Chapter 104: Kill
"I asked what do you think about it?"
Amber emphasized the question this time. She knew Leon's decision depended on how Evelyn felt. If she was uncomfortable with the Wei Clan, then there was simply no way he would even get close to them.
He might even declare them as his enemies.
That was how much influence both of them had on each other.
Evelyn continued to look at Leon and finally answered, 'He hates the word bastard. Many bullied him with that word because he didn't have a father. They said all kinds of things, like how I forced myself on his father, or that he abandoned me. He hated every one of them, and I am sure he still hates that word.'
She revealed a sad smile and continued, 'He pretends to have forged a strong heart, but what he really has is just a strong wall that he built around it. A hard exterior hiding a soft heart. The world has been cruel to that child, and I'm also part of that world.'
"I'm sure if you say that to him, he'll erupt like a volcano," Amber said with a smile.
'Yes, he definitely will,' Evelyn chuckled. 'But it's the truth. As much as some of you, including him, like to say I'm the best mother, I'm really not. It was me who ran away from everything and gave him that terrible childhood.'
She lowered her head, ashamed to even look at him. 'And he doesn't even blame me. I told him, but he still doesn't blame me.'
"I won't do that either," Amber said, surprising her. "I don't know how your mother was, but believe me, I don't lie when I say you're the best mother."
She smiled faintly and added, "If I had the chance to have you as a mother, then I wouldn't mind going through hell. I think that's how he feels too. So why would he blame you? And in the past few days, I've understood you a little, I know it wasn't your fault."
'How can you say that? Maybe I changed?' Evelyn asked softly.
"Humans don't change that easily. As you said, Leon has a soft heart and just built a wall around it. He pretends. You're the same, you just keep blaming yourself because you witnessed his suffering. You're kind and gentle, so you don't want to blame others," Amber said.
She took a deep breath and added, "Although I like that about you, it's still dangerous for both you and Leon. He doesn't blame you, so you shouldn't blame yourself either."
Evelyn stayed silent for a while. Then she raised her head to look at Leon and said, 'I just want him to have a father figure in his life. A whole family. I don't want him to be called by that name. And most of all… he deserves to know his child.'
'I see. The guilt is piling up from both sides,' Amber sighed and said, "I'll make sure they can't harm him, but I also won't stop them. It'll be his decision what he wants to do. But what about the Walker House?"
As Amber had been paying close attention, she noticed the sheer change in Evelyn's eyes as she made hand signs that shocked her.
'Kill them. Anyone from that house who tries to even know his information… kill them.'
"I'm not gonna lie, I didn't expect that reaction," Amber said. "You really hate your own family."
'I don't hate them. I'm just disappointed in them,' Evelyn shook her head. 'They are my family, so I know them best. That's why I want Leon to stay away from them. Even if it sounds selfish, I don't want it. That family is insufferable.'
"Then it's all just public image?" Amber asked curiously.
'Not all, but that public image does hide their true personality well,' Evelyn turned toward Amber and placed her hand over hers. 'Please protect him from that family.'
"That goes without saying. He's my student," Amber grinned. "I'll turn their whole house into ashes if they dare to even look at him. I never liked them anyway."
'I am glad he has you on his side,' Evelyn said truthfully.
"I'm also on your side. You suffer by yourself too much, so I'll accompany you more now," Amber said, patting her hand.
'As if you are any better,' Evelyn rolled her eyes. 'I can see sadness in your eyes too.'
"I never hide it," Amber replied firmly. "Neither am I running from it. It's a part of me, and I've learned to live with it. So please don't include me among the likes of you."
Evelyn lightly hit her arm and then looked away.
"You really are cute," Amber chuckled. "Also, that doesn't even tickle."
"What are the two beautiful ladies talking about?" Leon asked as he returned, sensing the atmosphere was weird. He definitely hadn't left it like this, so what happened in such a short time?
"Something you'll never understand," Amber said. "Now go and sleep. We will leave early tomorrow morning."
Leon shrugged and left the room. Soon, he heard a knock on the door, and Amber slid it open before he could even stand up from his bed.
He looked at her with annoyance and said, "You have to wait after knocking. It means request to enter, not that you're telling them you're going to barge in."
"For me it's the second," Amber said before sitting on a chair. "You wanted to talk about something?"
"How do you know?"
"Just a hunch."
"Well yeah, I wanted to talk about something," Leon nodded. "What if I somehow miss the Academy tomorrow?"
"I'll punish you," Amber replied straightforwardly.
"I'm going to try that theory today. I'm pretty sure it'll work, but there's a chance it won't, so…" Leon didn't finish his words, but he knew she would understand.
"Still punishment," Amber said flatly. "I don't care about your circumstances. I need you in my class. Otherwise, deal with the punishment."
Leon's lips twitched. "I'll take a leave. I have accumulated quite a lot of them."
"Doesn't work here."
Leon massaged his forehead and said, "Then I'll just take the punishment. Anyway, I'm going to try it. Let's see if it works."
"Sure."
