Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Kaido! I’m Setting Sail!
Ashura Doji watched as their figures gradually disappeared into the distance. Clutching his injured shoulder, he weakly sank into a crouch.
"Boss Ashura Doji!"
"I'm fine…"
He waved dismissively at his subordinates, signaling that it wasn't anything serious. But despair gripped his heart.
"Under Kaido's protection, that brat Jack is bound to grow stronger."
"And those two women… their strength is not to be underestimated either."
"The Land of Wano…"
"Let it be destroyed!"
Kaido continued walking with Jack for a while. Soon, two figures appeared ahead—Yamato and Black Maria.
"Jack! Are you okay?"
"Idiot Jack!"
One after the other, they ran up to him. Jack wrapped his right arm around Yamato and casually pulled Black Maria close with his left, resting it on her slender waist. The soft fragrance of the girls was intoxicating, making him momentarily forget the pain of his wounds.
Just as Jack was relishing the moment, a dangerous aura swept over him. He looked up to see Kaido's thunderous expression, his face dark as a storm cloud, his bull-like eyes smoldering with an intensity that seemed ready to melt him. Jack quickly released Yamato, an awkward grin plastered across his face.
"We're still kids! Just kids! Only thirteen!"
"Hmph."
After returning to Bakura Town, Jack escorted Yamato and Black Maria to freshen up. Before he could catch a break, Kaido dragged him into a room.
"BANG!"
Kaido slammed the door shut and glared at Jack, his teeth grinding in frustration.
"Idiot Jack! Do you have any idea how dangerous it was today?!"
"If Blissgra hadn't sent word, you'd be dead meat!"
"But I'm still alive, aren't I? Kaido-sama, relax! What are you even trying to do?"
As Kaido loomed closer, Jack found himself cornered against the wall.
"What am I trying to do?" Kaido pulled out his spiked club, his voice eerily calm.
"Be smart about it."
"No! Kaido-sama, wait! That's your Hassaikai! It'll kill me!"
"I'm thirteen! Practically an adult! You can't treat me like this—it's a violation of my rights!"
"Rights?"
Kaido snorted and lifted Jack effortlessly, tossing him over his knee. He held the club threateningly, its jagged spikes glinting ominously.
"STOP! This is going too far! You'll kill me for real!"
"No use struggling!"
No matter how Jack squirmed, he couldn't break free from Kaido's iron grip. Eventually, he stopped resisting, tears of frustration streaming down his cheeks.
I'll remember this! Damn it, how many times has Kaido done this now? Seven? And what about King? Forget it… let's just round up to 10,086…
Afterward, Kaido, noticing Jack's battered state, allowed him a few days of rest before starting their latest "training exercise": extreme skydiving without parachutes.
One attempt, two attempts, three… at 6,000 meters, then 6,500, and finally 7,000 meters. It wasn't until Jack sustained minor injuries that Kaido declared the exercise a success. Overjoyed, he ordered a grand feast to celebrate.
The dinner was intimate—just Kaido, Jack, and two uninvited guests, Yamato and Black Maria, who had sniffed out the delicious aroma and joined in unannounced.
"This is so good! Delicious!" Yamato exclaimed, devouring her meal. "Why aren't you two eating? Try some—it's amazing!"
Jack and Black Maria exchanged helpless glances as Yamato continued her rampage. Kaido, his gaze warm with fatherly affection, kept piling food onto Yamato's plate.
Having cooked for Yamato a few times in secret, Jack had unwittingly spoiled her. When he later refused to indulge her requests, Yamato tattled to Kaido. This led to a series of interrogations, where King beat the recipes out of Jack, and Kaido even raided other nations to bring in chefs and fresh ingredients.
Over the past two years, the Beasts Pirates' meals had drastically improved. If not for the rigorous training regimen, Jack suspected he'd be as round as Queen by now.
While Yamato feasted, Jack and Kaido were engrossed in their drinks. Black Maria, on the other hand, hardly touched her food, claiming she was on a diet.
"Gulp, gulp, gulp…"
"Hic!"
Thanks to his enhanced physique and years of being force-fed drinks by Kaido and King, Jack's tolerance was formidable. At just thirteen, he could drink alongside Kaido and still remain standing.
At least, Jack thought so. Because when Kaido truly got drunk, the wolf fang club always came out. The most outrageous incident happened last year when Kaido, drunk with the Shogun, transformed into his dragon form and flew to Onigashima in the middle of the night. He missed his swing, almost flattening Jack instead of killing him outright.
What the hell, Kaido?! Getting drunk in Wano and running off to Onigashima just to wreak havoc?
Thankfully, no matter how drunk Kaido got, Yamato's stern voice could snap him out of it. Otherwise, Jack would have long since resorted to bunking in Yamato's room for safety.
"Jack! You've improved!" Kaido roared. "Your Immortal Body has broken through! You defeated a Tobiroppo last year. Keep this up, and you'll be my right-hand man!"
Jack sighed. Is that all you've got to say? The same spiel over and over again. Aren't you forgetting something, Kaido?
With a serious expression, Jack turned to Kaido and declared loudly, "Kaido-sama! I'm setting sail! You promised me! Don't tell me you've forgotten!"
"What? Setting sail? I want to go too!" Yamato exclaimed, dropping her chicken drumstick.
"Kaido-sama? Kaido-sama?"
"Zzz… zzz…"
Kaido's snores filled the room.
