke those words with resignation.
“Almost all underwater creatures agree with that assumption. That humans are the most greedy creatures and cannot mix with nature and other living creatures,” said Carla, she still stood firm on her stance.
“But never mind, what you think is up to you. It's none of my business and I won't force you to believe my words. So are you hungry?” said Henry, he took a breath at the end of his words.
Carla stopped talking, she covered her mouth when she heard Henry's words. Carla didn't expect that Henry would be so willing to say the words he said. Especially after Carla heard Henry's question asking whether his stomach was full or not.
Of course Carla blinked, her lips closing even tighter. She took a breath, but didn't immediately react to Henry's question.
“If you're hungry, tonight let's go to the kitchen. I have some food we can eat,” Henry said, he added an explanation to his words.
“No problem, let's go downstairs,” Carla said, she agreed to Henry's invitation.
Henry nodded, then stood up. He walked first down the stairs. Carla saw Henry who had come down the stairs, so she stood up and hurried after Henry. Now they are downstairs.
Henry stopped in his tracks, just to check on Carla's condition who was behind him. Henry noticed Carla who was standing still some distance behind him.
“So, I'm confused about what food I can cook for you? I don't know your taste. Moreover, you are not from the human race,” Henry said, he was confused when choosing the best food for Carla.
“You just cook what you can. I don't mind eating your food. I'll try to like what you give me,” Carla said, she responded to Henry's question.
“Will you like it? I doubt. Because my cooking is not good enough to give to other people,” Henry said, he gave an answer to Carla's words.
Carla continued her steps, she walked closer to Henry. Now both of them are in the same position. Carla stopped walking and faced Henry. Their eyes met, even though Carla still felt a little distant from Henry.
“So what do you usually cook? You just give me what you can. I'll eat it,” said Carla, she gave a simple answer to Henry's words.
“Fine, if that's what you want. I'll start cooking food for the two of us,” said Henry, he started to turn his body to face Carla.
After watching Henry busy cooking, Carla now chose to divert his attention. He chose to walk towards the bar stool near the kitchen table. Carla decided to sit there while waiting for the food cooked by Henry to be cooked.
Seven minutes later, Carla could smell the aroma of the food Henry was making. The aroma is so fragrant and tastes delicious. Carla felt that her stomach was hungry, even though when she was a mermaid in the ocean she could not eat for a whole day.
Now Carla looked at Henry who was busy cooking the food he made. Even though in Carla's eyes all that could be seen was Henry's back, she was sure that the man in front of her was cooking with all his heart.
Not long after, Henry turned around. He carried two plates of food in both hands. Henry walked over to Carla and placed the two plates of food he was carrying on the kitchen table.
Carla could see the food on the plate. The delicious aroma wafted so clearly into Carla's nose. But she didn't know how to praise the aroma of the food Henry cooked. Carla chose to remain silent and only pay attention to the food placed in front of her.
