Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Oba, the Greedy King, and the System's Secrets

Chapter 7: Oba, the Greedy King, and the System's Secrets

Kayode's new companion, the sleek black creature that had hatched from the golden dragon egg, lounged on his shoulder, exuding a strange aura of arrogance. Its fur shimmered faintly with a golden hue, and its golden eyes, sharp and calculating, gave it an air of royalty.

For the first few hours, the cat did nothing but yawn, stretch, and lightly paw at Kayode's hair, as though inspecting its new perch.

"Can you at least pretend to be useful?" Kayode muttered, brushing the cat's tail off his face.

The cat raised its head lazily and stared at him, unimpressed. "Useful? I am Oba, king of all beasts. Do you think a king lifts a finger unnecessarily?"

Kayode blinked. "Oba? That's your name? Y.. You named youself."

"Of course," the cat said, puffing out its chest proudly. "A name worthy of my status. You should feel honored to even speak it."

Kayode groaned. "A lazy king. Just what I needed."

Oba yawned, his sharp fangs glinting in the light. "Lazy? Let's call it strategic conservation of energy. Now, what's in that bag of yours? I'm hungry."

Kayode raised an eyebrow. "You're hungry already?"

"I just hatched. Do you know how much energy that took?" Oba retorted, his golden eyes gleaming as they scanned Kayode's storage bag. Before Kayode could respond, the cat leapt down and began pawing through his belongings, pulling out a large spirit fruit, as if the confined space in the storage bag couldn't be hidden from him.

"This will do," Oba said, biting into the fruit with gusto.

Kayode sighed. "That was supposed to last me the week."

Oba flicked his tail dismissively. "You're resourceful. You'll figure out how to get mor. Besides, feeding me is an investment in greatness."

As Oba devoured the fruit, Kayode's system chimed in, its voice warm and familiar, yet distinctly Nigerian in tone.

System Alert:

The African-Minded System: Enhancing Nigerian Lineage in the Cultivation World.

New Ability Unlocked:

Greedy Insight (Oba): Can sense hidden treasures, rare resources, and powerful entities—including… the System.

---

Kayode frowned, reading the update. "Wait a minute… Oba can sense you?"

Oba licked his paw elegantly, his golden eyes twinkling with amusement. "Of course. Your so-called African-Minded System isn't as sneaky as it thinks."

The system's voice piped up indignantly. "Ehn? Oba, watch your mouth. I am the pinnacle of ingenuity, here to elevate Kayode and, by extension, Nigeria, to the peak of this cultivation world."

Oba smirked. "You mean you're here to micromanage and hold back his potential until it suits your agenda."

Kayode froze. "Hold back? System, what is Oba talking about?"

The system hesitated. "Ah-ah, Kayode, don't mind this small cat. I only hold back for your own good. Too much power too quickly can overwhelm you. I am simply pacing your growth, like a good oga."

Oba chuckled, a low, rumbling sound. "Translation: It's playing you, little human. Do you think it hasn't hidden treasures or abilities from you? Systems like this are always controlling."

Kayode glared into the air. "System, explain yourself. Now."

"Kayode," the system replied in a soothing tone, "I am here to make you the pride of Nigeria, but greatness is a journey. You can't expect to harvest the corn without planting the seed first. Trust the process!"

Kayode pinched the bridge of his nose. "I feel like I'm stuck between two schemers."

Oba stretched luxuriously. "Better get used to it. Speaking of which…" His ears twitched, and he stood suddenly, his golden eyes narrowing. "There's something nearby. Something strong."

Kayode tensed. "What kind of something?"

Oba hopped gracefully onto his shoulder, his tail flicking. "A powerful spirit beast. It's guarding something valuable."

The system chimed in eagerly. "Ah, wonderful! Kayode, this is an opportunity for growth! You can test your new Bloodline Devourer ability."

Kayode groaned. "Why do I feel like this is going to end badly?"

Oba purred, his voice dripping with mischief. "Don't worry, little human. I'll guide you… for a price."

Kayode narrowed his eyes. "A price?"

Oba smirked. "Half of whatever treasure we find."

"Half?!"

"Take it or leave it," Oba said, grooming his paw as though the outcome didn't concern him.

Kayode sighed. "Fine. But you'd better earn it."

Oba leapt from Kayode's shoulder and padded ahead, his movements graceful and effortless. "Follow me. The treasure calls to action."

As Kayode followed his self-proclaimed king deeper into the forest, the system hummed thoughtfully.

"You see, Kayode, this partnership with Oba will bring you closer to destiny. Nigerian bloodlines will thrive in this cultivation world, and you will lead the charge."

Kayode muttered under his breath. "A shameless system, a greedy cat, and a treasure hunt. What could possibly go wrong?"

Oba glanced back, his golden eyes glinting. "Plenty. But with me here, it'll at least be entertaining."

Kayode shook his head. His life was growing more chaotic by the day, and he had a feeling this was only the beginning.
