New World with Four Husbands

Chapter 296: Asking permission

Zaque stirred awake, his sleep disturbed by the sound of loud, muffled yelling coming from somewhere in the hallway, the sound of loud yelling from somewhere filtering into the room and jolting him from his slumber

His eyes snapped open, his body tensing as he sat up abruptly, his ears straining to make out the words.

The yelling continued, the familiar voice getting louder and more frenzied, the noise an unwelcome intrusion on his sleep.

He sat up quickly, his gaze darting around the room, searching for the source of the commotion.

However, not even a second had passed when Zaque realized that the noise was not coming from inside the room, but instead coming from the hallway outside.

His brow furried as he listened carefully, his ears straining to make out the sound of the voices in the distance.

"Zaque! Zaque! Zaqueeeeee?!"

The red haired mediator was quick to recognize Coco's voice, the sound of her familiar tone cutting through the room.

Zaque rose from the bed, his feet landing silently on the floor, his movements slow and sluggish.

He moved towards the door, navigating the room with a slight stumble, his attention focused on the voices he could hear through the mahogany door.

His ears pricked up as he moved closer, his attention fixed on the words being exchanged outside.

"Stop yelling, Coco! It's too early!"

"Sorry, but I can't do that— Zaque! Where are you sleeping, Zaque?!"

"Coco!"

Zaque heard the urgency in Coco's voice, and the sound of annoyance on Heiren's as well, their words carrying from the hallway.

He took a cautious step forward, his hand grasping the door handle and opening it slowly, and as the door creaked open, he caught sight of Coco and Heiren standing in the hallway, their faces filled with tension and surprise when they turned to face him.

Coco brightened up as her gaze landed on Zaque, her expression one of relief to see him.

"Zaque!" Coco called out, Her face lit up with a smile as she took in his rumpled appearance, the sight of his messy hair and sleepy eyes making her feel slightly guilty.

Zaque, on the other hand, looked slightly hungover, his expression a mixture of confusion and fatigue, the sudden awakening had clearly disoriented him, and his appearance showed it.

Coco turned away from Heiren, her focus shifting to Zaque. Her steps were quick and light, her movements quiet as she navigated the short distance between them.

"Listen— first of all, I'm so sorry for waking up so early, but Sinclair is outside with his staff, and he wants to help us clean the house." Coco said, her hands waving wildly in the air.

Zaque raised an eyebrow, his face contorting into a frown as Coco recounted the events that had unfolded outside.

He listened intently at first, his focus fixed on her words, but his expression grew increasingly perplexed as she went on and now, Zaque's brow furrowed in confusion, his gaze flickering to Heiren because he doesn't have a clue on what to say.

Heiren merely looked away, silently telling him that he's on his own.

"Can we please accept Sinclair's help? I'm sure they won't take long!" Coco asked, pleading with her pressing her palms together.

Zaque let out a huff, his initial instinct to refuse the offer. Yet, as his gaze shifted to Coco's hopeful expression, his resistance wavered.

He saw the excitement in her eyes, the subtle pleading in her expression making him soften his stance, and he knew right then and there that he couldn't bring himself to deny her with his resistance crumbling in the face of her hopeful eyes.

Zaque's shoulders slumped, a slight sigh escaping his lips, accepting defeat as he muttered, "Fine."

The word was spoken in a stumped tone, but there was a hint of a fond smile on his face as if he was accepting that he would never be able to refuse her.

Coco couldn't help, but let out a laugh by his acceptance, her joy bubbling over in a burst of sheer enthusiasm.

Overwhelmed with happiness, she quickly threw her arms around Zaque, enveloping him in a tight and warm hug, pressing her body against his, her embrace full of affection and excitement.

Zaque stumbled back slightly, caught off guard by the unexpected hug, making his body teetered for a moment, his balance thrown off, but he quickly composed himself, his arms wrapping around Coco reflexively.

"Thank you! Thank you!" The laughter that escaped her lips was infectious, her happiness contagious.

Zaque buried his face in Coco's hair, his nose nuzzling against her locks and inhaling deeply, the faint scent of her soap subtle yet comforting.

His arms tightened around her for a moment, his embrace becoming more intimate as he drew her closer, but he quickly pulled away from Coco's hair, his grip loosening, with his arms still wrapped around her.

"Now, go and let them in, then have them start cleaning the house." Zaque's tone was firm, but his expression was soft.

Zaque knew that the house needed to be tidied, and since Coco had already wanted to allow Sinclair's staff to help, who is he to go against her wishes?

"Don't worry, I'll tell them to focus downstairs first so you and the others can prepare." Coco said as she pulled away from Zaque's arms.

Zaque didn't have the chance to respond because she quickly dashed down the hallway with a bright smile on her face, her steps were light and fast, her laughter cheerful as she vanished into the corridor.

Zaque sighed weakly, his gaze momentarily fixed on Coco's retreating form before shifting to Heiren, who had been standing quietly by the side during his entire conversation with Coco.

"Let the others know that we have guests." He said, the words spoken with a low grumble, "Coco still has our clothes so once she gets back, I'll have her drop off the bags to your rooms."

"Right.." Heiren mumbled and walked down the hall.
