Reincarnated Wehraboo's Revenge

Chapter 58: Returning back

After the carriage left the capital, Jerry, Gunther, and Karl sighed in relief.

However, the two nobles they had rescued, Walther Raubenbraum and Lord Landsturm, were still uneasy.

They were not familiar with Erika's Wehrmacht, and the sudden turn of events left them unsettled.

"Who are you people? And how do you know my daughter?" Duke Walther broke the silence first.

"My apologies, I forgot to introduce ourselves," Jerry replied calmly.

"We are Kommandant Erika's elite troops, tasked with guarding her and anything she holds dear."

The answer was brief and vague, leaving Walther unsatisfied.

It seemed implausible that his daughter Erika had soldiers of such skill and discipline under her command.

Their tactics and precision were unlike any army he had seen.

"Don't worry. We'll reach the Raubenbraum territory in two days," Jerry reassured them.

Karl and Gunther took turns driving the carriage, alternating day and night, while changing horses in every town they passed.

Their efficient pace suggested they might arrive even sooner than expected.

Throughout the journey, Walther continued to ask questions. Jerry responded as best he could without revealing too much.

"So, who is Erika to you?" Walther asked.

"She is the founder and commander of the Wehrmacht," Jerry replied plainly.

Walther was taken aback. "She founded an army capable of breaking into the royal palace and rescuing prisoners? How is that even possible?"

"You'd best ask Kommandant Erika about it," Jerry said, deflecting the question.

"And your position in her army?" Walther probed further.

"I'm the lowest-ranking officer," Jerry replied.

Walther grew irritated with the terse responses.

It was clear Jerry was withholding crucial details, speaking carefully but avoiding full disclosure.

Landsturm, who had been silent until now, spoke hesitantly.

"I heard His Highness plans to attack both our territories and take them over."

"Don't worry, Lord Landsturm," Jerry said with a faint smile—the first the nobles had seen from him.

"Kommandant Erika is already aware of the situation. She has dispatched a regiment to protect Landsturm City from any incursions."

"And who is guarding our territory then?" Walther asked, surprised.

"There are still two regiments stationed there, fully prepared to face the might of the Royal Army," Jerry answered confidently.

Landsturm looked anxious. "What about my family? Are they safe?"

"That, I don't know," Jerry admitted.

"But fear not. Since a regiment has already been sent, they should be well protected."

"Can you take me to my palace in Landsturm City?" Landsturm asked hesitantly, more as a request than an order.

"I'm afraid that's not possible," Jerry replied.

"Kommandant Erika specifically ordered us to bring both of you to the Raubenbraum palace."

Landsturm reluctantly accepted the answer, realizing he had no choice but to trust these peculiar soldiers.

Their journey continued steadily.

Meanwhile, Prince Theodore and his entourage reached the Royal Army's encampment.

Inside the commander's tent, the prince finalized his plans for the attack on Raubenbraum City.

The strategy involved leading the charge with feudal armies, supported by the Royal Army.

Under pressure from the nobles, Prince Theodore allowed the use of siege weapons—catapults, ballistas, and mangonels to breach the city's fortified walls.

Orders were issued, and preparations began.

Knights, conscripts, mercenaries, and slaves carrying supplies busied themselves with the enormous task of mobilizing the combined army.

It would take at least a day to ready such a large force for movement.

Unbeknownst to the prince, the Luftwaffe had been monitoring the camp.

A returning pilot informed Erika of the developments.

Erika swiftly devised a plan.

"Encirclement is no longer feasible with the reserve regiment gone, but our defenses are strong enough to repel the invaders," she decided.

She issued orders to her Luftwaffe commander, Stiegler.

"Maintain overwatch on the enemy using the gliders. Commence strafing only once they cross our borders." She ordered

"The artillery range with a green flag, so once the royal army reach that point stop the attacks and withdraw the gliders." She said further.

