Chapter 441: Chapter 441: I Dare to Choose, Do You Dare to Use It?
For Tsunade, there wasn't much to say if others couldn't offer solutions, but when it came to Shinki, she wasn't about to let him off the hook. After all, he was the one who maneuvered her into becoming Hokage. Naturally, when trouble arose, he became her go-to problem solver.
"If you're not yawning, then what exactly are you doing?" Tsunade asked, her eyes narrowing in mock threat.
Shinki ignored her glare, casually wiping the corners of his eyes. "Price increases are inevitable. What's important is ensuring that essentials like food and some meat don't skyrocket to outrageous levels. If we can manage that, any grievances from the villagers can be redirected."
"Redirected? How exactly?" Nara Shikashin leaned forward with interest, intrigued by Shinki's idea.
Shinki smirked. "It's simple. Dispatch people to survey prices in other nations, collect data, and publish comparative price lists in the village. Once the villagers see that Konoha's prices are lower than most other places, their complaints will shift."
"Human nature is complex. When people realize others are worse off than they are, they gain perspective. Resentment diminishes when they see their own situation isn't as bad in comparison."
"Will this actually work?" Tsunade asked, skeptical but intrigued.
"Why wouldn't it?" Shinki shrugged. "The villagers feel the strain of rising costs and naturally direct their frustration inward. But when they understand that Konoha's prices are relatively low across the ninja world, they'll find a sense of rational comfort. Life may be stressful, but it's still better than starving or living in constant danger like people in war-torn regions."
Nara Shikashin, after a moment of thought, nodded. "Hokage-sama, I think Shinki's proposal is worth trying. It's a low-risk approach. Investigating prices isn't difficult, and even if it doesn't work, it won't harm the village."
Tsunade sighed, recognizing the logic. "Alright. Shikashin, I'm leaving this to you. Don't wait until the villagers' resentment boils over before acting."
"Yes, Hokage-sama. I'll arrange for a team to handle it immediately," Shikashin replied decisively.
Once Shikashin left, Shinki walked over to the window, gazing out at the village before turning back to Tsunade. He moved behind her and began massaging her stiff shoulders.
Tsunade groaned, rubbing her temples. "I don't understand why the previous Hokage were so eager for this chair. The endless work, irregular meals, and lack of rest—it's exhausting."
"Some people dream of becoming Hokage despite the hardships," Shinki replied. "For them, the responsibilities are worth it."
Tsunade rolled her eyes. "Well, they can have it. What do you think about letting Nawaki and Minato serve as assistants for a while?"
Tsunade had no faith in Orochimaru, and Jiraiya had shown little interest in village matters. That left the next generation. Both Nawaki and Namikaze Minato were ideal candidates—they were capable and had dreamed of becoming Hokage since childhood. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to train them while easing some of her workload.
"I think it's a good idea," Shinki agreed, but added, "However, I suggest they take turns rather than working together. Having both at the same time might not be efficient."
Shinki elaborated on his suggestion: "Assign a permanent assistant to support you in handling the day-to-day responsibilities, while Nawaki and Minato take turns as temporary assistants—one month at a time. This way, they can gain experience without overwhelming the office."
Tsunade frowned, her head starting to ache again. "Fine, but choosing a permanent assistant is such a hassle. Can't you pick someone for me?"
Shinki chuckled dryly. "If I dare to choose, do you dare to use my pick?"
Before Tsunade could retort, Shinki gave her a playful smack on the head. "If you're really too lazy to decide, I suggest Uchiha Mikoto. She's highly capable and trustworthy, despite being from the Uchiha clan."
Tsunade raised an eyebrow. "Mikoto?"
"Yes," Shinki continued. "She's efficient, reliable, and familiar with you, which reduces the risk of any misunderstandings or information leaks. The only downside is her Uchiha background. Another option is Pakura, but that's a whole different story"
After considering his suggestion, Tsunade sighed. "She does seem like a solid choice. Fine, I'll think about it."
Shinki smirked. "You'd better make a decision soon. If you stall too long, I might just end up choosing someone for you again."
Tsunade muttered under her breath but didn't argue further, her mind already weighing the potential candidates. In the end, no matter how reluctant she felt, the responsibilities of Hokage wouldn't wait.
