Rise of the Omnimage

Chapter 3 - Taking a ride on the Ativan

"Lady Ekart, the final team is on its way in from dealing with the hydra outbreak. The incoming reports are saying they were a particularly nasty type. It was more of a smog spewing nest of the creatures rather than the usual bite and spit with the toxic blood." An assistant healer said looking down at a tablet she was reading from.

"Do we have next batch of antidotes ready?" Brittanie said as she looked over and sent her healing aether into the final member from the team, fixing the conventional injures from fighting monsters.

"Yes ma'am. They are being brought up as we speak." The assistant said.

"Good. Let me know when that team arrives and are given the antidotes as needed. I'm headed to make my rounds to check on the other healers."

Brittanie headed down the hall checking the status outside of patient rooms and seeing that everything was in order. Nothing needed her attention and she had helped where she was able.

She went into her office to sit down and take a breather.

"Hey mom!" Came a familiar voice that warmed her.

"Hey! How was the guild?" She asked.

"Not too bad. I had hoped Uncle Mitch was going to show, but they played a video of him instead." Ky said.

"Is it still the same video where he goes off script a couple of times? Brittanie asked sitting at her desk.

"Oh, so you have seen it?" Ky said laughing.

Brittanie just laughed shaking her head.

*Beep! Beep! Beep!*

Brittanie's pager went off. She looked down at it, then out one of her windows as there was some crashing and shouting.

Brittanie rushed out and saw an adventurer with his eyes rolling and arms swinging while on fire as this adventurer clearly had a fire path.

He was about to crash through another patient room when Brittanie threw out a hand flashing one of her skills, Celestial shield, and a golden barrier blocked the trajectory of the man as the orderly team worked to safely bring him down.

They tackled him to the floor but couldn't hold him as the flames burned hotter and began to spread from his arms. It was beginning to burn things around the emergency room. Brittanie flashed more shields over the flames and smothered them out.

Moving quickly to a medicine cabinet. Brittanie pulled a drawer and grabbed a pre-loaded syringe. She pinned the adventurer down and injected him or tried to. The moment the needle went into his flesh it melted the plastic and evaporated the fluid.

"These cases are the absolute worst!" Brittanie exclaimed annoyed with the predicament she found herself.

Brittanie continued to hold down the squirming adventurer. It wasn't that hard for her due to her much higher tier of power, but she couldn't effectively treat him. She furrowed her brow letting the dots connect as she saw Kyrain in the corner of her eye.

"Ky! I know you are an initiate in the first week, but can you help me with this one?"

"Mom, I'm not allowed to take jobs until next week." Kyrain said walking forward.

"It's fine, I will deal with it all."

Nodding, Ky knelt down quickly beside his mother and placed his hand on the man's stomach in order to keep his spellbreaker skills from hitting anyone that was close. He then activated two skills.

Aether sense and Aether Nullification. Through his sense he could see the bonds of aether holding the skill of the man in front of him together. He pushed his anti-aether, as he had called it, as soon as his skill made contact with the man's skill structure it broke causing the fire to immediately die out.

Brittanie was given another syringe, and she injected it immediately after the flames were snuffed out as she had hoped. The medication hit the system and after a half a minute more, he relaxed as did everyone else in the room.

She let the other healers come in with the orderlies to take the man to a room to continue treatment for the psychosis venom that sometimes is used by the monsters causing someone to completely lose it.

She turned to Kyrain. "Feel like putting in your first day early as an initiate?"

Kyrain smiled at his mom and nodded. "That was cool! I want to help more."

- The next day -

Kyrain, Tobias, and Sebastian walked through the doors of the guild hall to continue the initiating process.

"Mr. Kyrain Ekart, if you would follow me, please." A man in a guild hall uniform said. Sorin nodded nervously while glancing at his cousins who all had curious looks.

"What did you do this time Ky?" Tobias asked. Ky had an idea what it was about, but his mom said she would handle it.

He was led to a door that said, "Floor manager." The man in the uniform opened the door and gestured for him to enter.

Once inside Ky saw screens across both sides of the office, with a desk on the other side. It was rather spacious in spite of so much happening.

