Pokemon Journeys (My Version)

Chapter 164: Chapter 24: Mild'n Wooly

Today, Mew and her friends have stopped at a beautiful spot to enjoy a brief break from their trip to the Johto League

"Wow! What a view! And the weather is just perfect," Misty says.

"Yeah, and speaking of, this fresh mountain air sure helps you work up an appetite," Brock says.

"Mine doesn't need any help," Tomo says.

"It's a great day to relax on a bright sunny day," Mew says.

"Yeah. It's really nice," Jen says

Just then, Pichu lets out a small sneeze and electricity leaks out of her cheeks.

Misty giggles, "Oh Pichu."

Suddenly, the group hears a strange sound and looks to see something up ahead. A sheep-like Pokémon with fluffy cream-colored wool covering its entire body, as well as a curly tuft of wool in the middle of its head. Its head is blue, and it has black eyes. Its four feet are blue and have two digits on each foot, and it appears to be on tiptoe at all times. Its conical ears and tail have a yellow-and-black striped pattern. It has an orange sphere at the end of its tail, which acts like a small light bulb. This sphere glows brighter the more electricity it has.

It seems to have a pink ribbon and a bell around its neck.

Next to it, is a smaller version of the Pokemon and seems to be shy that it's hiding the other Pokemon

"Oh, what's that?" Misty asks.

"I've never seen one in person before, but I think those are Mareep," Brock says

"It's cute," Jen says.

"Let's se" Mew says, and brings out her Pokedex.

Dexter says, "Mareep, the Wool Pokemon. And Electric Type Mareep store static electricity in their wooly coats. They avoid battles and have mild dispositions."

Misty chuckles, "But Dexter didn't say how cute they are."

"What's a Mareep doing here?" Tomo asks.

"It must belong to someone. I think it has a bell around its neck.

Suddenly, the Mareep with the bell dashes towards the group. The little one follows.

"This Mareep doesn't look too mild to me!" Mew says, shocked.

Before anyone can react, Mareep leaps towards the group, but while everyone moves out of the way, Pikachu and Pichu end up having Mareep on top of them.

"Pikachu!" Mew cries out.

Misty panics, "Pichu!"

Frightened, both Pikachu and Eevee let out their electric attack, but it causes Mareep's fleece to get larger and larger

"It got bigger!" Tomo says, surprised

Everyone is amazed to see it.

"How did that happen?" Tomo asks.

"I see. It used Pikachu and Pichu's electricity to puff up its fleece," Brock says

"Like a hairdryer?" Misty asks.

Suddenly, Jen and Tomo hear baaing and look to see the little Mareep.

"Hello little one," Jen says, and gently pats its fleece, match to its satisfaction. Although, it blushes and looks a bit shy.

Suddenly, everyone hears thundering hooves, and turns to see a WHOLE HERD of Mareep heading towards them. Everyone duck and panic as the crowd of Mareep surround Pikachu and Eevee.

"Pikachu!" Mew cries out.

"Pichu!" Misty panics

Mew shouts, "Hey, get off of them!"

"Quit it!" Misty shouts.

Brock shouts, "Knock it off!"

"Stop it!" Tomo shouts.

Pikachu and Pichu use their attack again, causing the Mareep fleece to puff. Soon, the little walks closer and its fleece puffs up

"Now they're all getting puffed up!" Tomo says.

Suddenly, someone shouts, "Stop!"

Everyone turns to see a little girl with brown hair, wearing a pink shirt, pink vest, and white, green and red skirt running towards them.

The girl calls out, "Leave that Pikachu and Pichu alone! You all know better than to gang up on another Pokemon like that! Now stop it!"

The Mareep with the bell around its neck recognizes the girl and does what she says. However, the others aren't listening.

The girl continues to try to stop the Mareep Herd, "Leave that Pikachu and Pichu alone, I said! That electricity's not for you, now get away! Somebody's gonna get hurt, now, come on! Get away, I said!" but gets pushed back by one of the Mareep's tail.

"Are you okay, little girl?" Mew asks.

The Mareep with the pink ribbon and bell walk over.

The girl asks, "Fluffy, why won't they listen?"

Suddenly, someone calls out, "Mary!"

Everyone, including the Mareep, looks to see a grown woman with dark brown hair, wearing a similar outfit to the little girl, Mary. She also has a Raichu by her side.

