Reborn With a Magic System

Chapter 101 – Mage At Last

*Ding*

{The Magic System has fully unlocked. Congratulations host. Please review your new status as a mage.}

Damion quickly reviewed his status and was unsure what he was looking at. He could afford to ask the Magic System questions later, for now he needed to know if he had magic he could use.

'Ice affinity!' Damion screamed mentally. He was excited that he finally had a magic affinity. He did not know what EX meant. He assumed that was his rank, but he had no idea how EX compared to the other Ranks, since it did not conform to the normal Rank convention of Nerotath. Damion thought it might be a special E Rank or perhaps something else entirely.

What Damion did know, was that the Magic System had previously memorized several Ice magic seals and he needed one of them desperately now.

'System, what Ice magic spells do I have available?' Damion quickly asked the system.

The Deinosuchus was rolling back to its feet and in just a few seconds the Demonic Beast would realize that Damion had not been squashed and come over to eat him.

{Available Ice spells are.}

[Ice Shard - Active - (F Rank 20 Mana) Shoots an ice shard at your target.]

[Ice Breath - Active - (F Rank 5 Mana P/S) Breathe freezing air up to 1 meter away.]

[Ice Shield Active - (F Rank 20 Mana) Conjure a shield to block physical and magic attacks.]

[Icy Grasp - Active - (F Rank 15 Mana P/S) Chill your target on touch. Can completely freeze a target if held long enough]

'Ice Shield,' Damion thought and as he focused on his new magic, a circle of ice began forming in front of him. Damion focused on channeling his mana and the ice grew forming a strong shield.

The Deinosuchus spewed out its fire attack, but Damion's new spell was able to overcome the Demonic Beast's fire, leaving Damion unharmed. Damion could not help but think that his EX Rank was not a special form of E Rank, but something different. Something the Magic System, that was not from this world, gave especially to him.

When the Deinosuchus's fire attack ended Damion lowered his Ice Shield and focused on one of the other spells he had just unlocked. Raising his right hand up with his palm out Damion cast his next spell, Ice Shard.

A small shard of Ice formed in front of Damion's palm and then went flying off towards the Deinosuchus. Damion did not think much of this small piece of ice, but when the ice shard pierced through the hide of the Demonic Beast, Damion was instantly impressed.

Keeping his palm up, Damion began to channel his mana again and started repeatedly casting his Ice Shard spell. One by one the small pieces of ice pierced into the Demonic Beast's hide causing the Deinosuchus to roar in pain with each hit.

As Damion kept attacking, his party made their way over and watched in confusion as Damion cast spell after spell into the Demonic Beast. Occasionally, the Deinosuchus would spew fire again, but Damion easily brought up his Ice Shield to protect himself.

When the Deinosuchus seemed to be nearing complete exhaustion, Damion was about to send another attack with his Ice Shard spell but was stopped.

"That is enough," a woman said before sending a spear of light into the Deinosuchus' head killing the Demonic Beast instantly.

Damion turned and looked at her and realized she was the same white-haired woman that had shown up at the east gate to protect people from the Arcdotus' roar attack. Damion was quite sure this woman was an S Rank healer, but what she was doing here was a mystery to Damion.

"You should not play with Demonic Beasts," the woman scolded Damion.

"I was just trying to finish it off," Damion said defensively as he walked over and removed his sword from the Deinosuchus' eye. He was feeling quite tired, both physically and mentally. All he wanted to do right now was go home and sleep for a week. The last thing he needed was an S Rank nosing about his life. He needed to find Ms. Teft.

"Mage Bianco," Damion's group healer greeted. "I had no idea you would be the one to respond to our distress signal."

The woman's name sounded familiar, and Damion was quickly able to remember why. Theodore Bianco. The Holy affinity S Rank talent he and Arica had been in several parties with. If this S Rank mage had the same last name, there was a good chance they were related. As Damion looked at the woman he could not help but wonder what the chances were of two S Rank talents being in the same family.

Damion's entire party appeared to be shocked, first by Damion using magic and now by the appearance of this S Rank mage. Even though there was a legendary mage standing amongst them, Damion felt that all eyes were on him and it made him more than a little uncomfortable.

"You were the young man that held the gap in the wall by the east gate," Mage Bianco said when she looked at Damion's face. She had not recognized him before, but now she did.

"Yes I was," Damion replied. "Our group needs to get back to Saung. If you'll excuse us."

"Not until you explain why you have been hiding your S Rank magic affinity."

"S Rank affinity?" Damion was at a loss for a moment. The Magic System listed his Ice affinity at EX Rank. Why would Mage Bianco say he had an S Rank affinity unless…

Damion quickly reached into one of his waist pouches and pulled out a small mirror and looked himself in the mirror. His brown ordinary hair had turned light blue, appearing almost white, a very stark contrast to how he looked just minutes ago.

As Damion searched his mind for a way to explain his situation Ms. Teft finally appeared giving Damion some much needed relief.

"There will be a conference tomorrow to debrief all the A and S Ranks, as well as plan out recovery efforts for Saung," Ms. Teft told Mage Bianco. "Damion's situation will be explained then."

"What makes you think I will wait that long for an explanation Mage Teft?" Mage Bianco responded coldly.

"He is my student. And this is not the territory of your Erythraean Academy. Count yourself lucky I am willing to provide any explanation at all," Ms. Teft said firmly.

Ms. Teft waved her hand, and a ground car appeared out of nowhere. Damion knew it had to have come out of Ms. Teft's spatial storage artifact, but the rest of his party was quite shocked to see it.

"Go back to the city. Have a good night's rest. I will come and see you in the morning," Ms. Teft told Damion.

Damion saw no reason to say anything, he just climbed in the ground car and looked to the rest of his group. After a brief moment of hesitation, the group climbed into the ground car and Damion set off towards Saung.
