Chapter 100: Calmness
Leon coughed slightly and looked up at Zoe. He didn't really want to antagonize her because she was just doing her work properly. It was something he even admired.
But it wouldn't have worked out if he simply asked her for access to the Abyssal Creature. And if he pulled his connections, it would already be too late to save that woman.
That was why he had to choose this method.
It didn't mean he wanted to hurt these officers, though.
'That hurt!'
Zoe was at Level 29, so even a casual punch from her had rearranged his internal organs. Fortunately, he was quite used to pain like this.
"Still smiling, huh," Zoe frowned. "I'll see how long you can smile once I'm done with you."
"First of all, that's sexual verbal assault, and I can sue you for that. You can't do that even to prisoners," Leon replied calmly. "And second of all, we're not going with you."
"What tricks are you thinking of now?" Zoe asked with a deeper frown.
She felt annoyed at his unusual calmness. It was as if everything was going according to his plan, and the fact she knew nothing made her even more irritated.
"I'm pretty sure you're from the City Security Association rather than the regular police, so unless you have a strong reason, you can't arrest us. So…" He gave his annoying smile again. "On what basis are you arresting us?"
"On the basis that you attacked us for no reason, and we need to find that reason," Zoe replied, though she felt something was off.
"When did we attack you? Please don't accuse us without proof," Leon said.
Zoe was about to snap back when something in the corner of her eye caught her attention. She turned and noticed the destroyed camera on the truck's front.
Her lips curved faintly. "Do you think this can save you?" Zoe shook her head in disappointment. "The footage is live and directly gets stored in the main database. We have all the proof. I thought you'd know something so basic."
"Of course, I know that," Leon shrugged. "And that's why I'm asking again, on what basis are you arresting us?"
"Are you stupid?"
Leon smiled and said, "Nope! But you don't have any proof that we attacked you. The only thing the camera caught was a boulder accidentally falling on the road, meaning something happened here. Then an innocent girl came to ask for your help, and instead of helping her like proper state officials would, you attacked her, which forced her to fight back in self-defense."
"What are you…" Zoe stopped midway as the realization hit her. His story lined up. The footage would only have the starting part before the camera was destroyed, and in it, the situation really did look exactly as Leon described.
Even if they weren't held responsible for attacking the girl, they also had no solid basis for arresting them. After all, Leon's group hadn't technically attacked first.
"Wait! What about the shot that shut down the small engine?" Zoe quickly caught onto that and asked.
"Did the camera capture that?" Leon asked calmly before turning toward Bella. "Can your bullet be caught on camera?"
"It was a precious bullet made for true stealth. It can't be detected by cameras at all, and there are no remnants left," Bella explained, still staring at Leon in astonishment.
She couldn't believe he had thought so much in such a short time and executed it so flawlessly. The same shock was written on the others' faces too.
Zoe gritted her teeth and said, "I still don't understand what you planned so meticulously for. You have a good mind, I'll give you that. But why are you doing this?"
"As I said, it's a secret," Leon replied. "But I can assure you that nobody has been harmed in this, and I didn't steal anything. Well, not like there was anything to steal. But you get the sentiment."
"Really?" Zoe still didn't believe him, but everything in front of her eyes matched his words. Nothing had actually been damaged.
"Yup. I never meant to harm you or anyone here. That was never the plan," Leon said with sincerity.
Zoe stared at him for a long while before finally saying, "We can't take you all with us, but that doesn't mean I'm letting you off. You're still going to prison. In the meantime, I'll find out what you were aiming for at any cost."
She leaned forward and added coldly, "We'll meet again in the morning."
"I think the opposite, but whatever makes you happy," Leon smiled and said. "Goodbye, Officer Zoe."
Zoe clicked her tongue and said to the police officers, "Take them back and be careful. They might have more tricks up their sleeves. Actually, one of us will accompany you."
Then, Leon and his group were stuffed inside another mini-car and soon escorted to the City Police Station under tight guard. Nobody spoke, since none of them wanted to talk in their presence.
The City Police Station wasn't far away, and they soon reached it. Once the guards filled in the details and mentioned that the CSA was handling the case, they were put in a temporary holding cell.
Once they were inside the glass panels that caged them, all of them relaxed and made themselves comfortable on the cold ground.
Bella was about to speak when she noticed something and turned around. A strange look appeared on her face as she said, "The world is really small."
All of them turned to see what Bella was looking at, and their expressions instantly mirrored hers.
Right beside their cell was another cell, and surprisingly, the prisoners there were the four women who had tried to assault them back in the Red Lotus Club.
Their leader was mouthing something while glaring at them, as if she wanted to kill them with her eyes alone.
Natasha had a mischievous grin as she faced them and deliberately crossed her arms under her chest, making her boobs seem even bigger. She even gave them a playful shake.
"You're evil!" Bella burst out laughing, watching the leader fume with rage at Natasha's provocation. "But I love that!"