"Please take a seat, I'll be with you in a moment." A man said who was sitting on the other side of the desk. Doing as he was told, he crossed the room and sat in one of two chairs in front of the desk. He began to fidget nervously while he waited for the man to finish typing something. With a final few clicks of a mouse the man closed the laptop and looked at Kyrain.

He flicked his hand, and a file zipped across the room into his hand. He opened it and breathed out his nose then spoke.

"My name is Matt Hogan, I am the Senior floor manager of this guild, and it has come to my attention that you, as an initiate in the first week right after you were informed that you were not authorized to take jobs, have in fact, taken a job at the hospital."

Kyrain spoke up. "Yes Sir, I was told that the guild would be notified, and everything would be taken care of as I did not go looking for the job."

"Who was the one that told you that?" Matt asked. "It was my mother, Brittanie Ekart. She had a problem with someone on psychosis venom and she had me use my path to help limit patients so she could better treat them." Ky said.

"We have received no communication of the sort from either the hospital or Mrs. Ekart on your behalf."

Kyrain forcefully ran his hands through his hair. "I have my mother's number. You can use it to see that she did ask for my help."

He could feel the frustration and discomfort of the situation starting to head toward his eyes in the form of tears as he pushed his phone with his mom's number over to the manager; who pulled his own phone up and began dialing and placing it on speaker for transparency. After a couple rings he heard his mom's voice.

"Hello."

"Good morning, this is Matt Hogan with the Adventurers guild. We have Kyrain Ekart in my office for violation of the Initiate guidelines. He claims that you solicited his help at the hospital. You are on speakerphone ma'am."

"Shit! I completely forgot to call you guys yesterday. Yes, I asked for his help as he has particular set of skills that helped us effectively treat a lot of patience yesterday." Brittanie said.

"That being the case, you were fully aware of his status of initiate within the first week and not authorized to accept any jobs?" Matt replied.

"I was and still asked of his help. I accept any penalties on his behalf. My thing is, the benefit he provided to the hospital was worth it." She replied.

"I understand your feelings ma'am, but there are rules for a reason and as such there is a fine imposed of five b cores."

There was a pause on the other side as a conversation in the hospital took place.

"Im sorry about that. Im currently working. Yes, that's fine. Please deduct the penalty from my guild account." Brittanie said.

"Very well, we would impress on you that you remember the guild rules and set the example for initiates as a Silver rank adventurer. That being said, no job was posted so a review form was not sent to you for the initiate. I will send you the form in the email you have listed with the guild. Please fill it out and send it back as soon as possible. Not to insult your intelligence, but the form must be completed objectively, and in your role as the Senior healer of the hospital and not as the mother of the one in question." Matt explained.

"I understand and I apologize for the inconvenience. Is there anything else Mr. Hogan?" She asked.

"No Ma'am, thank you for your time and understanding.

With that the call was ended.

"You dodged a bullet Mr. Ekart. We have rules in place for a reason. We do not permit initiates to take jobs in the first week, because we have not given you the classes for conduct and rules on these jobs. Had she have not accepted the penalty on your behalf it would have fallen directly on you and as you're new to the adventurer's guild, I doubt you could have afforded that penalty which means you would have taken the alternate form of payment which includes hard labor on behalf of the guild without pay until penalty is paid." Matt explained.

"I understand, and I am sorry for causing problems." Kyrain replied.

"From the sound of it, you acquitted yourself quite well at the hospital. The job you did was not contracted, so we cannot offer any payment as is normally the case. When a job is posted the money is kept by the guild to be paid upon completion. All we can do is, once we receive the review form is give you credit for a complete job and your first job rating."

"That is fine. I did not expect to be paid for the job, but it is good to know all of that." Ky said feeling much relieved.

"Well, had the rules have been followed, you would have known that from tomorrow's classes."

Matt opened the laptop in front of him back up. He clicked around a bit. "While you are here, it looks like your profile and license are done. It also looks like; your background is complete. There is actually nothing more for you today from the guild. That is all I have for you Mr. Ekart. I wish you a good day and please stay out of trouble."

Kyrain smiled as he got up and wished the manager a good day in return then headed out back home.

He was already mentally over today.