"It's mommy," The girl, Mary says.

The woman calls out, "Raichu, use Thunderbolt."

Raichu does so and leads the Mareep herd away from the Pokemon.

"What's happening?" Jen asks.

Everyone looks to see the Mareep skip and prance around happily around the attack

Ben: The Mareep are being herded away from Pikachu, that's what's happening.

"That's amazing!" Jen says

"Yeah. It's almost like they're taking a static electricity shower," Brock says.

Pikachu and Pichu return to their trainers, much to their relief.

Then the woman says, "Alright, Raichu. That'll be enough."

Raichu stops the attack.

Then the woman calls out, "Let's everybody head on back!"

With that, the Mareep takes the woman's lead.

The woman says, "Straighten up those lines, now. Back to that corral, and that means no grazing."

Then turns to see the little Mareep next to Jen, "Come on little one, that means you too."

Little Mareep then follows the herd back home.

"Wow. I can't believe how obedient those Mareep are being," Misty says.

"Yeah," Mew agrees.

"I bet it's a tough job training all those Pokémon at once," Brock says.

The woman says to her Raichu, "Raichu, make sure they get back safely."

Raichu agrees and guides the Mareep back.

The woman then turns to Mary, "Mary."

"Yes, mom?" Mary asks.

"You'd better head back to the house," The woman says.

"Kay," Mary says.

Soon, everyone joins Mary and her mother, whose name is Ellen.

Ellen says, "I'm sorry about what happened. Our Mareep love electricity so much, they can't get enough. I hope you all weren't hurt."

"We're okay and everything worked out," Mew says.

Then Brock says, "Oh, Misty. Why couldn't she be ten years younger?"

"Oh boy," Misty replies.

"I only took my eyes off the Mareep for a second, and they got away from me. Sorry you got shocked, Mew, you too, Misty," Mary apologizes.

"Oh, that was nothing. Mew gets shocked so much, he practically runs on electricity," Misty says.

Mew laughs, "That's true."

Just then, Ellen says, "Something tells me you were daydreaming about Pokémon battles again. Were you?"

"Yes," Mary answers.

"I told you, you're supposed to be keeping an eye on those Mareep," Ellen says.

"But mom, the festival starts next week," Mary says

"What festival?" Mew asks.

"Oh, it's a big event. There are rides and shows, and all kinds of competitions," Ellen answers.

"Really?" The group asks.

"For as long as anyone remembers, the Mareep in our valley have given us the best wool in the world. And so every…" Ellen says

"Let me guess. And so every year, you have a festival to honor the Mareep," Misty says.

"Right. It's an important part of our history, and it's also lots of fun, because we have lots of Mareep judging and Pokemon battles," Ellen says.

"Sounds cool. I wouldn't mind entering it," Mew says.

"Me too," Tomo says.

But Ellen says, "I'm sorry, but only people who live in the valley can enter."

"Oh, that's too bad," Mew says.

"Yeah. It will be great to battle before we head to the Azalea gym," Tomo says.

"The Azalea gym?" Mary asks, taking an interest, "If you're going to the Azalea gym, you must be on your way to the Johto League!

"Yeah. I already won a Zephyr badge at the Violet City gym," Mew says.

Mary becomes excited, "Wow, that's awesome! I wanna learn how to battle, too!"

Then turns to her mom," Mommy, can I enter the Mareep Festival Pokemon battle and battle Pokémon like Mew does?"

But Ellen says, "You may not."

"Why?" Mary asks.

"I've told you before, you're too young," Ellen answers.

But Mary says, "No, I'm not!"

Then Ellen says, "You're just not ready for battling yet. If you still have trouble handling your Mareep out in the field, how are you going to handle them in a battle?"

"But, I…" Mary says.

But Ellen interrupts, "Mary! The festival is only five days away and you still have plenty of work to do. You need to stop dreaming about battling and concentrate on getting the Mareep ready for the contest."

Then Brock says, "Excuse me, ladies. If I may, I'd like to humbly offer my assistance of myself and my friends."

"What?" Jen asks, confused.

"What are you talking about, Brock?" Mew asks.

"Since when are you humble?" Mew says, confused

Ellen happily says, "Oh, thank you. We could certainly use all the help we can get."

