Chapter 584: Outbreak of Anomalous Incidents?
Ruiz didn't greet Jimmy and the others directly but led Seventeen into a small room inside. After throwing Seventeen in, he came to Jimmy.
Jimmy poured him a glass of water and asked in a low voice, "Why did you bring him here?"
Ruiz also replied quietly, "We need to put enough pressure on Louis. Don't worry, I'm experienced in this sort of thing. Let's begin."
Jimmy nodded, holding the glass as he stepped out from behind the bar and sat down in front of Louis, Ruiz sitting next to Jimmy.
Jimmy: "You know Louis, right?"
Louis: "Agent Ruiz."
Jimmy: "Now that the gang's all here, you can go ahead with your deal."
When Louis saw Ruiz bringing Seventeen over, he knew trouble was brewing. Both of them had been at the scene back then, and now they've both been caught. Judging by the situation, Seventeen was caught even earlier than he was.
Not knowing what Seventeen might confess, or if he'd said anything at all, the prisoner's dilemma was a stark reality in front of him, causing him genuine anxiety as he contemplated his words carefully.
Louis was lost in his thoughts, while Jimmy and Ruiz remained unhurried, sipping their water slowly and waiting for Louis's decision.
Louis finally snapped back to attention, looking at Ruiz: "I can't go to prison."
Ruiz raised an eyebrow; his demand exceeded what Ruiz had considered, as he assumed Louis would want a witness protection plan, "Reason?"
Louis: "You're investigating the shooting case, right? I can give you the suspect, with both testimony and evidence."
Louis stopped glancing at Jimmy and instead focused on Ruiz, knowing who had the say in this. For someone like him, a gang member, Ruiz's position meant he had more authority over his case.
Ruiz: "I need evidence against Fat John."
Louis took a sharp breath, "No, that would get people killed."
Ruiz: "I can offer you and your family an option, to move away from New York."
Louis remained silent, his cheeks twitching slightly.
Ruiz looked at Jimmy, "Jimmy, step out for a moment."
Jimmy nodded, stood up from the table, and walked towards the manager's office inside. Isaac wasn't there, so the office was empty.
Jimmy wasn't sure who Fat John was, but judging by Louis's shocked expression, this was definitely a big fish.
It seemed like a good opportunity; Louis was likely a crucial figure that could allow Ruiz to achieve a major accomplishment before being promoted to supervisor. Or perhaps, David was lucky. Usually, a high-stakes case involving a crime family isn't solved quickly. Handling a major case right after joining the anti-gang unit could potentially lead to the destruction of a Mafia family. Such luck was truly incredible.
But it was frustrating, wasn't it? Following a case for days, only to suddenly lose it?
After a while, Jimmy's phone rang; Ruiz informed him to come back out and sit down at their table. Louis looked at Jimmy: "Marco is already dead, and his family was killed by him."
Jimmy: "Tell me the details."
Louis: "Marco was secretly collaborating with others on smuggling but didn't inform us. They got into a conflict with another group. Someone found Marco's house and tried to kidnap him, but he had friends there. So everyone who came to take him was killed. Unable to move the bodies of three people, they had no choice but to set the place on fire."
Jimmy: "What were they smuggling?"
Louis: "Luxury handbags and perfumes, things that don't take up much space, all counterfeit goods from Asia."
Jimmy: "A few fake bags and perfumes aren't worth killing over. You're lying."
Louis: "That's all we know now. I didn't even know Marco wasn't dead. I had people search all possible locations where he could be found until someone told me Marco had been closely involved with people from the Black Diamond Gang recently. So I reached out to the Black Diamond Gang's 'Wall', Charles Brooks, for help. He owed me a favor, so he helped me find Thomas's place, who was in contact with Marco."
Jimmy: "You mean the warehouse?"
Louis: "Yes, when we went in, we found Marco and Thomas, and they confessed to the smuggling."
Jimmy: "Why shoot him?"
Louis: "No, the handgun just went off by accident. Pointing the gun at them before was entirely an accident."
Jimmy: "You fired more than ten shots, and you still dare to claim it was an accidental discharge?"
Jimmy had overheard outside, though the sound was muffled, his hearing had slightly improved, and he heard the gunshots.
Louis went silent, "He was a traitor."
Fxxk! Honor killing, these gang members have lost their minds.
Ruiz, watching the exchange between Jimmy and Louis, suddenly interjected, "Was that Thomas part of the Black Diamond Gang?"
Louis: "Brooks said he was a peripheral member; they didn't know much about him."
Jimmy slammed the table, "Bullshit! How could someone involved in smuggling be just a peripheral member of a gang? It seems you're dissatisfied with the conditions we've offered and are lying about this issue."
Louis shook his head, "I'm not lying, that's all I know. Brooks was on the scene; many things weren't clear before the accident happened."
Jimmy: "You still claim you aren't lying? When you went to the warehouse, there were two cars with four people, but when you fled, seven people came out of the warehouse. There were also two dead bodies inside it. Who were those people? Who escaped along with you?"