"As you command," Stiegler replied, promptly setting her orders into motion.

Despite her composed exterior, Erika couldn't shake her worries about the rescue operation.

There was no way to confirm its success yet.

To distract herself, she remained in the barracks, focusing on other tasks.

"Kommandant, you've been here for over a day. Please return home; Mistress will be worried," Emil urged her.

"Don't worry. I've already sent Bauer to inform them that I'm safe," Erika replied firmly.

"I won't leave until this situation is resolved."

Emil understood the worries of Erika and decided not to probe further.

Erika visited the frontline, where the Grossdeutschland regiment was prepared for battle.

In the regiment's headquarters, she briefed the colonel on the situation.

"The enemy may reach our borders in a day, and it will take more time for them to advance into artillery range," she explained.

"The Luftwaffe cannot operate at night, so send the scouts to raid their camp under cover of darkness."

With preparations underway, Erika steeled herself for the coming conflict, determined to see her plans succeed.

Meanwhile, at the Raubenbraum palace, tension was high.

Erika's mother was deeply worried about her husband and could hardly fathom how her young daughter planned to rescue him.

Maruschka and Hanna had previously explained to her what had happened at the ball, and what Erika planned.

"If I had known Erika planned to rescue her father, I would have stopped her from leaving the palace," Erika's mother thought, sitting on the sofa.

"How can an 18-year-old girl rescue two grown men from the Royal Palace? What is she doing?"

Hanna's mother was equally conflicted. She mourned her husband's arrest but remained composed.

The knowledge that the Raubenbraum family was also suffering only added to her inner turmoil.

She felt both gratitude and concern for Erika, who had taken it upon herself to rescue not only her own father but her friend's father as well.

Maruschka, on the other hand, focused on fulfilling Erika's expectations, though she couldn't help feeling ashamed for not being at Erika's side during such a critical time.

Hanna shared similar feelings, burdened with guilt for breaking down during the ball and now feeling like a spoiled guest in Erika's palace.

At this moment Bauer entered the palace.

All the four women swarmed her.

"How's Erika? What's she doing? Is she safe?"

These were the questions that were bombarded on to Bauer.

"Yes, yes, milady is safe. In fact she never left the duchy." Bauer reassured them.

"Umm, w-was she able to rescue Hanna's father?" Lady Landsturm asked hesitantly.

"Ah, the mission has already been conducted, but.... we still don't know what happened at the capital." Bauer replied to the inquiry.

She was again bombarded with questions.

"What happened? What do you mean by mission? How can she do that without leaving the duchy?"

"Umm,,,, actually, it'd be better if you ask milady herself. I have to go back now."

Bauer avoided the question and rushed out.

Though Bauer couldn't provide a satisfactory answer, she provided some ease to the women.

Particularly Maruschka and Erika's mother who were happy to know that Erika was safe.

Hanna was happy as well to know her friend was safe.

However, Hanna's mother was more on the skeptical side.

She felt a hint of betrayal as if Erika didn't keep her promise, though Bauer already mentioned the rescue operation was underway.

Soon a carriage carrying the sign of the Kingdom Hohenstaufia parked in front of the palace gate.

It was driven by Gunther and beside him sat Karl.

Walther Raubenbraum and Lord Landsturm got out of the carriage.

"Aren't you three coming inside? You must be tired as well after driving the carriage for more than a day." Walther said looking at jerry.

"Oh no. We have to report to the Kommandant. So we'll return to the barracks." Jerry replied.

Before the duke could say anything, Jerry closed the carriage door and Gunther drove it away.

Reaching, the camp, they reported to the on duty officers about their safe return and successfully completed mission.

The duty officer called the GD regiment hq at the front and informed Erika about the safe return of her father.

Listening to this news, Erika leapt up in joy, as tears rolled down her eyes.

She was glad her bold rescue mission was successful and her father has returned safely.

However, her worries were not over as the combined army was approaching the borders.
