Chapter 56: A Sudden Change of Tone—Sasuke's “Chase the Husband” Story?
The explosion of the Tailed Beast Bomb instantly swallowed the entire shelter area.
A massive mushroom cloud of black smoke rose into the sky—visible even from dozens of miles away.
Only a few, those on the very outskirts of the blast, had time to escape, pulled away by nearby shinobi who reacted quickly. They suffered only the shockwave.
But the rest—over ten thousand people—were annihilated beneath the blast.
If you included the deaths caused by Kaede earlier, the population of Konoha had now been reduced by half.
"Tch, this brat's power still isn't enough," the Nine-Tails licked its lips, clearly wishing it could launch another Tailed Beast Bomb.
It turned to Kaede with a sharp grin.
"I think I kinda like you now," it chuckled, before quickly returning the body to Naruto.
After all, Naruto was still a kid—even if he could control the Nine-Tails.
Kaede smirked. "The proud Nine-Tails, actually worried about Naruto's well-being?"
The Nine-Tails said nothing, cutting off its connection in embarrassment.
Since it had gone quiet, Kaede stepped forward and patted Naruto on the shoulder.
"Not bad."
Naruto's body was trembling—but not out of fear.
Even though the power hadn't been his, the body used was. And in this moment, Naruto had stepped fully onto the path of darkness.
Kaede continued, "Naruto… from now on, walk with me. Let's change this rotten world."
Naruto nodded firmly.
When he saw the destruction in the distance, an uncontrollable sense of satisfaction rose within him.
You all kept calling me a demon fox, didn't you?
Then let me show you what the real demon fox looks like.
"Where does it hurt?"
Suddenly, a cold voice rang out.
Kaede raised an eyebrow. "Interesting…"
He had already sensed a familiar presence approaching.
Naruto turned to look and his eyes flickered.
"Sasuke?"
It was indeed Sasuke who had arrived.
He had heard the rumors from the riverside—how Kaede had led the Uchiha in rebellion—and he couldn't stop himself from coming.
"Kaede led the clan into rebellion… your father and brother fought to stop it. In the end, your father died, and your brother went missing..."
Perhaps due to fear of the missing brother, Hiruzen Sarutobi had eventually allowed Danzo to release Sasuke.
Since learning this truth, Sasuke had come to despise Danzo's rot and corruption.
But now, his target of hatred had shifted—not to Itachi, but to Kaede.
And yet… recently, every time he saw Naruto, he felt a strange sense of kinship.
Both of them—sons of heroes—yet constantly judged and ostracized by others.
Before he realized it, Sasuke had begun to drift toward Naruto.
But Naruto had changed. Ever since learning the truth, he had begun to reject everyone—and naturally ignored Sasuke's hidden concern.
Even the resonance of Ashura's and Indra's chakra within them couldn't shake Naruto's resolve.
So Naruto only glanced briefly at Sasuke, then turned to Kaede.
"Sensei… can we leave this place now?"
Sasuke stared, shocked. Naruto's gaze… it was on Kaede.
"You… Kaede!"
In a flash, a wave of hatred surged into Sasuke's mind.
"Traitor! Die!"
He roared, charging Kaede with his fist.
If it weren't for Kaede's ambition, maybe his family would still be whole.
He wanted revenge for his father and brother!
"Bang!"
But before Kaede could even move, Naruto had caught Sasuke's fist with ease.
Naruto's gaze was ice-cold. "Are you trying to die?"
He had acted instinctively—not because Sasuke posed any threat, but perhaps because… he didn't want to see Sasuke killed by Kaede.
Sasuke didn't appreciate it one bit. He shouted:
"Let me go! I need to avenge my father and brother!"
Naruto sneered. "Avenge? You can't even throw a punch."
Then he grabbed Sasuke and slammed him into the ground with a shoulder throw.
"Ah…!" Sasuke cried out in pain, stars spinning in his eyes as he curled up on the ground.
With the Nine-Tails' influence, Naruto's body had been growing stronger by the day.
Among the young Academy students, he was now frighteningly powerful.
Sasuke, as he was now, stood no chance.
This reversal of the original plot was far too entertaining for Kaede.
"Such an interesting scene."
The smile never left Kaede's face.
"Looks like my appearance really did alter both Naruto and Sasuke's destinies."
Originally, Kaede had planned to bring Sasuke to see Mikoto.
But now, he changed his mind.
Watching the former protagonists turn their bond into a twisted, love-hate rivalry… it might just bring some fun to his otherwise boring life.
Besides, with Mikoto as his trump card, no matter how Sasuke changed, he'd eventually fall into Kaede's hands.
At that moment, the backup shinobi who had been hiding finally arrived.
They looked from Naruto to Kaede—and one of them immediately turned his fury on Naruto.
"Naruto! What was that just now? The Nine-Tails?!"
Naruto turned to him and smiled—almost like a madman.
"The Nine-Tails? Of course, it's my power."
"You wanted to see the demon fox, didn't you? Well, I gave you a real show."
The shinobi were livid.
"Damn it! You killed so many villagers!"
"Just like we thought! You really are the demon fox's reincarnation!"
"Son of a hero? You're worse than a beast!"
"We should've strangled you in the cradle, you monster!"
"After all your father gave for the village, this is how you repay him?!"
Each insult stoked the fire in Naruto's heart.
"My father?" He gave a hollow laugh.
Then shouted, "If I ever meet him, I'll ask him myself—
'This village that caused me so much suffering… was it really worth protecting, you bastard?'"
Deep inside the seal, the Nine-Tails suddenly opened its eyes.
It stared at the sealing talisman on the gate—and the corner of its mouth curled up.
Just now, it had heard a rumble from within the seal's depths.
"Fourth Hokage…"
Outside, Naruto's outburst silenced all the shinobi.
Those with a conscience felt deeply conflicted.
Naruto had become this way because of them.
But those without a conscience, after their initial shock, resumed their shouting.
Naruto stared at these clowns, his gaze growing colder by the second.
Then Kaede stepped forward and rested a hand on Naruto's shoulder.
"Want your sensei to kill them for you?"
Instantly, the shinobi fell silent.
The fear of death snapped them out of it.
Naruto opened his mouth, then looked at the crowd of cowards—his eyes filled with hatred.
"No need. Once I'm strong enough, I'll come back and do it myself."
Kaede smiled approvingly. "A fine resolve."
He turned to the shinobi and narrowed his eyes.
"Don't be scared. You'll still have your chance."
"And this… this is only the beginning. The real surprises come later."
With that, he vanished from sight, taking Naruto and the three kunoichi from the Hidden Waterfall with him.
Only once they had left did Sasuke, still aching on the ground, struggle to stand.
He stared at the spot where Kaede and the others had disappeared, his eyes nearly bulging out.
"Naruto… we're the same. I won't let you be deceived by that guy!"
His eyes turned blood red—and two tomoe formed instantly.
