Chapter 584: Outbreak of Anomalous Incidents? (Part 4)
The Church handles these events without notifying the FBI, so as an ordinary person, Dave actually finds it difficult to know the specific data.
Dave: "I understand, you mean if we encounter inexplicable anomalies, we should contact you for handling?"
Bishop Anderson: "Yes, I know your agents are very brave, but in certain cases, they are completely powerless against demons, and in such cases, you are also unable to resolve the issues."
Dave nods: "Agent Jimmy Yang is the head of our Homicide Team, if there are any particularly unusual murder cases, he will contact you."
Bishop Anderson: "Very pleased to meet you, Agent Yang."
Jimmy slightly bows: "It's an honor to meet you, Bishop Anderson. Who should I contact afterwards?"
Bishop Anderson: "Father Rodney will contact you shortly."
Jimmy: "Alright, it's a privilege to serve the Church."
Bishop Anderson: "Dave, if possible, I would like you to contact your headquarters to investigate anomalous situations in other areas."
Dave: "I will, if there's nothing else, we'll be heading back."
Dave and Jimmy stand up and bid farewell to Bishop Anderson, Jimmy takes out his business card from his pocket and hands it to Bishop Anderson, then they leave the church.
Without saying a word, they arrive at the parking lot, standing next to Dave's car, Dave looks at Jimmy, "Regarding this matter, you take charge of contacting the parish. You mentioned you can see some anomalies, so stroll around when you're free."
Jimmy: "Dave, I don't understand, why are we taking on such troublesome matters?"
Dave sighs, "Just like Bishop Anderson said earlier, in recent years these anomalies have become increasingly frequent. Headquarters has conducted statistics, and Hughes should have mentioned to you that we have a special task force dedicated to handling such anomalies, right?"
Jimmy nods: "I've heard, previously we even handed over a supernatural case."
Dave: "That group recently had personnel changes, we lost two special agents."
Jimmy: "How did that happen? I haven't heard anything about it."
Dave: "During an incident in Georgia, two agents died, and you should know that group only has six people."
Jimmy: "What case was it?"
Dave: "Possession by an evil spirit, capable of creating illusions that influenced those around. Before our team arrived, a local town police officer and four residents experienced hallucinations, leading to mutual killings under its influence. If it hadn't been for the local church priest reporting the anomaly, who knows how many more would have been affected."
Jimmy: "Were the two who died attacking each other?"
Dave: "Yeah, according to the report, they suddenly attacked each other after entering an abandoned house. If others hadn't been delayed, our losses would have been much graver."
In cases like this, headquarters reportedly encountered very few, and indeed, there's been a rise in anomalies recently. It's a pity you can only detect them but not eliminate these evil spirits like others, otherwise you could consider joining the special task force at headquarters."
Jimmy was a bit speechless, Dave and Hughes had distinctly different approaches, Hughes had explicitly told Jimmy not to inquire about those people or even think about joining them. But with Dave, he was regretting that Jimmy couldn't join.
Jimmy: "Alright, but such things are hard to detect, I usually have cases to handle and can't just roam around to find these anomalies."
Dave: "It's fine, just keep an eye on anomalous cases reported to the NYPD. I'll communicate with them too, and cases they can't handle will be referred to us."
Dave takes out his car keys from his pocket, "Alright, let's head back."
Jimmy nods, heading to his car. On the drive back to the office, Jimmy contemplates this situation. In fact, as Roland said before, they rarely needed to handle supernatural cases, and Bishop Anderson mentioned they've only been appearing frequently in recent years.
Anderson's words caught Jimmy's attention, he mentioned these incidents have increased since entering the 21st century, and Jimmy came to this world in 1999, coinciding with their so-called increase in anomalies.
Could it be that his arrival has caused the issues here?
Back at the office, Jimmy didn't feel like writing a report, so he sat on the couch, making tea and pondering.
Jimmy thoroughly reviewed incidents he had encountered over the years; there weren't many supernatural cases, maybe four or five. It didn't seem like much, but he didn't explore many places either, mostly just major cities and suburban cases like the one in Dallas, and helping Kevin's friend resolve an issue.
It's hard to define whether there's been an actual increase in supernatural cases, but it does make Jimmy ponder, especially considering two or three years ago when Roland returned to the Dark Tower World. Could it be related to Roland leaving?
Roland used to actively look for and handle these anomalous events. Could it be that these cases, which Roland would have handled, were left unresolved after he left, making others feel there were more supernatural incidents?
It does seem possible.
This is just a possibility, and perhaps analyzing national anomaly case data could reveal if it's related to Roland's departure.
Another aspect is analyzing if it concerns his arrival in this world.
Jimmy arrived in this world in September 1999. If it's indeed related to him, perhaps some area of this world has had issues, allowing Jimmy's soul to transition here, leading to the progressive loss of control in affected areas, causing a rise in supernatural incidents.
It's like Earth's protective layer has a small hole, expanding when Jimmy traveled here, which later spiraled out of control into a larger breach, resulting in other unknown causes that led to more fissures in different areas.
Jimmy's imagination ran wild, analyzing things alone without boundaries. From considering all known people, he felt both possibilities he considered were feasible.
Jimmy recalled the man, Jack Chambers. He was the last one to see Roland and informed Jimmy that Roland chose to return to his hometown to retire, and wouldn't return to Earth again. If he could visit Roland to confirm, he might determine whether these supernatural cases were related to him.
