Chapter 42: Kengen.
Tahir was on his way to meet the Fang's master when he received a call from Esha. He was surprised at how fast she could take down her own enemy. Similar calls came in from his other friends, and the same order was given to them.
Somehow, they are all going to come here. Tahir sighed as he knocked on his master's door.
"Come in, you don't have to knock before coming in again, lad. You're above that now," the master said.
"I'm used to knocking already. Anyway, I have a question," Tahir said.
"Go on," the master replied.
"What idea or rather, what is Kengen? And please, teach me Kengen," Tahir said as he bowed immediately.
Tahir could swear he heard the master's heartbeat increase when he mentioned Kengen.
"Where did you learn about Kengen?" the master asked.
"Inside the box, I found a scroll," Tahir replied.
"Can I see the scroll?" the master asked.
"I'm sorry, but no. It's a confidential scroll," Tahir answered.
"No problem. Now listen to everything I have concerning Kengen and try your best to train by yourself.
Kengen is just another—or should I say, an upgraded and more dangerous part of Qi.
Kengen's Shin (心) - Heart: The first step in Kengen mastery is to cultivate and contain Qi, learning to control the life energy within. Practitioners train to prevent the loss of Qi by keeping it circulating through their body. This is the foundation for advanced techniques.
Training Focus:
Deep meditation and breathing exercises that help center and circulate Qi internally.
Focus on calming the mind and preventing any excess Qi from escaping.
Seki (石) - Stone: In Kengen, this stage involves shutting down energy nodes to hide one's presence. Mastering Seki allows the practitioner to move undetected and reduce their Qi output to a minimum. This is critical for stealth operations, ambushes, or defense, as it makes them invisible to those sensing life energy.
Training Focus:
Practicing techniques to reduce Qi output until it becomes completely undetectable.
Focusing on refining self-control to stay concealed for extended periods.
Ryuu (流) - Flow: This stage is about learning to increase the flow of Qi in the body, directing it into attacks, defenses, or techniques. Practitioners use Ryuu to enhance their physical abilities, speed, strength, and durability. By controlling how much Qi they release, they can regulate their power in combat situations.
Training Focus:
Strengthening the body through combat exercises while enhancing Qi output.
Balancing Qi release for both offense and defense, ensuring energy isn't wasted.
Hatsu (発) - Release: Hatsu in Kengen is the personal expression of one's Qi. Each practitioner has a unique way of manifesting their energy, often tied to their inner nature or life experiences. These techniques vary widely, from elemental manipulation (such as Tahir's poison or lightning abilities) to physical enhancements or long-range attacks.
Training Focus:
Deep introspection and reflection on personal traits and goals, helping users unlock their unique Hatsu.
Intensive practice of their specific Hatsu technique, learning how to control, refine, and use it in different combat situations.
Kuu (空) - Void: This technique allows practitioners to extend their Qi into their surroundings, creating a field of heightened awareness. Within this field, they can detect movements, intentions, and energy signatures, giving them an edge in both combat and reconnaissance. Kuu enhances the user's tactical awareness by filling the space around them with life energy.
Training Focus:
Practicing Qi extension in controlled environments, starting with a small radius and slowly expanding it.
Focusing on sensing energy changes within the field while maintaining control of personal Qi reserves.
Mastering Kengen: True mastery comes from the seamless integration of techniques. A Kengen user must learn to shift between techniques and adapt to combat scenarios effortlessly.
Mastery Integration:
A true Kengen master can switch between stealth (Seki), offensive amplification (Ryuu), and spatial awareness (Kuu) while channeling their unique Hatsu technique. The challenge lies in managing energy efficiently and not exhausting Qi reserves during extended fights.
Advanced Training Focus:
Simulated combat situations where the practitioner is forced to switch between techniques quickly.
Energy management exercises to ensure efficient use of Qi during prolonged engagements.
Defensive drills where Qi control is tested under high-pressure scenarios.
Tiered Mastery in Kengen:
Novice: The practitioner can contain their Qi and remain hidden using Shin and Seki.
Intermediate: The practitioner can enhance their physical abilities through Ryuu and begin to develop their Hatsu.
Advanced: The user has full control over their unique Hatsu and can apply it in various combat scenarios.
Expert: The practitioner can extend their Qi for spatial awareness while using their Hatsu simultaneously.
Master: The Kengen master can shift between all techniques effortlessly, maximizing both offensive and defensive capabilities.
Now we would move to kengen affinities. The master said.
1. Vanguard (先鋒者) - Senpōsha
Focus: Augmenting physical attributes through life energy.
Abilities: Vanguards specialize in reinforcing their own physical bodies with life energy, enhancing strength, speed, endurance, and durability. They excel in close-quarters combat, enabling them to take and deal heavy hits. However, their abilities focus solely on augmenting their physical capabilities, not on enhancing their weapons.
