Chapter 101: Back-up
Leon and the others wanted to tease them more, but the constable noticed their actions and clicked a button which turned their glass walls opaque.
There was a camera installed inside, and the security was very high, so no one was worried about them. They also had suppression chains on their hands, which meant they couldn't even get out by force.
"It's better than the last one," Rani said, looking around at the blurred glass walls.
"How?" Denver asked, resting his back against the wall.
"We got an upgrade from iron bars to glass walls with fancy technology," Bella laughed and said. "Last time, even the food was shit there."
"What did you even do?" Leon asked in curiosity.
"Uhh, we beat up the daughter of someone from the police," Bella said with a cheeky smile. "She was going to beat us with her friends and then blame everything on us. Since we were going to prison anyway, we beat her up properly."
"I broke her hand," Rani said, smiling faintly at the reminder.
"You two had an interesting childhood," Natasha said, laughing at their story.
"It had some good moments," Bella said before turning toward Natasha. "You come from some noble family, right? How was your childhood?"
Natasha's smile almost dropped, but she remained calm and said, "I'm sure you've heard that saying, 'One's trash is another's treasure.' Humans are always jealous of what others have. You can say the same for me. I know your childhood wasn't good, but I still yearn for it. I feel it's better than what I had."
She noticed the turn in atmosphere and quickly changed the subject, "Rather, we should be worried about our situation. We have Academy tomorrow, so we planned to take an early train. Can we even get out of here before morning?"
As all gazes fell on him, Leon shrugged. "If the Academy wants us, then they can come and take us. It's not our fault they arrested us."
"That reminded me, you planned everything so well. How did you do it in such a short time?" Bella asked, her eyes shining in amazement.
"Knowledge is power," Leon said. "Just like you need to be good at using your own strength, the same goes for knowledge. I just used what I knew well, and it worked."
"You make it sound so easy," Natasha chuckled.
Everyone knew it wasn't that easy. Leon only had a few minutes to think about so many things, including the aftermath, and he still did it so well.
If there had been even a slight mishap, they might be sitting in a CSA prison right now, being tortured for information. It was a dangerous operation, to say the least.
"It worked because you trusted me," Leon shook his head. "You're the ones who made it easy by blindly putting your trust in me."
"What did you do though?" Denver asked.
"I basically gave a last day of hope and a little help to that woman," Leon said. "As for how, I'll tell you later. I've signed an NDA."
They weren't surprised by that. It was a big deal, so it would have been more shocking if he could just expose it so easily.
"So, did you plan what would happen after we're locked up here?" Natasha asked. "I really don't want to make Professor Amber angry on our first day."
'Oh, I didn't tell them about her yet,' Leon realized but didn't think much of it. "It's fine. It's the price you need to pay for earning a date from me."
Natasha raised an eyebrow and said with a smile, "Then, it can't be helped. But I wanted my first date to be only us."
Bella was speechless at their interaction. She looked at Rani and Denver instead, and her annoyance flared up. She slammed on the glass wall and shouted, "I'm dying here! Get me out of here!"
The blurred walls turned transparent again as the constable gave Bella a glare, then switched them back to opaque.
"What happened to you?" Rani asked in confusion.
Bella stared at her best friend and then sighed. "Sometimes I enjoy your simple brain. So much ignorance."
"Seems like she's lost her mind," Rani said and stood up. Then she gave a loud smack on Bella's head and asked, "How is it now?"
Bella glared at her while rubbing the back of her head. "If I ever become dumb, then I'm suing you."
"Then you can do it now," Rani said, earning another glare from Bella.
The others laughed at their interaction, and even Denver was chuckling softly. It might have been a wholesome atmosphere if they weren't actually in jail.
Bella groaned and ignored her best friend. She asked Leon, "You're changing the topic. What did you plan for us here?"
Just as Leon was about to answer, the whole police station shook violently, and even their cell walls showed signs of cracking.
At the sudden earthquake, everyone quickly stabilized and wondered what had happened. It was a police station, and although the officers here were weaker than what they were used to seeing, they were still part of the government.
Who would dare to fight here? Or maybe even attack the station?
All of them turned to Leon, who was still sitting comfortably, as Natasha asked, "What did you do, Little Brother?"
"I just called for backup," Leon said with a smile, though even he was wondering what the hell was happening outside.
Just then, the front glass wall of their cell shattered as everyone backed off and got ready to fight. It was their basic instinct, honed by everyone who wanted to enter the Primordial Expanse.
However, when the fragments cleared away, their eyes widened and it wouldn't be a joke to say their jaws practically dropped to the ground.
They had expected many people to be Leon's backup, but this person was not on that list.
Before them stood a woman in a loose white hoodie and a cold look in her eyes. Her wolf ears twitched above her head, responding to the signals around them.
Her mouth opened, and a chilling voice filled the whole police station as her cold gaze landed on Leon.
"You better have a good explanation for this."
