Chapter 304: Hunt.
"How long are we going to wait?" Sophia asked as they were still just staring at the phone on the table and nothing more.
They literally didn't speak a word after their argument, not even a single word, just sat in silence waiting and waiting for that phone call, which frustrated Sophia even more.
She got the point how much James truly he means, but in her mind it is still a family, it is still an organization that needs to move, that needs to act properly, and moreover, times like this when they were literally attacked, when Finn is in the hospital and they know nothing about him, and this sitting around just waiting for that fucking call did exactly the opposite of what she still wanted. Though she knew pretty much to not press on it, because maybe, just maybe Hector would truly kill her.
"We wait until it rings." Hector spoke as he looked at her. "We do nothing, just wait and wait… but if no calls come, then we know something more troubling."
As he said it, Sophia instantly caught it… his voice was laced with uncertainty about something…
But what?
She couldn't think about anything… until this point Hector seemed straight with what he wanted, but now something was up with him.
And that was exactly what Sophia asked about… the phone call.
It was too much waiting, that was what Hector thought about… and with it he thought about the possibility that there is something way bigger happening than a so-called cartel attack.
He still didn't trust the government and every aspect of it… it just seemed too much from the beginning, and he knew that they would eventually want to overpower them. That fucking president William… his whole being is just a fucking rat, a betrayal, they are going to arrest those people who are stole the country with him, they starved the people together… the people who were just destroying everything, up until the point the mafia started to have more power in the streets in the cities then them.
In short, he thought about the possibility that the government might have had their hand in it, that they might have been the one that helped the cartel to get their location, brace that was just too fast to clean.
Like, how the fuck did they know where he was? Why was the sicario so confident to show up by himself to kill him? Why did he know that there was no security with him?
For Hector the only thing that made sense was Finn and his assassination attempt. To be true, Hector knew that people of the black market and every other aspect of the underworld are pretty mad about them… like pulling out from the market, literally cashing it then taking monopoly… not even talking about how many deals were fucked up by the death of Marco, Silas and the others who were important figures of the durg trade.
And it was all them, the Bellini family who fucked it up for everybody… that's why it made sense that some people who are they in relationship with might sold Finn out, the person in he family who arranged meetings and deals… but Hector?
It did not make a fucking sense.
How did that sicario know exactly where he was and that he was all alone… it was too strange, it was too obvious that somebody had helped them… somebody who knew where he goes, maybe overheard a conversation that he will go to the hospital… yeah, the only answer to it was that.
Somebody blew the whistle, and told the sicario he went to the hospital without security.
The realization of it was just like a bullet hitting him or more like a knife slowly cutting into his skin and then to the bones… the realization that the family that so far was so intact together without any leak now turned into exactly what is happened to every other family… and the top of it Hector genuinely thought they are different.
He thought they were more intact than every other family in the game, that they were the example of a family built upon faith in each other, built upon the hope they gave to the poor… but now it all seemed to fall, seemed to begin rotting yeah, the worst of all of it.
Every single family that was prominent once, the biggest and most powerful, all died down the same way… from inside where rotting started and spread slowly to everywhere, like the Lucian family.
A family that was the straight opposite of theirs. The Augustus family that was built on straight fear, blood but it worked… worked for fucking decades but in the same why thatexactly why the rotting began… because of the fear.
There is no family, no organization, no mafia that is stable… and the worst thing about it is that Hector thought that they are the exception, that they will last without any bullshit like this happening… what a fucking joke.
How funny is it that they are working with the fucking government, with the feds and police… and still somebody fucking snitches… somebody still finds a buyer for information… what the actual fuck… why would somebody fucking do it when they are in a prominent position?
That's where the second thought came… that maybe it was the government itself that snitched… yeah, maybe they are playing both sides, maybe they realized how much power James has and are slowly but carefully moving their chess pieces in a way that is not too obvious but still causes harm.
Should I kill the president too… the whole cabinet… that too much trouble and James would oppose it… but he did say to kill whoever I want… maybe it would be—
It rang. The phone finally rang with an unknown caller-
"Should I?" Sophia asked as she already reached her hand to pick it up.
"Put it on speaker." Hector said, which Sophia nodded.
Silence for a bit, the only thing that could be heard was some rattle in the background from the phone.
"Who is it?" Hector asked.
"Oh so you're alive Hector, it's good to hear your voice." Benjamin's voice came from the phone as he giggled a bit like it was a fucking joke.
"Indeed I am… was it you little fucks who ordered the hit?" Hector asked back, without even a hint of joke in his voice and Sophia felt that he was serious about it.
"No, we know about it from a man named Darvik who is a minister and the one that welcomed James in Maraci."
For a moment Hector closed his eyes and all of it came together. The special ops who saved him talked about Darvik and his friend… who is obviously James… which meant one thing…
Once again James acted to it and saved them… at least kinda.
"So what now?" Sophia cut in as Hector was thinking… she could wait no more.
"Now?" Benjamin asked back. "The NSBI, IF, ISB, all of them are ready to act depending on what y'all are doing… which means the hunt begins." He giggled at the end, but it was the type of giggle you hear from villains… it was kinda out of pocket from him… but it did one thing at least: it caused one thing.
Smiling. Hector and Ramirez both, at the same time, started smiling.
"Oh, then… let the hunt begin."
