Reborn as the Villain in a Romance Fantasy

Chapter 199: Ch 199: Did you find it? - Part 2

"On that note, did you investigate the inn that caused all these incidents? All these people tried to sneak into that inn to kill the person who rented it, right? Did you get any news on how she is?"

John's voice was laced with excitement and a need to know Layla's identity. He had been trying to find out more about it and left no expanse unpair to know more.

It made his subordinate nervous, especially since he had looked around and found nothing on Layla.

From her name to her race and even her real hair color, there was no evidence that any of what he knew was right.

It was almost as if that silver-haired bitch had appeared out of thin air one day, and no one knew when that happened.

"I am afraid I would need a little more time to look around before I can answer you. We are actively looking for what you asked for, and we will make sure-"

The man spoke, but someone entered the room with urgent footsteps before he could finish.

The soldier who entered looked panicked, and his face was sweaty when he faced Leader John.

"Leader, we have detected signs of Duke Lockhart's 'people' heading this way. Our reports say Adam Clifford and That demon Rosette were seen at the party. What should we do now?"

The guard asked in a panicked voice. His face was sweating as he was just thinking about this visit.

Duke Lockhart, or rather, Lady Layla's company, was someone everyone knew about. With her success came knowledge about the pillars that made it all possible.

There were many impressive faces in that company, but even among them, the above-mentioned were in a class of their own.

They had been with the company since its start and could not be replaced, no matter what happened.

"Shit! First, that tyrant rumor, and now this? What else is left? For the royal family to get involved and cause a mess as well? Anyway, get ready to receive those people from the Duke's fraction. We cannot have anything amiss when they come here."

Leader John ordered, and everyone shuffled around to take care of his orders.

They all knew how important it was that they took care of the Duke's people well.

Lady Rosette was someone they especially needed to be careful of. She was known to have a short temper and not like anyone.

She was also temperamental and liked to destroy things when she felt frustrated. She could cause a lot of damage if she wanted to.

And the worst part was that no one could stop her once she started her rampage.

"Arrange a fighting tournament to crown the next champion of this place. I will give the champion exclusive rights to make rules for a year. This will be our way to honor our guests and entertain them."

The leader proposed, and by the end of the evening, everyone knew that a tournament with a grand prize was being held.

Inns would start flooding the next morning, but Layla was not worried. She had paid more than enough money to stay in the inn undisturbed and would ensure this remained the case.

...

"I am sorry, but we are full. We cannot accommodate any more people."

The innkeeper rejected the tenth customer who approached her to ask for a room.

Talks about the grant tournament had spread around to nearby towns, and people were pouring into the city to try and change their luck,

That includes all kinds of wealthy people willing to pay an arm and a leg to stay in her inn.

But unfortunately, no matter how much the innkeeper wanted to let them stay here and exploit them, she could not break the contract she had signed. It made her turn down excellent business opportunities.

Those who knew her and her greedy nature were shocked at her actions. They were even more shocked when they offered to pay for more, but they were still rejected.

It made the innkeeper want to cry as she sent her customers away. She was losing out on so much profit that it hurt.

'Tsk, if only I were not bound by that contract, I would have exploited these people to no end. But now I am stuck here like this and want to break something.'

It was clear to the innkeeper that she would spend her day rejecting all these people, so she did not even try to make a happy face. She kept rejecting people until she reached a customer who refused to take no for an answer.

"I am afraid that there are no available rooms for you tonight. Everything was booked way before you arrived. Please, try another inn if you can."

The innkeeper felt her mouth hurt when she spoke the same sentence repeatedly. But this time, the person she was asked did not seem to understand her message.

"I am not leaving this place until I get a room. If you want to fight, then I can take you in a fight. But I am not sure how much my 'friend' here could take it before she starts to destroy things."

The young male pointed to the young female standing behind her.

Something about that face and that smile struck the innkeeper as familiar, and she cringed when she saw it.

She immediately felt that these people were not lying to get attention. They had the power to destroy this place if they wanted to.

It made the innkeeper want to curse, but she held her temper and decided to ask for some time.

"I understand you are anxious, but can you still wait a few minutes? I will ask my boss if we can have more guests or not. Ultimately, this is not in my hands, and I might be unable to help you fully."

The innkeeper was almost begging, and the customers finally let her go and ask about it.
