Chapter 84: One Man Against an Entire Village!
Konan was furious.
She knew Nagato's condition all too well—every time he fought, it consumed his life force.
Yet this man had still passed the burden of dealing with Kaede onto them.
From her understanding of Nagato, she knew that with his confidence, he would definitely accept the challenge.
She glared at Obito and demanded, "Why don't you go yourself?"
Obito merely spread his hands, entirely unfazed.
"I remember telling you when we began working together—after my battle with the First Hokage, I suffered serious injuries."
"Even now, I can fight, but I can't go all out."
"You…" Konan clenched her teeth in anger.
She didn't believe a single word of his nonsense!
At that moment, Nagato's voice suddenly cut in.
"No need to talk to him."
He fixed his gaze on Obito and said in a deep voice, "I hear the shinobi world now calls Kaede Uchiha the new God of the Ninja World."
"Coincidentally, I've always wanted to see if this 'god' truly has such power."
"Six Paths Zero."
"If he doesn't, I'll bring back those four tailed beasts and the two from the Hidden Mist."
"Nagato…" Konan's expression shifted in shock.
Nagato shook his head, stopping her from saying more.
"It's fine—this won't require much of my strength."
Seeing this, Obito felt a deep satisfaction in his heart.
He loved this feeling of controlling everything from the shadows.
"Then I'll await your good news."
With that, his figure was swallowed by a swirling vortex of space.
Nagato narrowed his eyes. He had always been wary of Obito's ability—not only could he come and go without a trace, but he could also effortlessly evade any taijutsu or ninjutsu.
Without that ability, Nagato would never have worked with him.
He then turned to Konan. "Gather some information, and then we'll depart."
Konan could only nod gloomily.
"I understand."
Still, in her heart, she decided they had to ensure absolute certainty before making a move.
After all, Kaede Uchiha's battle record was simply too monstrous to ignore.
Leaving the chamber, Konan stepped out onto the tallest building in Amegakure and looked up at the dark, overcast sky.
"Yahiko… please watch over us and keep us safe…"
…
Kaede walked down the streets of the Hidden Mist with Mei Terumi in tow.
The villagers found it strange—since when did Mei Terumi allow a man to be this close to her?
But given her special status, the villagers quietly stepped aside.
After all, she was the only bloodline shinobi in the Hidden Mist who could make even the Mizukage hesitate to lay a hand on her.
It was then that Mei Terumi suddenly resisted.
She stared at Kaede in disbelief. "You're going straight to the Mizukage Tower?!"
Kaede chuckled lightly. "My time is valuable."
"This little matter is better settled right now."
The corner of Mei Terumi's mouth twitched—Kaede clearly wasn't putting the Hidden Mist in his eyes at all!
Marching straight to the Mizukage Tower would bring every shinobi in the village down on them.
Blood would flow through the streets—and not just shinobi, but civilians too would be caught in the crossfire.
Thinking of this, Mei Terumi no longer dared to hesitate.
"I'll agree to your terms, but you must give me some time to prepare!"
"Oh?" Kaede gave her a curious look.
"What do you still need to prepare?"
Mei Terumi took a deep breath. "I'll have my faction publicly declare rebellion."
"Yagura will definitely seize the chance to mobilize the entire army against us."
"That way, the battle will be fought outside the village, and once it starts in earnest, no civilians will be harmed."
She met Kaede's eyes seriously.
"You wouldn't want to rule over a battered, blood-soaked Hidden Mist, would you?"
Kaede smiled. "Now that makes perfect sense."
"Alright, we'll do it your way."
"But don't play any tricks, or…"
He narrowed his eyes. "I can guarantee there won't be a single living soul left in the Hidden Mist once I'm done."
A chill ran through Mei Terumi's heart. Kaede truly didn't care about the lives of ants.
She dared not scheme against him—this was the helplessness of a weak person with things to protect.
Kaede then followed Mei Terumi to her faction's base.
After a brief exchange, even though the leaders like Genshī were shocked by Kaede's overwhelming power, they could only bow their heads.
Still, Genshī secretly signaled to Mei Terumi.
"When Yagura arrives, could we use the full might of the village to drive this man out?"
Mei Terumi shook her head and replied,
"The Fourth Raikage of the Hidden Cloud brought tailed beasts and nearly five thousand shinobi—yet he still lost to him!"
Genshī was struck speechless and asked in despair,
"So the Hidden Mist will fall by our own hands?"
Mei Terumi's face was heavy with helplessness.
"Better to bow and survive than see the entire village slaughtered."
"And… we have no leverage to negotiate with him."
After that, they exchanged no more coded messages.
Kaede had noticed it all, but he felt no interest in their chatter.
He scanned the group—barely a hundred people.
If they dared to plot against him… heh.
Their destination was the battleground Mei Terumi had chosen—far from the village, beyond reach of the civilians.
Meanwhile, she sent a team into the village to challenge Yagura directly.
…
In the Hidden Mist, word of Mei Terumi's rebellion quickly spread.
When the time came—
"We're Mei Terumi's people, and we've discovered that the Fourth Mizukage Yagura is being controlled! His recent orders are part of the enemy's plot!"
"Hidden Mist shinobi, take down the Mizukage and you'll learn the truth!"
Voices laced with chakra echoed from every direction, spreading through the entire village.
Everyone heard it.
"Where's that voice coming from? Is there an enemy attack?"
"Mei Terumi's people… could it be true that the Mizukage is being controlled?!"
"No wonder his orders have been so strange these past years…"
"Damn it! Could it really be true?!"
The whole village erupted into discussion—both civilians and shinobi alike.
In the Mizukage Tower, Yagura also heard the commotion.
His face was unexpectedly calm, like a puppet under someone's control.
He gave the order mechanically, "Mei Terumi has rebelled. Mobilize and eliminate them immediately."
"Yes, sir!"
An instant later, several ANBU appeared and then vanished to spread the command.
These ANBU, trained personally by Yagura, were absolutely loyal.
Within half an hour, Yagura had gathered seventy percent of the Hidden Mist's forces.
Over three thousand shinobi marched in a massive wave toward Mei Terumi's location.
"They're here."
At the prepared battleground, Kaede opened his eyes.
Looking at the approaching force, he chuckled.
"So this is the Hidden Mist's current strength?"
"Such a small number—just enough for my warm-up."
Mei Terumi immediately spoke with urgency,
"They're not all loyal to Yagura. Give me time—I can persuade them to stand down!"
"Oh?" Sitting on a rock, Kaede crossed one leg over the other.
"Let's see what you can do."
