Seeing Evan's arrival, the three individuals working on energy cubes briefly glanced up before resuming their tasks without further acknowledgment.
Evan didn't bother them either and quietly began her own work on the other side.
He gathered all the leaves collected from Exeggutor and carefully cleaned them. Afterward, he chopped the leaves into small pieces and tossed them into a blender. Once everything was ground into fine crumbs, Evan added Tolkowsky to the mix and filtered it several times, resulting in a thick liquid.
This viscous mixture would turn into jelly in about ten minutes if left unattended, so Evan needed to act quickly. He began by adding the honey harvested from Beedrill. Then, he instructed the Scythers to slice some tree fruits into small pellets. The type of tree fruit didn't matter; any variety would suffice for his purposes.
His goal was to create a Pokémon-friendly jelly. The key ingredients were Exeggutor's green leaves and the honey. The juice extracted from the leaves had a naturally bitter taste, but when combined with honey and a bit of Bounsweet juice, the flavor transformed into something much more appealing. The addition of various tree fruits further enhanced the jelly's texture and sweetness.
The process was simple and didn't require cooking or additional steps. Once the mixture was ready, Evan poured it into a basin and smiled at the green, gelatinous substance.
After waiting for a few minutes, the jelly would be ready to cut into pieces, resembling konjac, to feed the Pokémon.
When Isla saw what Evan had made, she stopped in her tracks, looking perplexed.
"Brother Evan, is this really all it takes?" she asked, puzzled. "You're not going to cook or bake it?"
Evan chuckled at her confusion. "The leaves of Exeggutor are naturally edible," he explained. "Grass-eating Pokémon love them, and other Pokémon can enjoy them too—though the taste might not be appealing on its own."
He continued, "Once you squeeze the juice, it thickens on its own and turns into jelly. Adding honey improves the flavor, and no additional steps are necessary. High-quality ingredients often shine best with the simplest methods."
Isla nodded, processing the information. "So, this is like a Pokémon's version of jelly?"
"Exactly," Evan confirmed. "It doesn't boost any attributes, but it's a treat they'll enjoy. If you'd like, you can even try some—it tastes great!"
Isla was surprised. This was the first time she had encountered such an idea. In truth, Evan had only learned this method through the knowledge imparted by the system. Otherwise, who would've thought to use Exeggutor's leaves this way?
She placed the basin of jelly aside to solidify, noting that Ice-type Pokémon could expedite the process by freezing the jelly. Once firm, it could be cut into pieces and fed to Pokémon, who would likely enjoy the chilled treat.
As the jelly solidified, Evan turned his attention to Isla and the others. "How's the progress on your energy cubes?"
Hearing the question, Isla eagerly pointed to the freshly made energy cubes and said, "Here they are!"
"Brother Evan, take a look," Isla said nervously. "See if it passes."
She felt she had done well but wasn't sure if it would meet Evan's standards.
Evan followed her gesture, examining the freshly made energy cubes. After studying them for a moment, he touched his chin thoughtfully and nodded.
"They're very close to being perfect," he said. "But your temperature control is off. You probably put them into the oven before it had cooled properly, right?"
Isla blinked in surprise, then nodded slowly. "Yes, that's exactly what I did."
"That's the issue," Evan explained. "For this type of energy cube, the oven needs to go from cold to hot. If it's warm when you start, the baking process isn't optimal, and you'll end up with some flaws. Just pay attention to this next time, and you'll get it right."
Isla considered his words, her face lighting up with understanding. "I see now."
Daniel and Michael, who had been working nearby, also nodded in agreement. They glanced at their own energy cubes, realizing Evan's point.
Even without Evan's critique, they could tell theirs weren't perfect either. While they might be acceptable to most people, Evan's high standards meant they didn't qualify as finished products. They didn't mind, though, and set their cubes aside, preparing to start fresh.
These particular energy cubes were designed for Bug-type Pokémon, and their Scythers had already been fed earlier. As a result, they weren't concerned about using these cubes for feeding right now. Spending time with their Pokémon over the past few days had fostered a strong bond, and the Pokémon had come to trust and accept their trainers.
Evan shared a few more key tips with the group before checking on the jelly he had prepared. Poking the green jelly revealed that it had set to the perfect elastic consistency. Satisfied, he grabbed a knife and began slicing it into small, uniform pieces.
The jelly resembled burning fairy grass in texture and appearance. Tasting a piece, Evan found it sweet with a slight bitterness, creating a surprisingly pleasant flavor. Confident there were no issues, he transferred the jelly into several large bowls meant for Pokémon.
The large pot of jelly filled over a dozen bowls, with plenty left over. He kept a portion for later and planned to share the rest with the Pokémon outside. Once everything was ready, Evan called out to the Scyther and Roselia who had been helping nearby.
"There's jelly here—come and enjoy it. Thank you for your help," he said warmly.
The Pokémon perked up at his words, eagerly gathering around. Their enthusiasm brought smiles to Isla and the others.
"Go ahead," Isla encouraged. "We'll keep things going here."
The Scyther and Roselia dashed over, each grabbing a bowl. The sweet taste brought instant joy, and their delighted expressions made Evan smile.
After ensuring these helpers were fed, Evan prepared a tray with more bowls of jelly and carried it to the lobby. He placed some in front of Lurantis and Mr. Mime, who were cleaning nearby, letting them have a break and enjoy the treat.
Finally, Evan headed to the backyard to call Gardevoir, ensuring every Pokémon was included in the feast.
