Chapter 585: Case Handover
After zoning out in the office for a while, Jimmy's office door was knocked, and Ruiz and Peter walked in from outside. Jimmy smiled and greeted them, "Why did you both come together? Sit down, have some tea."
Peter and Ruiz sat down, Jimmy handed them cups, and Peter said, "Jimmy, the drug smuggling case you mentioned last night is now being handled by Ruiz."
Jimmy: "Well, as long as someone is handling it, it's fine. It's a bit tricky on my end, I'm all alone, can't follow it all the way."
Ruiz: "Yes, it might involve the Black Diamond Gang this time, so we'll handle it. David will follow up. Do you want to merge the murder case on your side? They were also murdered because of smuggling."
Jimmy: "Are you leaving that guy Louis to you? And the three shooters in the hospital."
Ruiz nodded: "David also needs some practice. You should come over and synchronize the previous investigation situation with David later."
Jimmy: "What about you?"
Ruiz: "Let him follow up. I also need to gradually transition."
Jimmy looked at Peter: "Peter, have you confirmed the exact time on your end?"
Peter nodded: "I have to go to DC at the end of next week."
Jimmy: "OK, then I'll consolidate the report and give it to David together. By the way, Ruiz, what about Seventeen? He was also in the warehouse at that time."
Ruiz: "We'll see how things go. If things go smoothly this time, maybe he can come back."
Indeed, Seventeen isn't acting as a gang informant, but is an undercover arranged by the FBI.
This also explains why Jimmy was prevented from contacting Seventeen after seeing him for the first time due to the investigation.
These undercover people in the gangs are definitely in single-line contact for their safety, not allowing others to interfere. Strictly speaking, last time Ruiz introduced Seventeen to Jimmy, it was already against the rules.
Jimmy: "Yes, the main worry is that the murder case might implicate him."
Ruiz: "Don't worry, he wasn't involved at all, just watching from the side. He's also the basis for Louis to cooperate. If there's any anomaly, he's the best witness to put Louis in jail."
Jimmy nodded and looked at Peter: "Peter, have you decided who you'll bring to DC?"
Peter nodded: "I've already submitted it to DC for processing. By then, we can go together. Alright, finished with official business, let's talk some personal stuff. Jimmy, there's a gathering this weekend, you should join."
Jimmy thought over his schedule and nodded, "What time?"
Peter: "Friday night, we'll leave together after work."
Jimmy nodded. This should be a farewell party for Peter.
Ruiz: "OK, Jimmy, sort out the information as soon as possible. I'll have David do the handover with you promptly."
After seeing the two off, Jimmy cleaned up the tea set and returned to his desk to organize files.
In fact, his murder case has already been solved, the murderer is Marco, but who the three deceased were is really impossible to determine, because their physical characteristics and fingerprint information have been completely destroyed.
The only person who saw them, Marco, is dead too. No documents, no fingerprints. The only chance to confirm their identity is through DNA information, but without matching a reference from their direct relatives' DNA, there's no way to match them to specific people.
Jimmy organized the complete information, including fire scene photos and identification files, packed them into two large folders, and it was already afternoon.
He carried the files over to Ruiz's office, with David also coming in. Jimmy explained the files from beginning to end, marking the smooth transfer of this case.
Ruiz's office looks quite different, now many things are packed away, even the bookshelves are basically empty, it seems he's preparing to move offices himself.
David and Ruiz flipped through the files, nodded, and David took the files out, leaving only Jimmy and Ruiz in the office.
Ruiz: "How does it feel to start handling cases again?"
Jimmy chuckled a few times: "It's not bad. At least it's more comfortable than sitting in the office all day."
Ruiz: "Mrs. Mason gave you a good evaluation. If you stay there for a while longer, maybe you'll become a deputy spokesperson, who knows."
Jimmy: "Actually, being a spokesperson feels pretty good, although I've only done it once, but I still prefer handling cases, finding clues, capturing them, or taking them out."
Ruiz: "Well, as long as it's what you want. I heard from Dave that you might have some special tasks to do?"
Jimmy nodded: "Not certain what the task is yet. We'll see later. When did Dave say this?"
Ruiz: "Today at noon, and it's quite clear he has a good impression of you. I know you're a bit introverted, but still take opportunities to step forward. In the next few years, you might need to transfer abroad for a period; when the time comes, remember to build good relationships with others."
Jimmy was stunned, "Why?"
Ruiz: "Cross-department experience. Right now, you don't need to worry about it, but it's good to be mentally prepared."
Jimmy nodded, "Understood, it's too early to consider now. I haven't even been promoted to Supervisory Special Agent yet."
Ruiz smiled and waved him off, "Go back."
-----------------
In the evening, Jimmy and Nia talked about the details of their wedding preparation, including the suits and wedding dress. Jimmy's suit was fine, but Nia's wedding dress was troublesome. Besides the main wedding dress for the ceremony and photos, they need to prepare at least two backup dresses for reception and party occasions.
