Chapter 83: Obito Still Wants to Make Trouble!
Kaede boarded the ship with Mei Terumi.
The God Tree's consumption of Mount Myōboku would still take some time, so he wasn't in a rush to do anything else.
First traveling by boat, then strolling through the Land of Water.
It was only after two full days that Kaede finally reached the Hidden Mist Village.
During that time, he had given Mei Terumi ample opportunity to think.
The tailed beasts in the Hidden Mist were already as good as gone—but what fate awaited them next depended entirely on Mei Terumi's choice.
At the same time, the moment Kaede approached the Hidden Mist…
"Well, well, a rather troublesome fellow has arrived!"
Not far from Kaede, a pale humanoid creature rose from the ground.
"I'd better hurry and report this to 'Madara'…"
As it turned to leave, Kaede sensed something and looked over, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
"White Zetsu, huh? Looks like I'll be meeting an old friend soon."
Mei Terumi frowned. "What did you just say?"
Kaede shook his head. "Nothing to do with you."
He gave her a deep look.
"You'd better make your decision soon—your Hidden Mist doesn't have much time left."
Mei Terumi pressed her lips together, falling silent, her heart in deep turmoil.
If she submitted to Kaede, she'd be betraying the generations of elders who had fought for the Hidden Mist.
If she refused…
With Kaede's personality and strength, he would never spare them!
One path led to a hollow survival, the other to immediate annihilation.
Over the past two days, she had already found her answer.
But she couldn't bring herself to say it aloud.
And so she hesitated.
Kaede could see her inner struggle, but he didn't press her.
After all, once she submitted, whatever her initial motives, the God Tree's radiance would eventually make her his loyal follower.
The reason he was patient enough to subdue these people at all was also because of the God Tree.
If the God Tree was to reach its mature state without destroying this world, aside from the Three Great Sacred Lands and the nine tailed beasts, it would also need to consume the heretical god sealed within Isshiki's puppet body.
Once fully matured, Kaede could wield his power without restraint!
And if he couldn't yet lead the Uchiha to conquer the universe by then, he could simply halt the God Tree's growth temporarily.
This plan involved many people.
For example, Ranmaru, whom Kaede had recruited as a researcher.
And the nine tailed beasts, whose purpose was to serve as the core of a grand formation.
The formation's function was simple: to accelerate the planet's absorption of cosmic energy, ensuring the God Tree's normal growth while also benefiting the training of the world's shinobi.
As for the ninja who submitted to him, they would one day become his source of offerings.
From knowing the full story, Kaede understood that chakra had countless uses—it could even be used as an energy source.
Thus, the offerings from his loyal ninja would be his chosen fuel, for now.
But all of that was for the future—what he was doing now was laying the groundwork.
"Come on, let's go see what the Hidden Mist looks like these days."
With Mei Terumi in tow, Kaede stepped into the Hidden Mist's territory.
…
In the Land of Rain, Obito—lost in thought—suddenly frowned.
"What are you doing here?"
As he spoke, White Zetsu emerged from the ground.
The flytrap-like growth opened, revealing a face split evenly between black and white.
White Zetsu grinned. "We've just received some big news!"
Black Zetsu spoke in a low voice. "That man, Kaede Uchiha, has gone to the Hidden Mist!"
At that name, Obito's expression instantly darkened.
Since unlocking the Mangekyō, apart from the time he was schooled by Minato in his early inexperience, he had never been dealt such a blow.
Not only had Kaede destroyed one of his Sharingan eyes, but he had also beaten him into such a sorry state that he'd been forced to flee, unable to face him directly.
"Kaede Uchiha… what's he doing in the Hidden Mist?"
Black Zetsu's lips curled in an odd smile. "Perhaps he's after the Three-Tails."
"After all, lately he's been capturing the Seven-Tails, Nine-Tails, Two-Tails, and Eight-Tails one after another."
Obito's face stiffened at those words.
He remembered vividly the moment Kaede had exposed his true identity.
"Could that guy know about our plan?!"
White Zetsu suddenly teased, "Madara, you're scared, aren't you? You must be afraid of Kaede Uchiha!"
"What should we do? Just hand over the Three-Tails?"
The corner of Obito's mouth twitched beneath his mask, his face darkening like soot.
"Shut up!" Black Zetsu barked sharply at White Zetsu.
Then, in a low voice to Obito, "Think of something. You may not be his match, but you can't just let him gather all the tailed beasts."
At that, Obito closed his eyes.
Black Zetsu recognized the look—he was thinking.
After a long pause, Obito's eyes snapped open.
"Looks like I'll have to make him take action."
Black Zetsu narrowed its eyes. "You mean… Nagato?"
Obito smirked. "By now, Kaede probably thinks he's invincible."
"But he doesn't know—the Mangekyō is not the same as the Rinnegan's Limbo."
"This will be the perfect chance to test how far our tool has grown."
Black Zetsu fell silent.
It knew Obito had his own scheme.
And most likely, this was about Nagato's Rinnegan.
After all, Obito had no intention of being a pawn forever—especially with Madara still alive.
Without another word, Obito's body was swallowed by a swirling vortex of space.
Black Zetsu chuckled softly before sinking back into the earth.
It had no intention of stopping Obito.
As the most hidden and dangerous manipulator in the ninja world, it had been watching Kaede from afar.
It knew that Kaede's Mangekyō abilities had reached a terrifying level.
After all, he had already manifested the Complete Body Susanoo.
For the plan to proceed smoothly, perhaps it was time for Kaede to die.
…
In a dark, hidden chamber within Amegakure, Obito's figure appeared.
"What are you here for?"
Seeing him, Konan's brows knit in deep displeasure.
She didn't like this shadowy man—he reeked of manipulation toward the Nagato at her side.
But for the sake of their plan, and with his confidence in his Rinnegan, Nagato tolerated Obito's presence, leaving Konan no choice but to accept it as well.
Standing before them, Obito's lips curved slightly.
"I came to bring you some news."
"That Kaede Uchiha is also collecting tailed beasts—and he's already captured four."
Nagato narrowed his eyes. "I know. He's only keeping them for me."
Obito was used to Nagato's arrogance, so he continued calmly.
"But if we let him continue, once he gathers them all, it will be hard to pin him down."
"I've just received word—he's gone to the Hidden Mist alone, clearly after their Three-Tails and Six-Tails…"
But before he could finish, Konan interrupted sharply:
"You want Nagato to take action?"
