Nothing is Impossible

Chapter Thirty-Three: Skill Planets II

Shocked with this new revelation, Atlas tried to pull himself back together, but he was terrified at the thought that he could lose his hard earned skills here.

Atlas suddenly paused, considering. Were they really hard earned? Had he really tried as hard as he could to get these skills to their current level? In some cases, it was a resounding yes, but these were the same skills that he didn't need to worry about losing, at least from how he understood the threads with his small amount of knowledge on the subject.

With hope and determination now filling him, Atlas looked around at the skill planet he was currently on to get his bearings. He was currently on Inevitable Death, a very potent skill, but one far too connected to death for his liking.

He easily found the thread connecting the skill to the system, and he was surprised whenever he found that it wasn't nearly as large as the last one had been, maybe only a 10th of the size, still quite large, but not ridiculous in size.

Atlas pressed his will against the thread, defeating it easily with his determination making his will far stronger than it had been even a few moments previously. Someone's willpower was highly reliant on their current emotional state. Atlas was currently in a good spot after overcoming some obstacles and firming himself, causing him to be in a great mental spot for battles of will.

He then went to the largest thread, the thread that held the concept of death. Atlas took a deep breath as he stared up at the massive weaving of conceptual energies. He mentally imagined the thread dissolving, becoming a thread of the same size, but with one large difference, it was now devoted to the void instead of death.

When his mental image was clear, he acted upon it, willing the thread to shift and change, becoming something new but still very potent. Atlas felt something within himself shift, and a message appeared.

You are about to fundamentally change yourself and your skills, do you wish to continue? Y/N (Selecting yes will permanently change ALL Death Nexus Lines to Void Nexus Lines in each Skill Planet.)

Atlas selected yes.

Archdragon of Death (Y) -> Archdragon of the Void {Broken} (Y)

Wincing slightly at the breaking of one of his best skills, he pressed on, moving to the Spell Crafting Skill Planet.

Atlas found himself in the largest forest of threads he could ever imagine. There were every conceivable type of mana, glyphs, runes and all other sorts of spell related concepts.

He sighed in annoyance as he wandered through the forest for multiple hours, even trying to find the system's thread but not managing to find it amidst all the threads absolutely everywhere.

He wandered for many more hours, slowly getting more and more annoyed as time went on.

After one more hour, he realized he was back amidst the threads where he had begun. Atlas cursed and spoke to himself. "Why does magic have to be so complicated!"

In his annoyance, he continued on, deciding that if he couldn't, it wasn't big enough to notice so it wouldn't have too much of an effect.

He moved on to the next planet, Divine Sight, where there were only three threads. Sight, Divine and Connection, each in that order of size. After a shocked second, Atlas just moved on to the next planet, very happy with his skill.

The next skill planet was Archdragon of the Void.

There were 7 threads, Speed, Recovery, Strength, Defence, Magic and Experience, with System being the smallest thread, but still quite large.

Atlas squared his shoulders facing off against the thread and taking a deep breath to calm himself. He pressed his will down on the thread and tried his absolute best to will it out of existence.

Atlas felt the thread fight back, and for a few seconds they were locked in place, neither of them being able to gain the advantage. Atlas suddenly wondered if he would lose this and have to go against this thread multiple times, and just like that, his will weakened slightly and he was sent blasting back, landing heavily against the thread of Strength and spitting out a little bit of blood.

Message to the player: Because Archdragon of the Void is so powerful compared to your tier, it is much more difficult to affect it, and failing three times will result in the skill losing ranks. Times failed: 1/3

Atlas gulped, feeling immense pressure and annoyance. He would lose ranks off of his most devastating offence skill if he failed two more times? Atlas gulped before jumping back up and attacking the thread with his will once more, clashing with the thread and instantly losing, because of his volatile emotions.

Atlas lay on the ground, bleeding from a gaping wound in his chest that had been caused by the instant collapse of his willpower. It sewed itself together after a few brief moments, and Atlas felt at the skin on his chest, finding soft skin in its place. He raised a trembling hand to his face and tried to take deep breaths but found it very difficult to do. How could he beat the thread when it had already succeeded against him twice?

As he was struggling to breathe, he suddenly felt a sense of calm fill him, it came from his chest, in the center of his ribs, golden and red power glowed from within him. He smiled to himself. His Everflame Core was helping him maintain his will. He glanced at its skill planet and found it absolutely erupting with power and color. He pushed himself off of the ground and walked up to the thread, confidence practically emanating from him. He could do anything, he was Atlas Channing, and even the sky wasn't too strong for him to face.

The thread vanished like it had never even existed before.

Your Skill [Archdragon of the Void]'s nature has changed. But the skill itself hasn't.

Atlas smiled proudly.