Later, Mew is helping Ellen lead the Mareep while Pikachu and Eevee each ride on one. The little Mareep likes to be close to Jen for some reason, not that she, Snubbull, and Amaura mind.

Soon enough, Pikachu and Raichu lead the stragglers back to the herd

Mew calls out, "Don't let them wander off, Pikachu!"

Meanwhile, Brock and Ellen observe the static charge of one of the Mareep. The group soon get to brushing the Mareeps' wool. Mary is brushing Flappy's while the littlest Mareep allows Jen to brush.

Mary turns to Jen, "That little Mareep really likes you. This one is usually shy."

"Really?" Jen asks.

The little Mareep turns to Jen and baa in reply.

Unknown to the group, Team Rocket is watching from afar.

James counts each Mareep, "One Mareep, Two Mareep, Three Mareep, Four Mareep, Five Mareep..." And soon falls asleep.

"Hey, wake up!" Meowth shouts.

But Jessie says,"Forget him. If we can figure out a way to catch all those Mareep and sell all their wool, think of all the money we'll make."

"I'm tinkin'" Meowth says, "Anyting made of Mareep wool costs a fortune. It's super expensive!"

"When I was a boy, practically every stitch of clothing I owned, sweaters, socks, unmentionables, everything was made of Mareep wool," James says.

Jessie and Meowth are surprised.

Then James explains, "It was... like heaven. I had snug, little Mareep wool shorts, cute, little Mareep wool mittens, a scarf, of course, and the most adorable Mareep wool stocking cap you've ever seen. My school-mates were so envious they beat me nearly every day!" This makes Jessie and Meowth angry, "You weren't so fortunate, were you?"

"NO!" Jessie and Meowth say.

Then Jessie says, "Let's figure out how to fleece those Mareep!"

"Yeah!" James and Meowth agree.

Later in the evening, Mary is practicing some battling techniques.

Mary calls out, "Fluffy, Thunder Shock!"

Fluffy launches the attack and hits the target.

Mary is so happy, "Wow! That was a real good one!"

"Hey. Your Mareep's Thunder Shock is pretty powerful," Mew says. "Did it learn that attack all by itself?"

"No. We've been practicing," Mary says, blushing.

"Well, it shows," Mew says.

Then looks at the Mareep, "I have to guess you call this one, Fluffy? That's a cute name."

"That's right," Mary says. "I raised Fluffy ever since it was a tiny Mareep, and we've been training for a long time, haven't we, Fluffy?"

Fluffy nods.

"Well, all of your training paid off. You should both be really proud," Mew says, and pets Fluffy.

Then Mary asks, "Mew, I...Could I ask you a favor?"

"Sure, go ahead," Mew answers.

Then Mary asks, "Would you have a battle with me?" causing Mew to be surprised.

Then Mary says, "I want my Fluffy to battle your Pikachu. You see, Fluffy and I were never in a Pokémon battle before. Please, Mew.

Mew turns to Pikachu, "What do you say, Pikachu?"

"Pika." (Okay!)

"Alright, we accept your challenge," Mew says.

Mary happily says, "Oh, thank you!"

Soon, Mary and Fluffy, Mew and Pikachu are standing on opposite sides, ready for battle.

"Okay! We're ready whenever you are!" Mew says

"Are you ready to go, Fluffy?" Mew asks her friend.

Fluffy baas in reply.

Then Mary calls out, "I choose Fluffy!"

Fluffy dashes into the battle.

"Let's give em a battle, Pikachu!" Mew says, and Pikachu charges in.

Mary calls out, "Fluffy, use Headbutt!"

Mew calls you, "Watch out, Pikachu!"

However, Fluffy manages to hit Pikachu

"Good work, Fluffy!" Mary says, "Now use your Growl attack!"

Fluffy uses Growl attack, sending Pikach back.

Mew calls out, "Pikachu!"

Flappy continues to use the Growl Attack, hurting Pikachu's ears

Then Mary calls out, "Fluffy, use Swift attack!"

Fluffy performs Swift Attack.

"Look out, Pikachu!" Mew calls out.

But Fluffy's attack lands.

Mew calls out, "Pikachu!"

Then Mary calls out, "Fluffy, Thunder Shock attack!"

Fluffy then launches the attack.

Then Mew calls out, "Pikachu, you use your Thunder Shock, too!"

