Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Scizor
"Zha!!"
The moment the Metal Coat was applied to Scyther's body, it immediately began to feel an intense restlessness. It instinctively wanted to absorb the coat, but Scyther fought to control its urges, using its willpower to suppress the overwhelming energy coursing through its body.
"Guest, we also have Everstone, which can help Scyther in this situation," the waiter quickly suggested.
Gary's eyes widened in realization. He had completely forgotten about the Everstone, a special item that could prevent unwanted evolutions and stabilize a Pokémon's state.
"Then please bring it out quickly," Gary said urgently.
The waiter handed him the Everstone, which was immediately placed on Scyther. The moment the stone made contact, the restlessness that had been stirring in Scyther's body vanished, bringing immediate relief.
With the Everstone in place, Gary and the waiter hurried to continue applying the Metal Coat. Slowly, Scyther's body started to change. The once-green coloring began to turn silver, and the Pokémon looked more like a flash of light than a creature.
After applying the Metal Coat thoroughly, the waiter removed the Everstone from Scyther's body.
"Zha!!"
The second the Everstone was removed, the Metal Coat fully activated, and Scyther's body radiated with incandescent light. The surrounding shop assistants and customers stared in awe as the transformation took place.
As the evolution process continued, Scyther's form grew taller, quickly surpassing Gary's height. Its wings began to shrink, and its sickle-like arms folded in, transforming into a pincer-like structure. Within moments, the evolution was complete, and a new form stood before Gary.
The Pokémon now resembled a sleek, red-armored insect with gleaming steel wings.
[LV24 Scizor♂ / Quasi-Elite]
As the waiter had mentioned earlier, Scyther's potential had increased during the evolution, rising from Gym-level potential to the higher Quasi-Elite level.
"Scizor, come in," Gary said, realizing the crowd was starting to gather around. He quickly returned Scizor to its Poké Ball to avoid drawing too much attention.
"By the way, could you also give me a regular Metal Coat?" Gary asked, remembering that the high-quality Metal Coat had an additional advantage, boosting the power of Steel-type moves.
The waiter nodded and quickly fetched another Metal Coat. "Here you go. This one can increase the power of Steel-type skills by 20% when held by a Pokémon."
Gary thanked the waiter, purchased the Metal Coat, and made his way out of the store.
"Please come again!" the waiter called out cheerfully as Gary walked out of the Silver Department Store.

Scizor's New Strength
Once outside, Gary looked at the Poké Ball in his hand, smiling. Scizor had evolved into a much stronger Pokémon, and Gary was pleased with its progress. He quickly accessed Scizor's stats in his Pokédex.
[Scizor♂]
Attribute: Bug, Steel
Level: 24
Potential: Quasi-Elite
Ability: Technical Expert (Increases the power of moves with a base power of 60 or less by 50%)
Moves: Leer, Quick Attack, Fury Cutter, False Swipe, Wing Attack, Slash, Bullet Punch
Intimacy: 205 (max: 255)
Carrying Item: Metal Coat
"Not bad at all," Gary murmured, impressed with Scizor's new abilities. "Bullet Punch has awakened, and this ability is going to be useful in battle." Despite his satisfaction, Gary knew that Scizor still needed more training. Its level was still low, and he wasn't confident in taking on Sabrina at the moment. If he challenged her now, he would certainly be at a disadvantage.
"I wonder if I can find an Abra around here," Gary thought aloud. Sabrina's Gym was in Saffron City, which was known not only as the home of the Saffron Gym but also as a place where many Psychic-type Pokémon were found. Gary had heard rumors that there were apprentices from the Saffron Gym who kept Pokémon like Abra around.
Abra was notorious for being difficult to catch, but Gary knew that it was a critical part of his team. In the original timeline, Gary had owned an Alakazam, and he used it in the Silver Conference, but he had no idea where he had captured it. His best bet for encountering an Abra was in Saffron City.
"I could just buy one, but that's illegal since they're not allowed to be sold. There's another way, though," Gary muttered, suddenly recalling an idea. "I could become an apprentice at the Saffron Gym. Maybe there will be a chance to acquire an Abra that way. Though it would take some time..."
Gary decided to try his luck and headed toward the Saffron Gym, hoping to find an opportunity.

Saffron Gym
As he neared the gym, Gary looked around carefully. Saffron Gym was notorious not just for its challenging Psychic-type trainers but also for the mysterious events surrounding its current leader, Sabrina.
Sabrina had once been a cheerful and bright person, but her intense training in Psychic abilities had slowly changed her. She had grown distant and cold, and rumors suggested that her growing power had caused her to develop a cruel streak. Many Trainers who lost to Sabrina had reportedly been turned into dolls, which she kept as playthings.
Gary knew of these rumors and was not entirely sure what to expect when he arrived. His main goal was to find a way to meet Sabrina, and ideally, get an Abra. He was determined to figure out how to approach the situation.
As he rode his bike near the gym's entrance, he noticed a figure approaching. It was a middle-aged man wearing a green jacket and yellow cap. Gary instantly recognized him from the descriptions he had read about in the past. This was Sabrina's father, the former Gym Leader of Saffron Gym.
"Are you Mr. Najun?" Gary asked, stopping his bike.
The man looked up in surprise. "Oh, you know me," he said, appearing startled. "I haven't been the Gym Leader here for two years now. Everyone thinks Sabrina runs the gym."
"I've seen your photo on the internet," Gary replied. "I've read about your past."
Najun didn't seem to mind the mention of his past. However, his expression turned serious. "I advise you not to challenge Sabrina," he said, his voice filled with concern. "She's changed a lot, and she's no longer the person she used to be."
Gary wasn't deterred. "I understand, but I think the situation needs to be addressed. I'm not just here to challenge her—I want to help solve the problem."
Najun raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Have you already challenged Sabrina?"
Gary quickly shook his head. "No, but I met an apprentice on the road who told me some things about the situation at the Gym."
Najun was convinced by Gary's explanation. Many of Sabrina's apprentices had left due to her increasingly harsh behavior. Some had even spread stories about what was happening in the gym, so it wasn't surprising that Gary had learned about it.
"Well, I'm glad you understand the situation. But just be careful," Najun cautioned.
Gary nodded, feeling more certain about his next steps. With his newly evolved Scizor and the knowledge he had gained, he was ready to continue his journey—and possibly take on Sabrina in the near future.
