Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Midnight Intrigue
[The Battle of Kannabi Bridge is considered the turning point of the Third Shinobi War.
Kakashi is a direct disciple of the Hokage and sheltered by White Fang's influence.
The Third Hokage must've granted him Flying Thunder God Technique to win public favor—
After all, Minato started as a civilian and never participated in the war.
Most likely, it was Jiraiya's influence that gave him access to the technique.
When it comes down to it, everything revolves around inheritance.~~]
As someone who should have "died," Obito found himself in an unusually good mood, freely roaming the village streets.
"Can't afford to get hurt~ Can't afford to get hurt~ Carrying and three disciples~
Where's your conscience~ A stray dog took it away~ Wandering for ten thousand~"
Humming a cheerful tune, he returned home.
"I'm back, Grandma!"
His grandmother walked out, her face lighting up as she caught sight of him. She grabbed his arm, inspecting him closely.
"Grandma thought you'd lose weight training outside, but why does your face look even rounder?"
Obito chuckled, scratching his head awkwardly.
"Hehe, maybe it's because I've been eating too much protein lately."
The two hadn't seen each other in a while and settled into the courtyard for a long chat. Eventually, Obito glanced at the time and stood up.
"Grandma, I won't be home for dinner tonight. Sensei invited us all for a meal, and Rin will be there too."
His grandmother nodded but then added with a sly smile,
"Speaking of Rin, when are you bringing Grandma to meet her parents? You two aren't getting any younger—you should start thinking about…"
Obito's face turned red.
"Grandma! I'm only fourteen! I'm still a kid!"
His grandmother chuckled.
"Alright, alright. You're still a kid. Do you need to bring some fruit wine to your teacher's house? I just brewed a fresh batch."
Obito waved his hands in a panic.
"No need, Grandma. Save it for Uncle Kawa!"
After patting Obito on the back, she said, "Then off you go. Don't keep everyone waiting."
"Got it! See you later, Grandma!"
Obito cheerfully left the house.
On the way, after helping three elderly ladies cross the street, he finally arrived at Minato-sensei's house.
As soon as the door opened, Kakashi greeted him with a complaint.
"Obito, you're late again. Everyone's been waiting for you."
Scratching his head with a sheepish grin, Obito said,
"Sorry, sorry, I ran into—"
"Obito!"
Before he could finish, a girl dashed forward and threw herself into his arms.
"Hehe, Rin~~"
Obito lifted her off the ground, spinning her around in a circle.
In the process, Rin's leg accidentally kicked Kakashi.
Kakashi: "???"
Why do I feel like I'm glowing with bad luck right now?
The three eventually sat at the dinner table, but Kakashi's ordeal was just beginning.
Obito and Rin, reunited after some time apart, were practically glued together.
Even Minato and Kushina, inspired by the younger couple's energy, started sharing sweet moments of their own.
What started as a meal for five had effectively turned into a dinner for two pairs—plus a solitary bystander.
I will create a world without couples! Kakashi thought bitterly.
Just then, the door creaked open, and a small figure entered.
"Mom, Dad, I'm home… huh? Obito-nii, Kakashi-nii, Rin-nee, you're all here!"
A delighted smile spread across the little boy's round face.
With his blonde hair, blue eyes, and chubby cheeks, he looked absolutely adorable.
You used to be so cute. When did you start squinting all the time at school?
Was it to seal away your charm and avoid early romance?
Obito grinned. "Naruto's back!"
The boy clapped his hands in excitement. "Yeah! Obito-nii, will you come play with me?"
Obito thought for a moment, forming a hand seal. A shadow clone appeared beside him.
"I have to finish dinner, but my clone can go with you. How's that sound?"
Kakashi suddenly coughed and stood up.
"Uh… I'm done eating. I'll go too."
Kushina frowned. "Kakashi, you barely ate! Stay a while longer."
Rin chimed in, "Yeah, Kakashi, you'll be hungry later."
Shaking his head quickly, Kakashi said, "No, no, I'm really full! So full I might burst!"
Without another word, he grabbed Naruto's hand with Obito's clone on the other side and practically fled.
Obito watched in confusion.
"What's with Kakashi today? He's acting weird."
"No idea," Rin replied, tilting her head. She picked up a slice of meat and offered it to Obito.
"Say 'ah~,' Obito!"
"Ah~"
After dinner, Kakashi hurried off, and Obito walked Rin home before wandering the streets alone again.
"Honey? Ah-ha! Where are we going?"
Humming, hands behind his head, he suddenly remembered something.
"Oh… right. I forgot to check in with Yuki after coming back from the battlefield!"
A cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
It's been over a month. She's definitely mad.
"Well, her place is on the way. Should I stop by? Hope she hasn't closed up for the night."
Resolving to visit, Obito headed toward Yuki's pharmacy.
When he arrived, the shop was pitch black. Clearly, it was closed.
"Ah, really closed? Wait…"
Narrowing his eyes, Obito scanned the area.
"Sister Yuki never stays overnight at the store, but the door isn't latched from the outside. It must've been locked from within. And this chakra fluctuation…"
In the darkness, his Sharingan gleamed, spinning with intensity.
"Sharingan!"
His heightened vision revealed a hastily constructed barrier around the pharmacy. Though crudely made, his Sharingan detected lingering chakra at its edges.
"What's going on? Could Sister Yuki be in danger?" Obito muttered.
Lifting his arm, a branch-like structure wriggled out from his sleeve. When he brought it to his face, an orange, swirling mask appeared in his hand.
Sliding the mask over his face, Obito's figure flickered and vanished. He passed through the barrier without disturbing a single ripple of chakra.
