North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 582: Familiar Bald Man (Part 2)

Jimmy accelerated his pace to catch up. Once the distance was shortened, he immediately raised his right hand and fired three shots at the person shooting at him from ahead. Running and shooting simultaneously was quite difficult for accuracy, but fortunately, Jimmy wasn't aiming to kill, targeting the torso instead. Although there was a deviation from his intended spot, two bullets hit the torso.

The person running suddenly got shot. In a panic, he couldn't steady his movement and fell directly to the ground, rolling several times before stopping. The gun in his hand also fell to the ground.

Jimmy saw that the gun landed far away and didn't stop to apprehend him. Instead, he leapt over him to pursue the others in front.

With Jimmy's gunfire, those running ahead also started dodging, hiding behind other warehouses and by the cars parked outside the warehouse.

Jimmy saw their movements, urgently changed direction, and hid behind a corner of the wall, "FBI, everyone listen, put down your weapons and surrender."

Jimmy observed their positions; three people were further away, seemingly ready to slip away, crouching as they moved off. The three closer to Jimmy were holding guns, trying to locate him.

Jimmy wasn't sure which of the three was Ten-Seven or Louis; he needed both of them alive, so he couldn't kill them outright. He dared not shoot prematurely, only poking his head out as a gesture to get them to reveal their identities before deciding on his next move.

Jimmy glanced at the person who got shot; he was still at the spot he had stopped, just struggling to move to the side, with the handgun still on the ground.

Exposing his position with a Glock, Jimmy repeated the warning, which drew gunfire from two people,

all hitting the corner of the warehouse wall. This corner was one Jimmy had verified for its thickness, not the type easily penetrated by gunfire.

Focusing on their positions, Jimmy stretched his Glock out to aim and fired continuously. Only one person got hit, immediately taking cover behind a truck, while the other returned fire when Jimmy shot and then took cover, now checking on the status of the person who got shot.

Jimmy could barely catch their conversations, but couldn't understand what they were saying, not that it concerned him. He had five bullets left in the Glock, and with three people facing him capable of returning fire, it should be sufficient.

Jimmy emerged from the corner, aiming at the positions of the three as he moved forward. Seeing the silhouettes behind the vehicle and getting closer to exposing themselves, he preemptively shot at the shadowy torso.

"Ah!" The person about to spot Jimmy staggered backward. The last person, still intact, rushed out, firing wildly in Jimmy's direction, without aiming.

Jimmy didn't give him much of a chance; he fired out the remaining three bullets, pressed the magazine catch, letting the magazine drop freely, and loaded a spare magazine into the Glock.

"Drop your weapons!" All three people got hit. The three distant ones had already fled, leaving Jimmy with four wounded, making further pursuit impossible.

"I surrender, help me." One person, unable to bear it, threw his handgun to the ground.

"You all, throw your guns over here," Jimmy aimed at the three behind the truck, all of whom were already down but still capable of resistance.

After several demands from Jimmy, they finally gave up, tossing their guns out of reach.

With his right hand pointing the gun, Jimmy ordered them to lie face down with their hands behind their backs. After they complied, he retrieved cable ties from his belt and handcuffed one while using cable ties for the other two due to lack of cuffs.

After a quick search and kicking the guns out of reach, Jimmy took out his phone to call the police, notifying the NYPD to lock down the scene and request ambulances and firetrucks as the four wounded needed hospital transport.

Then he ran toward the first person he shot, who had given up escaping and was pressing a hand to his abdomen wound on the ground.

After restraining him with cable ties, Jimmy took out his phone again, calling Ruiz to roughly inform him of the location, asking for agent support, and then called Peter.

Despite Peter being the acting supervisor, such significant matters still required notification.

After listening to Jimmy's report and reasoning, Peter agreed to send personnel for investigation, allowing Jimmy to hang up and start providing emergency care for the wounded.

Among the four Jimmy intercepted, neither Ten-Seven nor Louis were present. It seemed these bosses, whatever else might be said about them, excelled at escaping. Arranging underlings to stall Jimmy and buy escape time was indeed an old tradition, making gang leaders difficult to catch. Without on-scene arrests, various cases would be blocked by firewalls they set up.

This place was a former industrial area in the Bronx, not far from the East River and Harlem River. The area housed many old industrial buildings and warehouses, with few residents, being a rare quiet, sparsely populated area in New York City.

The shootout caught the attention of some in the warehouse district, but no one came out to watch. Jimmy observed that others were inside the warehouses, mostly hiding. This habit was good, sparing Jimmy the trouble of onlookers.

The NYPD patrol cars arrived the fastest. After showing his credentials, the NYPD officers helped replace the cable ties with their handcuffs, making it slightly more comfortable for the captives. Cuffs were adjustable in tightness, unlike cable ties, which were intended to deter escape, so Jimmy had them tight, and cable ties didn't allow for looseness adjustment, making the experience poor.

When ambulances arrived, a nearby investigation team also reached the scene. Originally a gang monitoring team from Ruiz's side, Ruiz dispatched them to assist due to the incident Jimmy faced, knowing Jimmy was alone and that even with the NYPD present, FBI agents would be more efficient for command.

When the first batch of forensics personnel arrived, Jimmy directed them to enter through the warehouse's back door for examination, finding the two bodies previously lying prone now deceased.

The forensic team looked around the warehouse with grim faces. To Jimmy, people were the focus, but the forensic team needed to collect clues; the larger the area, the greater the workload for them.

No choice but to call back to summon more personnel for help; a two-person team couldn't manage this scene alone.

Jimmy looked at one person on the ground, furrowing his brow; this person looked familiar, resembling Marco from previous investigations.

Since the profile photo wasn't recent, Jimmy couldn't confirm if this was Marco and could only wait to speed up a DNA comparison back at the forensic office. Fortunately, Mrs. Melissa's DNA data was still available.

The scene process wasn't roughly resolved until evening. The four shot gang members were sent to the hospital. Apart from one unfortunate individual who succumbed to severe injuries, the other three survived and were now guarded by the NYPD at the hospital. Jimmy needed to arrange contacts to relieve them.

Jimmy didn't head home after work but returned to the office where Ruiz and Peter awaited his report on today's events, though they weren't together.

Jimmy first reported his situation to Peter, explaining that while investigating an arson murder case related to Marco, he then discovered that the three deceased weren't Marco, who was supposed to rent that room. Thus, he tracked Marco's superior, Louis, to the warehouse.

Upon hearing gunshots, fulfilling his FBI agent duty, Jimmy turned on sirens and lights to arrive at the scene, subsequently engaging in a gunfight, intercepting four gang members while three escaped.

Peter's side was relatively easy to handle, whereas Ruiz's was troublesome, especially concerning Ten-Seven, which needed clarity.
