Chapter Twenty-Eight: Final Boss I
The huge Minotaur lifted its shaggy head, looking up at the group of adventurers. It snorted softly before glaring directly at Atlas.
Foolish invaders. You choose to not heed my warnings, and now you will die for your impudence.
The Minotaur faced the first obelisk, the ones with the Kobold Mindpiercer's around it.
End them quickly my fellow Mind Artists, and we will feast on their minds for weeks to come. The one in the black armor is especially resilient, but that just means he will taste that much sweeter when we finally kill him.
The kobolds shrieked in glee before they all faded slightly before appearing directly behind Lars, who stood at the front of the group. Their blades glowed with purple energy before they stabbed them towards Lars. Lars spun on his heels, holding his shield with both hands and shouting "Holy Shield!"
The shield exploded with light before glowing to hide the entirety of Lars six and a half foot frame behind its bulk, blocking all three of the Synaptic Backstab's aimed at him. The blades hit the shield and made it shudder, its light dimming slightly with each blow until it was barely shining at all. The kobold's blade bounced off, causing the kobolds to screech in anger. They went in for the attack again, only for a giant fireball to hit one, a giant cannonball to hit another, and a scythe to decapitate the last. Each of them died, but the one hit by Lesli's fireball took the longest to die, screaming in pure agony.
The Minotaur looked on in boredom. It waved its clawed hand and purple energy condensed around the first obelisk, and suddenly, all of the Mindpiercer Kobolds were back, fully alive and well. They turned and bowed to the Minotaur, each letting a screech of what sounded like gratitude.
The Minotaur smirked at the group, looking directly at Atlas once more.
I have the power to respawn each obelisk at least once, with each obelisk having one more respawn available to them. I can respawn the Mindpiercer four times. You have to face 4 waves of progressively more difficult fights before you can even face me. And I assure you, I am by far the most powerful of all these monsters. Good luck, because you'll need all the luck you can get.
Atlas gritted his teeth. They had to face three more waves before they could even begin to fight the final boss? What kind of garbage was this? He looked at his team and spoke softly. "We need to take them down with the most efficiency that we possibly can. Save your trump cards but use everything else. If you can use your skills that cost the least mana and stamina, this is a battle of attrition, we just have to hang in there until we can fight the Mindhorn."
Lars nodded, speaking at the same volume, he said, "I'll pull aggro, but I won't be able to hold off the three guardians and the mindpiercers at the same time. Atlas, can you deal with the Guardians? It would make my job a lot easier."
Atlas nodded. "On it." The Minotaur waved his hand again, and the Guardians lumbered towards them, the Mindpiercers appearing behind them so that they were all in formation.
Atlas paused, looking at Lars hesitantly. "What now?"
Lars grunted, scrunching his brow in thought. "Change of plans, get behind them and kill all of the Mindpiercers before they can attack us. Watch out for their blades, it weakens the skill with each hit. I got a notification saying that if Holy Shield was hit too many times, it would start to lose levels. Be careful out there or they will literally take away your skills."
Atlas nodded and Hyper Jumped behind the kobolds, Strength Form activated at full blast he bisected the first two kobolds before the third one was able to teleport away. Atlas spun quickly, expecting to find the kobold right behind him, but to his shock, the kobold was nowhere in sight. Atlas turned in a slow circle, brows furrowed in confusion.
Once he realized there was nothing nearby, he faced his team, only for his eyes to widen in surprise as he realized that the kobolds were all around his party, including the Mindpiercer. He cursed softly before using Hyper Jump to appear back in the fray, his scythe cutting through a guardian like a knife through butter. Atlas leapt forward using Defence Form to reflect one of the Guardians attacks back at it as it attempted to take advantage of Lesli's turned back, as she was facing off against the Mindpiercer kobold. It shrieked in pain before Atlas swung his scythe and ended its suffering with a single, well placed blow.

He used Speed Form to dash towards the next guardian. He scythe hit the guardian and caused it to flinch back, barely doing any damage. It took Atlas a second to realize what had happened, when he had, he used Strength Form to cut the guardian from shoulder to hip, severing its spine and causing it to collapse to the ground before dying from the loss of connections to its brain and heart, as well as its mutilated lungs.
Atlas turned back to help his team finish the last two monsters, only to find that they had already been dealt with. He smiled and turned to the Minotaur, staring defiantly at its bright purple and pink eyes. The Minotaur merely grunted and waved its hand looking bored. Psionic energy gathered around the first two obelisks and the Mindpiercers and the Guardians were resurrected. The Mindhorn flashed its teeth at the party.
