Chapter 30: Chapter 30: I’ll Be Back
"Jack!"
"Don't come closer! Run! Blissgra, hold them back!"
Yamato and Black Maria had barely run a short distance when they heard the commotion. Seeing Jack's pitiful state, they tried to rush to him, but Blissgra's burly men restrained them with combined strength, turning tail and running.
Though Yamato and Black Maria were both Zoan-type Devil Fruit users, they were still young. Their powers didn't focus on brute strength like Jack's, and Blissgra's men were far stronger than average humans. Despite struggling with all their might, the two couldn't break free.
"Let me go! Let me go!"
"You bastards, let go of me! Do you even know who I am? I'm Kaido's daughter! I command you to release me!"
But Yamato's threats meant nothing to Blissgra's men. The Beasts Pirates respected strength above all else. Jack, having defeated several foolish challengers last year, had cemented his position as a true officer. Yamato and Black Maria, in contrast, were still in training, mere reserves. Naturally, Blissgra's men prioritized Jack's orders over theirs.
In fact, the more Yamato shouted about being Kaido's daughter, the faster Blissgra's men ran. If Jack died, they had no idea what punishment awaited them—but if Yamato died here too, their fates were sealed. Kaido was not a merciful captain, his attacks often sent unlucky victims to months of bedrest after a drunken rage.
"Jack! Jack!"
"Just go! Don't worry about me!"
"No! No, Jack!"
Their cries sparked a strange sense of familiarity in Jack. After a moment's thought, he snapped at them with a grumble:
"Will you shut up already! Just get out of here!"
"I'm not dying that easily!"
"Damn it!"
Jack turned back, only to curse loudly.
Taking advantage of his distraction, Ashura Doji, sword in hand, stood poised to strike. By the time Jack noticed something was wrong, it was already too late.
"I'm not fully skilled with this move yet, but it's enough to deal with you!"
"Die, brat!"
Jack was toast. He hadn't expected to meet his end like this. His Armament Haki had been depleted, leaving his neck vulnerable to serious injury earlier. His stamina was at its limit, and both his body and spirit were battered. Worst of all, he knew he couldn't dodge Ashura Doji's attack.
So this is it, huh? Fine. If I have to die, I just hope I get to reincarnate again. Maybe this time send me to some Sekirei or Kantai Collection world. Heck, if you're feeling creative, toss me into a monster girl world—I wouldn't complain.
Closing his eyes, Jack raised his spiked club, gathering the last remnants of his strength to meet Ashura Doji's strike.
"Oden Two-Sword Style!"
"Clang! Boom!"
At the last second, Kaido appeared, leaping in front of Jack to block the attack. Ashura Doji's forehead beaded with sweat upon seeing him.
Kaido turned his head, glancing down. Jack quickly withdrew the club he had reflexively swung into Kaido's back. Thank goodness his Armament Haki had been depleted, or else that strike might've...well...
Not that it would've mattered much.
"Crack..."
Kaido tilted his neck, the sound making Jack frown. His older brother's neck issues were clearly severe. Someone needed to get that man some therapy.
"So, you're Ashura Doji, huh? I remember you. Didn't think you'd know that move too." Kaido's voice dripped with disdain. "Too bad. You've got a shadow of Oden's technique, but none of his strength."
"Kaido!"
Ashura Doji's fury ignited at the mention of Oden's name. Memories of those despair-filled years resurfaced, his breathing ragged and chest heaving.
"That's Kaido!"
"Boss Ashura, let's run for it!"
A hundred thieves arrived, clearly frightened of Kaido, yet mustering the courage to surround him.
"Ashura Doji, I've let bygones be bygones. I even sent my men to invite you into the Beasts Pirates. You refused, and I didn't mind—I respected your skills. But you've crossed a line today."
Kaido's gaze darkened as he pointed to Jack.
"You shouldn't have harbored murderous intent toward one of my crew. In the past, you only taught them lessons. That, I could tolerate. But today, you've gone too far. Killing Jack is unacceptable."
"He may be a fool, but he's still my subordinate. And trying to kill my daughter? You've made me very angry."
Kaido's cold eyes bore into Ashura Doji. "Any last words?"
"Boss Ashura, let's fight him!"
"Don't bother, get out of here! I'll hold him off!"
"No way! Without you, we're as good as dead!"
Tears welled in Ashura Doji's eyes, but he shouted desperately: "Don't do this! Stay back!"
The thieves charged, swords drawn, only for Kaido to barely acknowledge them. Their attacks bounced harmlessly off his skin before he obliterated them with a single attack.
Seeing his men fall, Ashura Doji roared in anger, his blade shrouded in dark Haki as he lunged at Kaido.
But Kaido barely reacted, countering with another casual attack.
Ashura Doji's attack left a faint scratch, but Kaido's strike sent him flying, blood spraying like a burst dam.
Kaido shook his head, disappointed. "Pathetic. You're no Oden. You can't even muster the strength for another move like that."
