Chapter 582: Familiar Bald Guy
Louis was driving in front, and Jimmy was following from a distance. It looked like he was heading towards Queens, but he stopped in front of an apartment building. A young guy with lots of tattoos came over and took the wheel, while Louis switched to the passenger seat, and the car turned northeast, heading for the Bronx.
It seems like there will be a breakthrough this time. Most of the Rotariano Family's territory is in Manhattan's Harlem District, which isn't very large, and the remaining part isn't in the Bronx but in Queens.
Now Louis's car is heading straight to the Bronx, and that's the biggest issue.
If they were going to Queens, they could just head southeast and take the Triborough Bridge, which connects Manhattan, the Bronx, and Queens, with no need to loop around the Bronx.
The car in front circled a block in the Bronx twice, and Jimmy immediately slowed down, further increasing the distance between them. They might have really suspected they were being followed, otherwise, they wouldn't have circled around a block.
Jimmy came out of the office, driving a company car, a Suburban. This type of vehicle is too familiar to people like Louis, so maybe they spotted Jimmy's car earlier.
Finally, Louis stopped the car in front. The two of them parked by the roadside, Louis got out and walked into a coffee shop at the intersection, while the other young man waited in the car. Jimmy passed the coffee shop entrance and saw Louis sit at a table in the corner inside the shop.
Looking around, there was no suitable place at this intersection for him to monitor while pretending to be inconspicuous, so he had to park the car on the other side of the intersection, with hazard lights on, waiting while smoking in the car.
After flashing his badge and dismissing two patrolling police cars, Jimmy finally waited for Louis to leave the coffee shop. During this time, a few people passed by his table, but no one sat opposite him. He took out his phone and made calls, but Jimmy never saw anyone inside the coffee shop chatting with him.
It had been a long time since he had done such a tail, and Jimmy was somewhat irritable, but he had no choice. He was alone, and the new guy hadn't been arranged yet. It's estimated it would really happen after Ruiz took office.
After leaving the coffee shop, Louis got back into the car and started it again, this time parking near the Bronx Zoo. Soon, another car parked behind Louis's car and flashed its headlights, and they left one after the other.
Jimmy followed them east, eventually stopping in a warehouse district. All four people from the two cars got out and, after looking around, one bald guy caught Jimmy's interest. This man was once an informant named Seventeen provided by Ruiz when fetching intel.
After making sure no one was paying attention to them, the four walked to a warehouse, opened the door, and went inside, leaving two to guard the entrance.
Jimmy was still somewhat far from them and was going to continue watching from the side when he recognized that familiar bald head. He decided to hold off for now.
Jimmy took out his phone and dialed Ruiz: "Ruiz, do you remember when I asked you to help investigate a case in the Bronx? You found someone who gave me some clues, right? The guy with the number name."
Ruiz: "What happened? Does it have something to do with him?"
Jimmy looked over at the warehouse, "Yeah, I'm following a case and found the people I'm tailing meeting him in a warehouse."
Ruiz: "Don't make contact with him. Come see me after you get back to the office."
Jimmy: "Alright... FK!"
Just as Jimmy was about to end the call, he suddenly heard a not-so-loud gunshot, and the two outside the warehouse turned around and were pulling up the rolling shutter door.
Jimmy: "I heard gunshots coming from their direction. I'm going to check it out."
Ending the call, Jimmy activated the hidden police lights and siren, started the car with flashing and noise, and headed towards the warehouse location.
While Jimmy was heading to the warehouse, the gunfire inside started again, and by the time the siren drew close to the door, the gunfire stopped.
Jimmy got out of the car, drew his Glock, and took cover behind the hood. Most of the situation inside the warehouse had become clear in his Heart Eye's observation.
There were seven people still standing or hiding in the warehouse. The shapes on the ground suggested at least two people were down.
Louis and Seventeen, among them, made four people, which meant there were originally five people in the warehouse. They must have stirred up something significant to start shooting in there.
The siren kept wailing, and the people inside had ceased firing. Now, they were focused on the doorway.
Jimmy moved away from the car and approached the warehouse door. The previously opened rolling shutter had fallen back down. Jimmy had no interest in opening the shutter door, as the action would expose his location, and getting shot by the people inside wasn't a joke.
Jimmy reached out and patted the shutter, simultaneously shouting: "FBI, listen up inside, put down your weapons, raise your hands, and surrender."
At the mention of FBI, the people inside immediately ran to the far end of the warehouse. Jimmy initially thought they were regrouping, but suddenly he realized they had opened a wall over there.
"FxxK!" Jimmy immediately turned around, intending to circle outside to the back of the warehouse, but he was much slower than the people inside.
Watching the group running ahead, Jimmy pursued them while holding his gun, shouting: "FBI, drop your weapons and surrender."
"Bang bang!" One of them turned sideways while running and fired two shots in Jimmy's direction before continuing to sprint away.
