Chapter 4 - Education and the Harmacist
Kyrain sat in the classes the following day, absolutely bored out of his mind. He already knew about alot of the monsters and their rankings. A few times the guild instructor called on him thinking he wouldn't be able to answer the questions, but his uncles drilled him on monsters.
Once that classes ended, they had a small break then went into the class he did kind of need which was "Guild Rules and Regulations."
It was boring for the most part. They talked about the general guidelines. He was raised in a Christian home so he knew the golden rule, he knew the commandments, and didn't ever plan on breaking those rules, at least on purpose. He knew one day that he might have to take a life in the line of duty. Luckily, his dad had left him many emails that he didn't even know about until a few years after his dad had been taken to the other universe.
One such email went in depth into the philosophical and moral difference between killing and murder. The class shifted into how the guild was set up.
As he knew from school, the US government still operated much the same as it did before the rifts with the introduction of the Regional wardens, which answered to the Supreme Court and the SecDef, who answered to the President and Congress.
Below the Wardens were the governors of each state with their legislature. They made the rules and regulations for each state, that the mayor would enforce with the help of the multiple guild masters who served as state justices now that there were so many super powerful people that must be kept in line, sometimes through force.
Each guild master answered to the Regional wardens. Ultimately everything worked back in with the Constitution and the people as the founders intended with Congress and the President being elected, though Kyrain seriously doubted the founders saw this all coming.
He learned how the guild recieved and verified jobs. In order for a job to be posted someone would fill out a work request detailing what needed done. Based on the level or danger and effort estimation it would be given a guild rank requirement. The higher the rank requirement the more the job would cost the requestor.
Money had shifted years ago from dollars and coins to cores. It took 10 cores of each rank to equal the rank above it. From rank D to S each core had a size and power to it. Each core could be used to fill ones personal aether or be used as a battery for new technology coming out, so a renewable energy source that he had read the world always seemed to need.
They were also recommended to invest in adventurers insurance for not just themselves as medical services were not free and could get expensive if massive amounts of aether and medicines had to be used to keep someone alive on top of if you have a battle with a monster or outlaw that causes massive collateral damage.
Insurance was harder to get the higher tier you are, as your capacity for damage increases. They said it was best to lock on a rate early when you are a lesser tier so the companies can't weasel out later.
After about an hour and a half, that class ended and they were turned loose for a ten minute break.
Ky saw Tobias and Sebastian talking to a darker skinned kid with dark curly hair around their age. He went up to see and maybe make an introduction.
They looked up as he approached. "Hey Ky, this is Elijah. He is someone we were talking to yesterday. You will LOVE his path." Sebastian said with a giggle.
Ky looked over holding out his hand. "Hello! It's good to meet you man. What path you got?"
Elijah smiled mischievously. "Want to see?"
Kyrain shrugged. "Why not?"
Elijah reached into his pocket and pulled out a folding pocket knife and handed it over.
"Prick your finger." He said.
Ky nervously took the knife and looked at his two cousins who gestured him forward. Trusting them he pricked his finger and blood began leaking out. He handed the knife back holding his hand cupped as to not drip blood on the floor.
"Ready?" Elijah asked. Ky looked up confused.
"For wha..."
*Wham!*
Elijah punched Ky in the jaw sending him backward to the floor. His whole body tingled and he immediately got back to his feet, pissed as his cousins rushed forward to stop him from retaliating.
"Ky! Relax! Check yourself over. Does anything hurt?" Tobias said on his right side holding him back.
Ky reached up to his jaw and felt....nothing. He felt great actually. He looked down at his hand and saw the blood was still there, but the prick he made was completely healed. He looked up at Elijah who was grinning like a mad man.
"What?!" Ky said with a higher pitch to his voice so beyond confused.
"My path is called the Harmacist. It's like Pharmacist, but without the "P." The more I kick the crap out of someone the more I can heal them." Elijah said.
Sebastian and Tobias were smiling like they pulled the greatest trick of their lives.
"Could have just told me." Ky said grumpily.
"Yeah, but where's the fun in that dude!" Elijah said.
"Besides, if you had any aches, soreness, or tired, it fixed everything."
Kyrain moved around a bit and realized Elijah was right. He was definitely awake. Whether it was the dudes path or the fact he just got punched in the face, he wasn't sure.
Ky looked around and saw there were a few people watching and even a guild official watching.
"We are ok, no animosity here. I asked him to test his path on me was all." Kyrain said to the onlookers.
The official just nodded, shook his head, then walked off.
"I don't know how my mom would like your style of healing though. Dad might though. She always tells me that he was strange and always got a kick out of the odd or unusual and loved to laugh." Ky said.
"Yeah, my dad was a medic in the Army. Actually used to work in the 101st Airborne here for a while. He was pretty proud when I got my class and laughed hysterically when he found out how I heal." Elijah said.
The four of them laughed and began to make their way back to the classroom as the break was about to be done and the classes for Guild ranks and paths was about to start.
Kyrain was actually looking forward to this class as he had the most peculiar path and neither he nor his cousins knew how it worked.
Ky had his uncle and mother look at his path. They offered some ideas, but didnt honestly know. Kyrain was hoping that maybe getting the whole class could offer him some clues about what was going on with him and how to make his class better.
