Chapter 78: Chapter 78: The Buster Call!
Not everyone is as noble and fearless as Professor Clover and Olvia.
Even the residents of Ohara, including the scholars who had followed Professor Clover for many years, fled after saying their goodbyes.
However, Robin refused to leave no matter what. In the end, she was forcibly carried away by Capone Bege.
Now, only Karl, Professor Clover, and Olvia remained on Ohara.
"Captain Karl, could you explain to me why you're helping us?" Professor Clover asked.
"Isn't it obvious? Though you've made mistakes and provoked the World Government's wrath, resulting in the Buster Call, those people are innocent. While I am also a member of the Navy, I can't bear to see those innocent lives lost. That's why I'm here, to do my best to rescue everyone here. But as for the Void Century, it has already been erased, so let it remain erased. The reappearance of such knowledge may not be a good thing. Moreover, the time isn't right. If the truth of the Void Century is revealed now, it could have the opposite effect."
Upon hearing Karl's explanation, Professor Clover sighed. Olvia, however, was puzzled by Karl's reasoning.
"Captain Karl, I have a question. Why do you keep emphasizing that the time isn't right? Wouldn't it be better if the Void Century was exposed to the world? Perhaps there's some earth-shattering secret hidden in it."
"You're over-simplifying things. The World Government is too powerful now. Even if you uncover the Void Century, with your strength, how likely is it that you can spread it? And, since you haven't fully deciphered it yet, the Buster Call arrived, doesn't that make you see the reality?"
Karl shook his head. His words left Olvia speechless, unsure how to respond.
Professor Clover let out a long sigh and turned to gaze at the Tree of Knowledge.
"Based on my guess, what the Five Elders wants to hide is the truth that could shake the very foundation of the World Government. But there's no use in talking about it now. Captain Karl is right. Even if we truly decipher the Void Century, we lack the ability to spread it. However, Capone Bege's speech earlier gave me a new hope. I never imagined that a mafia boss would have such thoughts. It truly makes one reflect."
Hearing Professor Clover's reflection, Karl smiled silently.
He wouldn't mention that those ideas had been instilled in Capone Bege by him.
"It's almost time for me to leave. Since you two are ready to face death, follow through with the plan."
With that, Karl left.
Even though Sakazuki already knew he was here, there could be no evidence left behind.
This was also the reason he hadn't moved Ohara directly.
If evidence were left behind, even with Sengoku, Garp, and Zephyr as his backers, the Five Elders would eventually target him, and that would be real trouble.
As long as Karl left no evidence, allowing others to guess and interrogate, he would never admit to his involvement.
Not long after Karl left, Professor Clover and Olvia personally set fire to the Tree of Knowledge.
Their expressions were complex.
Though the books and knowledge inside the Tree of Knowledge had already been taken by the villagers, the Tree itself would be gone from this day forward.
This saddened both of them.
In addition, the entire island of Ohara was set ablaze.
Flames roared, gradually spreading to every corner of the island!
Professor Clover and Olvia quietly arrived at the port to wait for the arrival of the Navy's Buster Call fleet.
It didn't take long for the fleet to arrive.
They were remarkably fast, especially since every ship had a massive flame thrower attached to it.
This was a temporary modification, with fuel provided by Sakazuki himself.
Sakazuki was willing to risk everything for this mission, using himself as a tool to complete it as quickly as possible.
Kuzan, watching from the side, couldn't intervene and could only let Sakazuki do as he pleased.
Saul was also anxious, fearing Karl hadn't managed to get everyone to safety and might still be discovered by Sakazuki.
If they were caught, no matter how justified they were, it would be difficult to explain.
Furthermore, disobeying military orders was a grave crime in itself.
"Report! Two individuals spotted at the port, one of whom is Nico Olvia, with a bounty of 79 million berries!"
"Wait, did you say it's Nico Olvia?!"
Upon hearing the messenger, Saul immediately rushed to the bow of the ship and saw Olvia standing there, calmly awaiting her death.
Behind her, the towering flames were visible!
"Damn it, what a criminal! She's taking matters into her own hands! All Navy personnel, prepare to fire at any moment!"
"Understood!"
With Sakazuki's command, all the Navy's ships aimed their cannons at Ohara.
Now, as soon as the overall commander, Spandine, gave the order, they would open fire and wipe out the entire island of Ohara!
"Spandine, it's time to give the order!"
Sakazuki's expression was grim, causing Spandine to hesitate.
"Uh… Sakazuki, maybe we should wait a little longer?"
"No need to wait. Initiate the Buster Call. If those two die here, it's their own doing. It has nothing to do with us!"
Sakazuki snorted, deeply disgusted by Saul and Kuzan's actions.
Spandine swallowed nervously before trembling as he picked up the Den Den Mushi to initiate the Buster Call.
With the order given, nearly a hundred Navy warships fired simultaneously!
A torrential rain of cannonballs fell from the sky, striking the already burning island of Ohara, causing violent explosions!
But that wasn't all.
One round of cannon fire after another rained down, bombarding the small island relentlessly.
Even the massive Tree of Knowledge was covered by the unrelenting artillery!
Suddenly!
The Tree of Knowledge collapsed with a deafening roar.
The soaring flames screamed, almost as though announcing its unwillingness.
The bombardment continued.
The flames continued to spread.
Only the port of Ohara remained the sole place of safety.
