My SSS-Rank Dungeon: Reborn In A Reverse World

Chapter 103: The Void

By the time both Amber and Leon reached home, Evelyn had already heated up the food and even made a few more dishes.

Leon could only shake his head at her eagerness to feed others. But he also knew it was because he would be leaving tomorrow.

In a way, this was his last dinner for a while, so Evelyn wanted to make everything perfect.

The dinner was lively as usual, but Leon didn't like the sadness flashing in Evelyn's eyes. She tried to suppress it, but how could he miss it?

He thought for a moment and then asked Amber, who was sitting opposite him at the dining table, "I wanted to ask you something for a while."

"What is it?" Amber asked, not even bothering to look up from the food.

"You can do teleportation, right?" Leon asked. "Like that old lady in the government office did?"

Amber nodded and said, "I can do it. Why?"

"I was thinking if you could bring me along once in a while," Leon said, knowing he couldn't expect it daily.

However, Amber just shook her head without even considering his request. "It's impossible. You cannot handle the Void."

"Void as in Space?" Leon wondered.

"Yes. Everything in this world is Corrupted due to its connection with the Primordial Expanse," Amber explained as she dug into a meatball. "The Void is the first layer, so it holds a lot of corruption."

"We are also kind of living in the Void though," Leon said, a little confused by her explanation.

"Good point. But the thing is, the world itself suppresses the corruption for its own safety," Amber said. "So you don't feel it normally. How do you think people usually get chosen by the Primordial Expanse? It's because those people live in places where the Void has higher concentrations of Corruption."

"Ah! The amount is negligible normally, so we don't feel it. But it's different during teleportation," Leon caught on and muttered.

"Yes. Teleportation includes either folding the Void, which increases the concentration of Corruption, or cutting it, which still means messing with the Void. Either way, corruption oozes out," Amber nodded.

"That's why we don't have teleportation Rune Formations," Leon whispered, finally understanding a few things he had left vague in the game.

This was exactly the reason he was so curious about this world. It wasn't like he could put everything into the game, so there had always been holes in the plot and even in the world.

Now that the world had turned into reality, Leon was very curious about those holes. Just like this one about teleportation. In the game, he had only written that teleportation was impossible for lower Tier Awakened.

Why?

There had been no explanation.

But now he had one, and it made so much sense. It was as if Leon had created a puzzle and left many pieces behind, but now the world itself was creating those pieces to complete the puzzle.

Now it was up to Leon to find those pieces, see the complete picture, and decide whether it was beautiful or…

"More like we have those, but we never use them here on Earth," Amber added. "In the Primordial Expanse, there are a few safe ones. The Ancient Races built them somehow, and we still can't decipher the Runes they used."

"Understandable!" Leon nodded and turned toward Evelyn, who was listening to this intellectual conversation with a smile. "So, Miss Old Lady, stop sulking now. Even though I can't visit you often, she'll come here daily to eat."

'Really?' Evelyn was surprised to hear that.

"If you don't mind me freeloading, then yes," Amber said, her tone turning unusually polite for her.

'I won't mind at all. In fact, I'd appreciate the company,' Evelyn waved her hand and said.

"Yes, don't worry about it. She begins crying if nobody notices her, so it's better you accompany her," Leon said, which earned him a smack on the head with a spatula.

Evelyn ignored him and said to Amber, 'And it's not freeloading at all. You're helping Leo so much. I can't even repay this.'

"I think you're underestimating your food," Amber shook her head. "This one portion alone is enough for me to teach him for seven lives."

Evelyn got a little embarrassed at the praise and said with a silly smile, 'Thank you. It feels good when someone praises my food.'

They continued to chat casually while eating. Their topics were random and they weren't even paying much attention. They just wanted to talk and that's exactly what they did.

Leon was the first to finish, so he went forward to clean his dishes.

Left alone with Evelyn, Amber said, "Evelyn Walker… I don't want to pry too much into your past, but I still want to ask. Do you want to have anything to do with the Wei Clan?"

Evelyn frowned at the sudden question, though she wasn't surprised Amber knew the identity of Leon's father.

'What do you mean?' she asked.

"Well, I'm sure Leon has told you about what happened last time," Amber said, and Evelyn nodded. "It wouldn't have been a problem if it was anyone else, but I'm sure that old hag recognized him or at least knows he's her family member."

Evelyn had a smile on her face hearing that, which didn't escape Amber's sharp eyes, though she didn't comment on it.

"They're trying to get close to him," Amber said. "So, what do you want with this development?"

Evelyn stared at Leon's back in the kitchen and smiled. 'I knew it would happen if they ever met. As for what I want, it doesn't matter. I have never tried to insert myself in his life's choices, and I still won't. If he likes them, then he can get close to them. And if he doesn't, then that's also fine.'

'Both are really the same,' Amber sighed at this strange pair of mother and son.

They both were so same that anyone could identify them as mother and son.
