Reincarnated Maid is About To Be Captured by All Players

Volume 1 Chapter 29

To walk from Rothschild to Baron Hest’s territory would take about half a day, and a round trip would consume an entire day. Rothschild is a small village without a stable; at most, there’s a butcher who raises livestock. Riding a pig would be neither dignified nor fast, so villagers from Rothschild either start early to make it back by night or prepare money for an overnight stay if they need to go to Baron Hest’s territory.

I could use magic to speed up the journey, but due to certain restrictions, I would need to use the [Space Transfer] spell twice to reach the outskirts of Baron Hest’s territory. Magic isn’t an omnipotent skill without limitations; overusing it in a short span will cause mental [Fatigue], similar to how pain serves as a bodily warning. While you can still use magic in a [Fatigue] state, it would come with a drop in damage, effect, and accuracy, and the fatigue would gradually increase.

[Space Transfer] is a high-cost advanced skill, but the part I’ve minimized is the carrying limit and the transfer distance, not the energy consumption.

“Wow…”

Upon transferring to the outskirts of Baron Hest’s territory, I witness a truly majestic castle for the first time. Though castles were numerous during the medieval era, their importance dwindled with the advent of firearms. Seeing one in person is a completely different experience than hearing about them.

The castle in Baron Hest’s domain is rather simple. Normally, only the Baron, his relatives, guards, and some other individuals live in the castle, while other villagers reside outside it, forming a community that centers around the castle.

Baron Hest’s domain isn’t particularly affluent. It’s managed by a player with the ID Trafalgar, who is responsible for the Baron’s territory and the surrounding areas. A Baron doesn’t just govern the castle’s village but also surrounding territories. Due to the distance between villages and the high cost of setting up teleportation crystals, nobles often send trusted vassals as [Governors] to local villages. These [Governors] are not nobles, and sometimes merchants purchase this position for trading privileges.

Using [Space Transfer] within a large city is generally illegal. If caught, you’d have to go through a complicated interrogation to ensure you’re not a spy. I go through a simple inspection by the guards, which is mostly a formality, as they can’t actually inspect storage spaces.

“Time to keep a low profile.”

Though it may raise suspicions, the tavern in Hest is likely filled with adventurers from afar. I’ll buy what I need and head back, hoping not to encounter any weirdos.

“Hey, beautiful, all alone?”

“How about some fun with us?”

Choosing the alley might have been a mistake… why are these lines the same in any era? Can’t they be more creative?

I had barely entered Hest when I was accosted by two thugs in a deserted alley. One even flaunted a dagger, hinting I should comply.

So, I—

“Aaaaaahhhhh!”

“Stop! How dare you—”

Suddenly, a man of imposing demeanor appears from around the corner. His [Charisma] is probably on par with Enric’s, and his good looks add to his appeal. But he freezes mid-sentence.

“You are?”

“Um… I heard a girl screaming…”

“That wasn’t me.”

I point to the thug twitching under my maid skirt.

The scream was his.

I simply delivered a critical hit to their heads with my chains. I misjudged the force on one hit and struck a shoulder, causing him to scream. My apologies; I’ll make sure you leave more peacefully next time.

“…”

The gallant gentleman glances at the two thugs lying on the ground, then back at me. He repeats this three times before uttering, “Excuse me,” and hurriedly leaves, as if he came and went like a cloud.

[Congratulations, Affection +0]

Another handsome player, how coincidental?

Though these thugs deserve no mercy, leaving them in the middle of the road would obstruct pedestrians. I hang them by their collars on the roof edge, making them look like decorative scarecrows.

A bakery is just at the other end of the alley. Bread is a staple food in the human world of Limoria. This might offend the baker, but I think my bread-baking skills are not inferior to theirs. So, I buy some wheat flour instead of bread.

The tidy maid outfit often yields good results. Despite being a servant, the baker treats me courteously, perhaps assuming a noble backs me, and efficiently completes the transaction.