Pikachu then launches the attack.

Soon, both attacks collide, resulting into a standoff

"Come on! Don't give up, Fluffy!" Mary calls out.

Soon enough, Pikachu begins to show signs of exhaustion.

Mew notices it and calls out, "Pikachu, stop Thunder Shock!"

Pikachu does so and goes on the evasive defense.

"Great! Just keep it up, Fluffy! We're winning!" Mew says.

Then Pikachu continues to dodge the attack.

"Fluffy, stronger now! Turn up the power!" Mary says.

Fluffy does so, however, something's wrong.

Mew notices it, "Mary, no!"

Soon, Fluffy collapses from exhaustion.

"Fluffy!" Mary calls out.

Everyone rushes over to check on Fluffy.

"What happened? Fluffy, you have to get back up!" Mary asks, concerned.

Mew looks at Fluffy's face and says, "Fluffy used up all its energy attacking."

"It did?" Mary asks.

"Don't worry, it'll be fine if you give it a nice rest," Mew says.

"That's good," Mary says in relief.

She then realizes something and asks, "I don't understand something." and thinks back when Mew tells Pikachu to stop using the attack, "Why did you stop Pikachu?"

"Oh, cause Pikachu was getting all worn out," Mew answers, and thinks of earlier in the afternoon, "He was using its energy all afternoon watching the Mareep. If I had kept up with that electric attack, Pikachu would get exhausted, and I didn't want that to happen to one of my buddies."

"Pikachu. (Exactly.) Pikachu says.

"I never thought of that," Mary says, then looks at Fluffy, "I only thought about winning. Fluffy was doing such a great job, and it looked like we were ahead. I wanted to win the battle so much that I forgot about Fluffy. I thought I was just being tough, like a Pokemon trainer should be."

Then looks at Fluffy with teary eyes, "Poor Fluffy," and hugs Fluffy, "I'm sorry."

Then Mew says, "You know, I think the important thing for a trainer to remember is why a Pokemon battles."

"I thought attacks are important," Mary replies

"They are," Mary says, "But a Pokemon loves to battle because it loves to win for its trainer. They think of us so we should always think of them. You're right. You know everything!"

"Trust me, even though I have some hiccups, I'm still learning and that's one of the things to do is learn from your mistakes and do better," Mew says.

Pikachu and Eevee agree.

"Come on, let's go wash up for dinner," Mew says.

"Okay," Mary says.

Later in the night, dinner is ready and everyone is about to eat

"Well, everything's ready. Time to dig in," Ellen says.

"Wow! This smells great!" Tomo says.

"It all looks so perfect it's almost a shame to eat it," Misty says.

"Thank you, Misty. But food's meant to be eaten, not watched," Ellen says.

"Yeah. Let's eat," Mew says.

And soon everyone begins to eat, and Brock says, "Pass those potatoes, please."

As everyone has dinner, Ellen heads upstairs to Mary's room.

Ellen calls out, "Come on, Mary! Dinner's on the table and everybody…"

But notices Mary is not in her bed.

She soon turns her head to her right to hear Mary's voice, "I'm real sorry, Fluffy."

Petting Fluffy, Mart says, "I made you battle too hard today. You see, I thought we were both ready to be in the festival battle, but now I know I was just dreaming."

Fluffy baas in reply.

Then Mary says, "Oh, I know you're ready, Fluffy, I'm the one who's not ready to battle in the festival yet. Battling with Mew showed me I have a lot to learn as a trainer."

Fluffy lays her head on Mary's lap.

Then Mary says, "From now on, I'm gonna think about your feelings first, and make sure I don't make you battle too hard. Maybe we'll battle next year."

Later that night, dark clouds roll into the sky and the wind begins to pick up. Ellen lights up the lanterns in the house, waking everyone.

"Is something the matter?" Brock asks.

"I'm so sorry to wake you up, but we really need your help right now," Ellen says.

Soon, everyone heads out, leaving Pichu and Togepi in bed, still asleep. Once outside, Raichu leads them and the flock somewhere.

Ellen calls out, "Go ahead, Raichu! We'll be right behind you!"

Raichu goes on ahead.

"I see why we're here," Brock says, understanding.

Then Ellen says, "A good electrical storm gives us a chance to get the Mareep in top condition by letting them take in lots of electricity to help their fleeces look great and get them all charged up for the festival."

