New World with Four Husbands

Chapter 289: Quiet moments

"I hate this feeling.." Coco mumbled, her eyebrows creased deeply in annoyance.

The nauseous feeling had gone down, but it was still there, and it's killing her because she could feel her throat constricting and relaxing just so she could throw up— which she wouldn't do, by the way.

It's just that, the sensation felt horrible.

"You'll be fine." Zaque assured Coco, rubbing his hand up and down on her arm.

"He's right." Heiren agreed, the sleeve of his shirt still getting dabbed across Coco's face, wiping off the cold sweat that formed all over her face, "You will be fine. This will pass so take a deep breath, slowly."

Coco did as she was told, inhaling as slowly, but as deeply as she could and exhaled, letting her shoulders relax under Zaque's hand.

They had passed through the second transportation port and just like the first one, the second one made her nauseous as well, however, on the second round, she managed to brace herself so she wasn't feeling as bad as earlier.

"Sinclair said that we will be arriving at the gate in an hour." Heiren informed Coco, "So, until then, try to get some sleep."

"But laying down would only make it worse." Coco grumbled, already feeling like she was about to throw up, her throat clogging up and bile starting to rise, "Just thinking about it makes me feel even more sick."

"Okay, okay.. Just lay your head on Zaque's shoulder instead." Heiren suggested, the alternative not sounding bad in his mind, "Is that better than laying down?"

"I'll try." Coco mumbled, letting her head fall on Zaque's shoulder, the movement slow and weary.

Her eyelids drifted shut, her exhaustion written clearly on her face, and it was noticeable how the tension in her body ease as she let herself rest against him, the muscles in her shoulders relaxing as she leaned into his warmth.

Zaque reflexively wrapped an arm around her, pulling her closer against him.

Taking Coco's situation into consideration, Heiren gently moved the white creature off from the other side of Coco and situated himself on Konoha's spot.

Hiss.

Konoha let out an annoyed sound and glared at Heiren, but she didn't swat at him or anything and instead, jumped on the space between Quizen and Alhai.

"Let this one slide for now." Heiren said to the fluffy feline, shooting her an apologetic glance.

Konoha turned her head away, chin high up and eyes shifting away from his face, not giving him any kind of response and focused on her sick master who looked like she was about to pass out on Zaque's shoulder.

Heiren cracked a smile at the creature, his gaze drifting over to Coco's tired form, his expression was one of concern, his features tight with worry.

The ride had clearly taken a toll on her, her body sagging against Zaque, her eyes closed and her face pale, and Heiren unconsciously reached out, his hand resting gently on her arm, to reassure himself that she was alright.

Actually, now that Heiren had focused back on Coco, he noticed that Coco's eyelids slowly grew heavy, her body succumbing to the exhaustion that coursed through her.

Coco's breathing slowed, her chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm as she drifted into slumber.

Both Zaque and Heiren shared a glance as her body started to lean heavily against Zaque, her limbs loose and relaxed— the tension that had been present in her muscles melted away as she fell into a deep sleep, her expression peaceful and untroubled.

Coco quickly fell asleep, oblivious to the changes in expression of those around her.

Zaque looked down at her with a weary smile, his gaze tender and fond, filled with concern as he ran a gentle hand through her hair, his touch tender and protective.

Heiren's expression was pensive as he regarded her sleeping form, his gaze soft and worried.

On the other hand, Alhai looked almost disappointed at her falling asleep, his expression almost annoyed, but if someone looked deeper into that annoyance of his, they would be able to see that there was a hint of relief in his gaze.

"Would she be okay?" Quizen asked, his voice quiet and barely above whisper, his gaze flickering quickly between the sleeping woman on Zaque's shoulder and the other mediators.

"She will." Heiren said, firm and final.

"It's her first time to use the transportation port." Zaque said in a matter-of-fact tone, "Everyone has different reactions when they first go through it, right? When I went to the village using the carriage the Baroness let me use, I was throwing up after."

"Seriously?" Quizen raised an eyebrow.

"Seriously." Zaque stated bluntly, shifting in his seat so Coco would be able to lean on him more comfortably.

"Whatever.. Can't we ask someone for a lamp?" Alhai spoke up and let out a huff, putting his book inside of the basket, "We don't have any light. I can't read my book in the dark."

"Don't read then." Heiren retorted back, "Coco needs to rest."

The sky had grown dark, the sun long since hidden behind the horizon, and the only light came from the stars, their glimmer casting a glow on their surroundings.

The journey had been long and their destination was still distant, but it felt longer than it should have.

However, even if Alhai was whining about lights, he ended up silencing himself and darting his gaze out of the carriage's window, watching the night sky as the carriage continued to move forward.

Zaque had his gaze fixed outside the window, his expression soft and his attention divided between watching the scenery passing by and the sleeping woman in his arms.

He subconsciously pulled her even closer, his arm wrapping tighter and more protectively around her as his fingers traced gentle, reassuring, patterns on her skin, the gesture instinctive and soft, her body limp and relaxed in his embrace.

Quiet moments like this is something Zaque would die for.
