Chapter 295: Surprise
Coco pushed the door open, the sound of the hinges creaking softly, the crisp morning air gently ruffling her hair as she stepped outside.
Coco approached the gate, her eyes widening in surprise when she caught sight of Sinclair's familiar form.
She stood motionless for a moment, her mouth slightly open in surprise, taking in the sight of him standing outside the gate, her gaze roaming over his tall figure, eyeing the details of his attire and his overall demeanor, before finally meeting his gaze.
Coco quickly opened the gate, the gate's hinges creaked softly as it moved, its rusty hinges protesting at the sudden movement.
As the gate swung wide, Coco's face slowly lit up with a bright smile, excitement clear in her features, arms wrapping tightly around his neck and her body colliding with his.
The suddenness of her action caught Sinclair off guard, the force of her embrace knocking him backward slightly.
He stumbled a step, but quickly steadied himself, his hands instinctively coming up to brace her back, their bodies pressed together, the warmth of her body seeping into his and the subtle scent of her surrounding him.
Sinclair blinked at the sight of her, his eyes softening as he took in her bright expression, the corners of his lips curled up into a small smile, his gaze warm and welcoming.
He greeted her with a short nod, his voice gentle as he spoke, "Good morning, master."
Sinclair chuckled softly, the sound rumbling in his chest as he returned Coco's embrace. "It seems that you had a good night's sleep based on your appearance alone."
Sinclair's arms encircled her, his grip firm, but gentle.
"Good morning, Sin!" Coco laughed, her body feeling warm against his, the smell of her filling his senses.
He felt a sense of comfort and familiarity in her embrace, his worry from before fading because he felt like he was still under the embrace of his mother's wings, the warmth Coco gave him making him want to let out a satisfied croak.
"What are you doing here? And.. Who are they?" Coco asked and pulled away from Sinclair, her gaze flicking to the side.
Her eyes caught sight of something, or rather someone, on the edge of her vision, and as she turned her gaze to get a better look, she saw a number of figures dressed in a familiar uniform.
Some wore maid uniforms, while others were dressed in butler uniforms, and they were standing discreetly to the side as if they were waiting for something.
Sinclair gestured towards the group of staff standing off to the side, his voice carrying the introduction.
"These are my staff." He said, motioning towards the men and women standing in their uniforms. "They help maintain the manor and its grounds."
Coco nodded, her expression thoughtful as she took in the information, but despite her understanding, there was still a hint of confusion visible on her face, not understanding why he would bring his staff at Zaque's house.
Seeing the puzzled look on Coco's face, Sinclair sighed, but there was still a smile on his face as he spoke, "I'll be lending them to you for cleaning the house today."
His words were firm and confident, his gaze fixed on Coco, but the implication was clear— the staff would be at her disposal for the day, ready to assist in any way necessary.
The tone of his voice was signaling to her that the matter was settled and it was obvious that he wanted the task to be done as quickly as possible, and he was more than willing to lend his own staff to accomplish it.
"Really?" Coco brightened up at the news, her surprise evident in her expression, brightening with excitement.
"You didn't have to do that though." Coco added to her question, her tone genuine and filled with gratitude. "We can manage the house just fine."
She was touched by his gesture, touched that he was willing to lend his staff to help with the task, the thoughtfulness of his gesture touched her so she couldn't help, but felt grateful towards him.
"Please don't pay any mind to it." Sinclair hums and places a hand on her head, his fingers threading across her black locks, straightening them to the best of his ability. "I wanted to help you settle. I did it to my own accord."
However, as much as Coco felt grateful for him, her expression shifted, her initial excitement transforming into a frown as a realization dawned on her.
"What's wrong?" Sinclair asked, immediately noticing that something was wrong.
Coco paused for a moment, her thoughts racing, her brow furrowed in thought because the house behind her doesn't belong to her.
Coco felt a wave of conflict wash over her, the thought of letting the staff into the house making her uncomfortable, not because she didn't want them, but because the house wasn't hers to invite anyone into.
It was Zaque's home so she doesn't have the right to allow anyone to enter without his permission.
Coco bit the inside of her cheek, the guilt gnawed at her, her conscience protesting against the idea of overstepping her bounds.
I just have to ask Zaque, right? Coco thought, her gaze flickering between Sinclair and the staff, then she cleared her throat, her gaze fixed on Sinclair as she made up her mind.
"Just give me a few minutes," Coco said, her tone firm and final, "I need to let Zaque know about this first."
She paused, giving him a serious look, but she still flashed him a small smile. "You already know why, right? I trust you so stay here with your people."
"Please go ahead." Sinclair chuckled, pulling his hand away from her hair and placing it on his chest, "You don't need to let me know what you're going to do. Worry not, I'll be waiting here."
Coco sent him another smile before she closed the gate. "I promise I'll be quick."
With that, she ran back inside.