One more wave complete. Two down, two to go. Hurry up, because I'm getting bored waiting for you to get through my much weaker brethren.
Atlas ground his teeth in annoyance. This Minotaur was beginning to get on his nerves. Why couldn't it just have them all come at it instantly and get this all over with?
They had a few seconds to plan, and they made quick use of them.
Lars looked at them each in turn. "Atlas, you have the highest mental resistance, so you go after the Mindbreakers. Lesli and Dane, you guys deal with the Mindpiercers, Me and Nex will deal with the Guardians. If you finish early, Atlas goes to the Mindpiercers, Lesli and Dane go to the Guardians, if were done with the Guardians and the Mindpiercers, then we help Atlas last if he hasn't managed to kill all of the Mindbreakers for whatever reason. Got it?" Once everyone nodded in agreement, they all got ready.
When the Minotaur waved its hand, the kobolds moved. The Guardians charged forward with the Mindpiercers right behind them, and the Mindbreakers started to head towards the Guardians. "Oh no you don't." Atlas growled to himself, using Hyper Jump to appear in the midst of the Mindbreakers. He shifted his hands so that his hands held the bottom of the scythe, spinning in a circle and killing two of the three kobolds. The last kobold used a spell, but Atlas had his Everflame Core so it simply sloughed off. He leapt forward, kicking the kobolds in the chest and sending it flying. Atlas's shoe hit the kobold far harder than he had anticipated, and the kobold's chest caved in, and its eyes glazed over its body convulsing before coming to a stuttering stop.
Atlas was surprised, but he spun on his heels, Hyper Jumping over to the Mindpiercers, of which there were now only two. He cut off the first one's head and kicked the other one squarely in the chest, causing a repeat of what had happened to the last Mindbreaker. He ran after the Guardians, only to find two of them lying dead, their eyes lifeless and uncaring. The last one was fighting against Lars, whose shining sword dealt large chunks of damage with each blow. Each hit made him take a little damage because of the Guardians Kinetic Redistribution, but Nex was healing him through all of it. He swung his sword, hitting the kobold in the side and cutting a good half foot into its body. He stepped back, letting the kobold collapse and bleed out quickly.
The Minotaur waved its hand and then all the kobolds were resurrected, just like the other two times.
You stand before the last wave of my brethren. Can you succeed or will you falter in the moment of great peril? I personally wish you to succeed. It will be so much more satisfying to kill you by my own hand, which you almost certainly will.
Atlas and the other regrouped, and they quickly talked over their plan. "Same as last time." Lars said, "The only difference is that Dane will switch with me and I will fight against the Mindhunters."
Dane nodded and quickly began chanting, summoning his Life Golem from the Life Realm. It only took a minute, and by the end the Minotaur was smiling, as he waved his hand exactly as the Golem appeared.
Atlas used Hyper Jump once more, brushing aside a notification telling him it had leveled up once, putting him at level 7 in the skill. He beheaded the first kobold, punched the second, and threw his scythe at the final one, planting the blade firmly in its back. Pulling it out, he Hyper Jumped over to the Mindpiercers, dealing with the final two as before, with no major hiccups.
He turned and helped Dane and Nex finish off the Guardians. He looked over at Lars to see how he was doing, only to see him convulsing violently on the ground. Atlas cried out in shock before using Hyper Jump to appear in front of Lars, and he made quick work of the Mindhunters, cautiously dodging a bolt of psionic energy that shot at him, as he didn't want to end up like Lars, no matter how unlikely it was that it would effect him. When they were all nothing more than sacks of meat, he turned to Lars, helping him stand up. Nex rushed over, and began healing him before Lars waved her off. "It's not physical damage, but mental damage. I just need time."
Time you don't have. It is time, worthless intruders, for you to face a being more powerful than you can imagine. Well, all but one of you, who has seen a being far more powerful than I could ever hope to be. But no worries, I have plans for you.
As he said this, he stared directly at Atlas, and he knew exactly what he was talking about. Atlas had met two beings at the god level. God Atlas and Shackled Atlas. Both of them had the power to shake the heavens, but Shackled Atlas was far more powerful than God Atlas, so that's who Atlas assumed the Minotaur was talking about.
The obelisks all shuddered, before collapsing, cutting off the power surrounding the Minotaur.
Finally, I am free. Now it is time for me to feast on the essence of your brains.
