Chapter 69: Awakened Council
His eyes flickered under the light; he opened them, finally coming awake. The first thing he saw was the white ceiling that hung above him.
"Arghhh," Silva groaned. He turned his head to look around and realized that he was inside some sort of high-tech hospital.
He sat up; he was still in his normal clothes, which meant it hadn't been long since he came here.
"I can't believe I waited until the evolution happened," he muttered.
He got up from the bed and walked his way to the toilet in the room. He stood in front of the mirror, looking right at himself, but he could barely recognize his own face.
His eyes were more purple now and looked demonic; his skin was slightly more pale, his jaws sharper, and he had a far more intense glare in his eyes.
"My changes are becoming more obvious by the second," he muttered.
He was about to turn on the system to see what changes had happened, but the door of the room opened. He used his senses immediately and looked at who it was.
"Lily, what's she doing here?" he thought.
"Where are you, Silva?" she called out.
"In the bathroom," he replied. He walked out of the bathroom to meet her.
"Seems your fainting was actually nothing serious, like the doctor said."
She walked to the bed and sat down. "Elena was worried sick about you. She thought maybe you pushed yourself too much to fight there."
"No, that wasn't it at all," Silva said.
"So what was it?" Elena walked into the room.
"Wait, how did you, I didn't sense you," Silva said.
"There are techniques that exist to counter even sensory types like you," Elena said.
"She's lying. You can't sense anything outside the room; this is a top-grade awakened health center run by the Awakened Guild, that's why," Lily said.
Elena shot her a glare. "Either way, you said it wasn't because you pushed yourself too much, then what was it?" Elena asked.
Silva looked at her. He knew that he was going to have this talk. He could say it was exhaustion, but he was sure they already ran a full analysis on his body and were sure that he wasn't exhausted.
And beyond that, she had seen him heal, so why wasn't he able to recover from exhaustion?
Silva was in a pickle here. He took a deep breath. "I can't tell," he said in a calm voice. Elena frowned when she heard that; she walked close to him.
"There is a lot that is suspicious about you, Silva Tallon, and with every day that goes by, you get even more suspicious," she said. She looked him right in the eye; she clenched her fist.
"I know I can't ask you to trust me when there is a lot you don't know about me and I refuse to tell you. But like me, there are things that you will never tell me, and that's because there is a very good reason," Silva said.
She looked at him with an even more fierce glare. "The fact that I tend to believe whatever comes out of your mouth is the issue.
It's like I can't see you lying for some reason. I'll allow it be for now just because of that. But if you should ever betray me or humanity, I'll be the one to hunt you down," she said, and she meant every word.
"Arghhh, that's enough already; can we get going?" Lily asked.
"Get going? Where?" he asked.
"Oh, we haven't told you. Well, you see, we are going to meet the Awakened Council," Lily said.
"The Awakened Council? What is that?"
"You haven't heard of it before because lower ranks have no reason to know about it. The job of the Awakened Council is very delicate and very important.
They are an organization separate from all the guilds and the structure of the world, made of those called Chosen," Lily said. She swung her feet on the bed as she spoke.
"And the Chosen are?"
Elena walked to the door. "The Chosen are the purest of the pure; they are awakened that were selected by Gia.
Gia was an awakened, among the first awakened that existed on earth when it all began, but rather than an ability that was normal,
she awakened an ability that was connected to the very essence of earth and the gates. She is seen as the pillar that holds humanity; without her and her connection to the gates, the earth would be destroyed," Elena explained.
"It's also rumored that she is the one that enabled all humans to gain abilities currently," Lily added.
"That aspect is still rumor," Elena said.
"Yeah, yeah. So the Chosen are basically Gia's aid; they take care of things behind the scene and keep the work safe.
You might have heard of some of them as not all awakened, but beyond that, they are chosen," Lily added.
'These are all new concepts; I never knew there was this much layer to the entire awakened structure up until now.
I guess the stronger you get, the more you know,' Silva thought.
"So are we going to see Gia?" Silva asked.
"Hell no; there is no way they'd allow you to see Gia. We are going to meet representatives of the council," Lily said. She got up and interlocked her hand with Silva.
"So let's go," she said.
"Wait, why do they want to see us and why do I need to be there?" he asked.
"Well, because you got the information, and you were there during the attack. Also they wanted to ask you about the gate that you almost died at," Elena said.
"This situation keeps escalating. Let me call my sister first," he said.
"No time for that; they are waiting outside," Elena said and opened the door, walking out.
Lily pulled him out of the room. Standing in the corridor were two figures, each dressed in a white suit with golden accents: a man and a woman.