"The Mareep will look all fluffy just like Fluffy," Mew says,

Soon, everyone nears a cliff.

"Don't get too close to the edge," Ellen says.

Everyone reaches near the cliff. Soon, Raichu starts sparking and senses something

"Okay," Ellen says.

The Mareep soon senses it coming.

"It's coming, mommy!" Mary says.

Soon, everyone takes cover behind the rocks.

"The lightning's beautiful, but extremely dangerous, so stay covered!" Ellen says

Soon, the lightning bolt comes down on the Mareep, making their wool extra puffy.

"Look at that!" Mew says.

Even Fluffy and the littlest Mareep gets puffier.

"Fluffy…" Mary says.

Soon, the storm fades

"The storm's over," Mary says.

"It was quite a show," Ellen says.

"It sure was. And the Mareep really loved it," Mew says.

"Yeah," Brock says.

"And look how pretty their fleece is! It's all sparkly," Misty says,

Soon, the littlest Mareep runs to Jen to show off her sparkling Fleece.

Jen giggles, "I agree, you look very lovely."

The littlest Mareep nuzzles Jen with glee. Then reaches into her fleece and brings something out.

"What is it?" Jen asks.

Then places the object down to Jen. Jen picks up the object that seems to be white with yellow, red, and orange spiral on the inside.

"What is that?" Jen asks.

Suddenly, a net comes down, catching the Mareep, including Jen and little Mareep.

"Jen!" Tomo calls out.

Mary asks, "Mommy, what's happening?!"

"Who... are they?" Ellen asks.

Soon, it's revealed that Team Rocket has captured the Mareep with a net under their balloon, and carried them up. With their laugh, Team Rocket performs their motto.

Jessie:

Prepare for trouble! And bully for us!

James:

Make it double! Now it's wooly for us!

Jessie:

To protect the world from devastation!

James:

To unite all peoples within our nation!

Jessie:

To denounce the evils of truth and love!

James:

To extend our reach to the stars above!

Jessie:

Jessie!

James:

James!

Jessie:

Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light!

James:

Surrender now or prepare to fight!

Meowth:

Meowth, that's right!

"It's Team Rocket!" Mew and her friends call out.

Jessie laughs, "Isn't it way past your bedtime, twerp?"

"No, but it may be too late for you!" Mew says.

Then calls out, "Pikachu, Thunderbolt 'em! Eevee, use Swift!"

"Pika!" (On it!) Pikachu says and jumps off Mew's shoulder.

"Eevee!" (You got it!) Eevee says, and joins Pikachu.

However, Team Rocket extends a grabbing device to grab both Pokemon.

"We got you, Pikachu!" Team Rocket says.

Soon, reel both in the balloon and put them in a cage.

"That was easy," James says.

"We did it!" Jessie happily cheers.

Pikachu and Eevee cry out for help.

"We'll save you!" Mew calls out.

Then Ellen turns to her Raichu, "Raichu, use your Thunderbolt!"

Raichu uses Thunderbolt, but the bolt hits a panel on the front of the balloon basket, chasing the lights to activate.

"Raichu really hit the spot!" James says.

"Yes. The energy panel on our balloon helps brighten things up. Flashing lights are very flattering," Jessie says.

"'Specially when they're off," Meowth says.

Ellen turns to Raichu, "Hurry, Raichu! We have to stop them! Maximum power!"

Raichu cranks up the voltage.

"They're having an energy crisis," James says.

Then Meowth says, "It'll take a lot more than that little Raichu to short circuit this baby.

"Sorry, Raichu!" Jessie says.

Raichu cranks up the voltage to maximum power, taking out the energy panel and the lights around the balloon. Suddenly, the blown out light sparks, and causes the balloon to catch on fire, and then crashes to the ground, causing the flock to be free and Pikachu and Eevee cage for flying until two Mareep give them a soft landing.

"It worked!" Mew says.

Everyone soon heads down.

Mary follows, "Fluffy!"

Soon, Raichu collapses from exhaustion

"Poor Raichu, rest now. I know that took everything out of you," Ellen says.

Soon, Team Rocket emerges from the balloon unscathed, but James' pants catches fire.

"Alright! If you want a battle, you'll get one!" Jessie says, and calls out, "I choose you, Arbok!"