Example Power: A Vanguard might punch through solid stone or leap great distances, relying purely on physical prowess enhanced by life energy
2. Conductor (導体者) - Dōtaisha
Focus: Channeling energy through objects or mediums, but not elemental creation.
Abilities: Conductors are skilled at transferring their life energy into external objects like weapons or even their environment. While they cannot control elements like fire or water, they can imbue objects with energy to enhance them or create temporary bonds between energy and matter.
Example Power: A Conductor might channel life energy into a sword, making it more powerful and precise, or use energy to temporarily fuse broken objects together, similar to an energy weld.
3. Shifter (変化者) - Henkasha
Focus: Changing the properties of life energy.
Abilities: Shifters can manipulate the properties of their life energy, changing its state to mimic basic forms such as solid, liquid, or gaseous without creating natural elements. This grants versatility in combat, allowing them to create energy-based whips, barriers, or blunt force objects.
Example Power: A Shifter might form an energy shield that shifts its density depending on the attack, or create energy tendrils to bind enemies.
4. Weaver (具現化者) - Gugensha
Focus: Manifesting energy into tangible objects.
Abilities: Weavers can use their life energy to create physical constructs like weapons, tools, or defenses. These objects are durable and serve as real-world extensions of the user's power, but they cannot be overly complex, such as firearms or mechanical devices.
Example Power: A Weaver might summon a spear made of condensed energy that functions just like a real spear or create barriers for protection.
5. Diver (特質者) - Tokushitsu-sha
Focus: Unique and unpredictable abilities.
Abilities: Divers possess rare and specialized powers that fall outside typical classifications. Their abilities tend to be highly unique, often bending rules in unusual ways, making them dangerous and unpredictable in combat.
Example Power: A Diver might briefly move through solid objects or disrupt an opponent's energy flow, causing temporary paralysis.
6. Reflector (放出者) - Hōshutsusha
Focus: Projecting and manipulating life energy externally for offense and defense.
Abilities: Reflectors can emit life energy from their bodies, using it to launch powerful blasts or form energy barriers at a distance. They excel in mid- to long-range combat, offering great versatility in both attack and defense.
Example Power: A Reflector might create an energy barrier that absorbs incoming attacks or fire concentrated energy blasts that knock back enemies.
7. Resonator (共鳴者) - Kyōmeisha
Focus: Amplifying or harmonizing with others' life energy.
Abilities: Resonators can synchronize their life energy with others, enhancing their allies' abilities or creating powerful combination attacks. They are also adept at disrupting enemy energy flows, weakening opponents or causing instability in their powers.
Example Power: A Resonator could amplify a teammate's power, giving them a temporary boost in speed or strength, or weaken an enemy's defenses by distorting their energy.
With this information I have provided, focus on the training guide. After you have mastered everything, I'll take you farther," the master ended as he stood up.
"I need to attend to something. I'll be back before dawn, and I'll be coming with friends," Tahir said before going out.
Back at Kris' estate, he had been finding a way to gauge the power of the estate guards.
That was when he decided to call his father.
"Hello, Dad, someone is already in the estate. I need you to send your guards to arrest him. They shouldn't kill him; I need him alive, and they should make sure he doesn't contact anyone before being arrested," Kris said.
"Is it a danger to our family?" Kris' dad asked.
"It might be in the future," Kris replied calmly.
"Alright, I'll send people. He will be apprehended immediately," Kris' dad said as the line went dead.
After what seemed like a few minutes, Kris heard a knock on his door, and three men whose faces weren't visible came in. From the look of things, one of them was injured.
Tossing the stalker on the ground, they left without saying a word.
"I see. From the look of things, these ones are not among the strongest my dad has. If I'm planning to overthrow him in the future, then I'll have to get stronger," Kris said as he called Tahir.
Zahra had noticed peering eyes everywhere she went, and that was when she decided to go somewhere with nobody. Of course, she called Tahir, and her orders were given. She created a mirage of herself and then completely hid herself. Her stalker was already moving close when he could feel a cold touch creeping around his entire body. The next thing he knew, he fell flat.
Zahra purposely froze his chest, slowing down his heart's pumping rate. After undoing the freeze, too much blood flowed in, knocking her target out.
"Listen, everyone. There is a teleportation device I left in each of your baggage. Check inside and scan your wrist tag. Immediately after, the teleportation device will register the coordinates and bring you here. I'll be waiting," Tahir said as he hung up.
Immediately after he gave his orders, Tahir waited a little, and he could see three different portals open. Kris, Esha, and Zahra had arrived, and the first thing they saw was the thick forest. As soon as they came through, they dragged their targets on the ground and threw them towards Tahir.
"Now this is great. You all made it in time. We will be paying Cassy a visit. My contact back at the organization told me they might kill her soon."
"Alright, let's go then," Kris said as Tahir opened another teleportation device, and they immediately moved.
