Chapter 584: Outbreak of Anomalous Incidents? (Part 3)
Looking at the time, Jimmy immediately called Peter. Although he was acting, he had the authority. This time, he had to step forward and gather manpower. These people might need considerable time to handle this drug smuggling case.
Receiving Jimmy's call, Peter looked at Elizabeth with a helpless expression. He had less than two weeks before being transferred to Washington, D.C., and was currently planning future life in Washington, D.C. with Elizabeth at home. Suddenly, such a major case popped up, and the key was that the current investigation showed it couldn't be resolved in a short time.
Peter thought for a moment, directly called Special Agent in Charge (SAC) John Thompson, confirmed he was at home, got dressed, and left, leaving Elizabeth to continue planning their future life.
Since Peter's time at the Manhattan office was limited, for such a potentially long-term case, it was better for someone from above to handle it, or let the successor intervene in advance.
Peter knew that Ruiz would take over the supervisor position, but since it hadn't been announced, it wasn't appropriate to go directly to Ruiz, so it was most suitable to find his direct superior, John Thompson, first.
Thompson, after hearing Peter's report, agreed with Peter's suggestion to let Ruiz come over to intervene in advance after work starts.
This case was a bit troublesome. If it were just a drug case, many FBI groups could handle it. But this involved smuggling drugs hidden in imported furniture, possibly needing to contact the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP, part of the Department of Homeland Security since 2003) for assistance.
Involving multi-department collaboration, it was best to have stable personnel; otherwise, communication issues might arise between each other.
After throwing away his troubles, Jimmy finally had a good sleep, but unfortunately, others didn't sleep well.
A new drug route appeared. For drug lords, it was like a money-making route. Before the FBI discovered it, it was unknown how long they had been transporting this way. Now, based on import and export information, catching all the drug traffickers on a line would be daunting enough to make someone doubt life.
-----------------
In the morning, Jimmy opened the safe, took out the second 1875 to replace his Colt Python. This time there might be abnormal incidents, so it's better to change equipment. In addition, he took a small bag, packed with a .44 Magnum, and tossed it into his pocket. Jimmy thought about it and put on the cross necklace that had been stored in the safe for some time before going out to meet Dave.
This cross was given by Priest Horton from Dallas. Jimmy used to wear it for a period, but over time felt uncomfortable and then kept it in the safe for preservation.
At the entrance of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Jimmy stood waiting for Dave. There were still many tourists, and Jimmy blended in without drawing attention.
Dave arrived at the entrance on time, waved to Jimmy, and led him into the cathedral. However, they didn't follow the tourist route but bypassed them to the back area, which was not open to the public.
Dave greeted a man in a black bishop's robe, wearing a cross necklace: "Bishop Anderson."
Bishop Anderson smiled and greeted Dave and Jimmy, then led them to a lounge.
After taking a seat, Bishop Anderson said: "Thank you, Dave, you're a great help."
Dave: "You're welcome, Bishop Anderson. May I ask what brings us here this time?"
Bishop Anderson: "Since entering the 21st century, the number of abnormal events happening annually in our parish has been increasing. In recent years, we've lost several priests in exorcism battles. Especially recently, there have been several Evil Spirit incidents in New York State, and one of our priests has been called to God's side, returning to heaven."
Dave asked in surprise: "When did this happen?"
Bishop Anderson: "A week ago, near Rochester."
Dave: "May I ask what was the cause?"
Bishop Anderson: "We received reports of several abnormal events happening near Rochester. Some parishioners reported a soul-devouring demon appeared there. Priest Rossi went to investigate but lost contact after reaching out to us twice. Three days ago, his body was found.
We've already sent two other priests to investigate, but there are no results yet.
In fact, it's not just our parish; other parishes have also reported increasing Evil Spirit activities in recent years, adding pressure in various places. If the situation continues to deteriorate, we might not be able to timely expel these Evil Spirit activities, letting them appear in public sight, which would be a catastrophe."
Dave: "OK, so what can I do for you, Bishop?"
Bishop Anderson: "You know, although we have many parishioners, we can't obtain information promptly, so I hope you can pay attention to abnormal situations, especially those special reports. Evil Spirit activities are too dangerous for ordinary people; many could encounter all sorts of accidents without any resistance."
Dave glanced at Jimmy, then turned to Bishop Anderson: "Bishop Anderson, do you have the statistics for last year and this year?"
Bishop Anderson: "I understand your point. In fact, there are nearly twice as many Evil Spirit incidents this year compared to last year, though I can't tell you the exact number."