Then James calls out, "Go get em, Weezing!"

Soon, both Pokemon come out into the battle.

Ellen calls out, "Alright, Mareep, Growl attack, now!"

The Mareep flock gather together and use the attack, causing Arbok and Weezing to back up.

Then Ellen calls out, "Now, Thunder Shock!"

The Mareep flock combines their electric attacks and fires.

But Meowoth holds up the energy panel, "Luckily, this energy panel does double duty."

The attack hits the panel, blocking the attack.

"You're brilliant, Meowth," James says.

"Nice work!" Jessie says.

"This side's an energy reflector!" Meowth says.

Soon, the Mareep flock begins to weaken.

Brock calls out, "Mew! They need a lot more power! They need Pikachu!"

"I know! But this thing won't open!" Mew says, trying to break the lock of the cage with a rock.

Suddenly, Fluffy and the littlest Fluffy get in front of the group.

"Fluffy?" Mary says.

Even Jen is surprised, "Little Mareep."

Fluffy and Little Mareep nod at Mary and Jen, saying that they have a plan.

"Oh, I understand now!" Mary says.

Then calls out to her mom, "Mommy! Make the other Mareep aim their electricity into Fluffy and little Mareep!"

"But why?" Ellen asks.

Mary calls out, "Hurry!"

It's worth a try," Ellen says, and calls out to the flock, "Alright, everyone, you heard what Mary said!"

The whole flock divert their electrical power to Fluffy and the little Mareep, causing their fleece to grow extra large.

"Okay, Fluffy," Mary calls out.

"Little Mareep," Jen says.

Then they both say, "Use your Thunder Shock, now!"

Fluffy and Little Mareep strike at Team Rocket with full force and ease. Meanwhile, Mew is able to free Pikachu and Eevee.

Mew calls out, "Pikachu, Eevee, Finish them off!"

Both Pokemon adds their attacks, and send Team Rocket blasting off

Team Rocket cries out, "Team Rocket's blasting off again!"

Arbok and Weezing then chase after their trainers.

"We did it!" Mew says.

"That was great, Fluffy!" Mary says.

"You too, little Mareep," Jen says.

"From now on, we should call Team Rocket Team Shock-it!" Brock says.

Everyone begins laughing as Ellen watches on.

The next day, Ellen gives her daughter something.

"Mommy, it's a Pokéball!" Mary says.

"Yes, I know, Mary. And I think it's about time you have it," Ellen says.

Mary then takes the Pokeball.

"Grandma gave it to me when I was a little girl. Maybe you can use it in the festival battle," Ellen says.

Mary asks in surprise, "You mean it?"

"Isn't that great?" Misty says.

"We'll be rooting for you," Mew says.

The Pokemon are happy.

"Thanks, Mew. And thank you, mommy," Mary says.

Ellen nods her head with a smile.

Then turns to Jen, "And Jen, a little someone likes to come with you."

Soon, the littlest Mareep walks to Jen and nuzzles her.

"Really?" Jen asks.

"Yes, the little one has grown attached to you, that mommy and I agree for her to come with you," Mary says.

"Wow. thank you," Jen says.

Then turns to little Mareep, "Here that, we're going to be good friends."

Then shows the group what Mareep gives to her.

"Oh yeah, little Mareep gave me this," Jen says.

"Well, looks like the little one gave you an Ampharosite," Ellen says.

"A what?" Jen asks.

"It's a Mega Stone that will help Ampharos mega evolve," Ellen says.

Jen smiles and pet Mareep, "Thank you Mareep. Maybe when you evolve, we can use the stone."

Little Mareep baa happily.

Later, at the festival, Mary is on the field ready to battle.

Ellen calls out, "Come on, Mary! You can do it! You're the best!"

"Go, girl!" Misty calls out.

"She'll be just great," Brock says.

Mew, Tomo, and Jen cheer, "Yay, Mary!"

Even the Pokemon cheer, (Let em have it!)

Mary brings out the Pokeball and calls out, "I choose you, Fluffy!"

Fluffy comes out of the Pokeball.

Everyone begins to cheer for Mary as she begins to battle with Fluffy. And it shows that both Mareep and Fluffy will be a great team. And after that, they'll be on their way, headed for Azalea Town, and the next Johto League gym.
